Blah- you are not the only one who can't stand oud, I loathe it, it makes me recoil and if I happen to try something by accident that contains it, I run to scrub immediately. It smells like nappies to me, or rotting veg, which I believe it is.

Mrs- I have never properly tried Sexiest Scent- the lovely Blue (where is she?) sent me a sample, but it had smashed in the post.

I have had a shower, but put PP Samsara back on because it's lush.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 26/09/2018 19:06

i haven't knowingly tried anything with oud in it, the sound of it doesn't appeal too much to me but you never know i might like it.

NO sotd haven't been feeling well and had bad news last night so just not with it at all

MrsLucas · 26/09/2018 19:13

[flowers for Onenight].

Also hoping all is well with Blue. Sending love and best wishes if you are out there.

That sounds amazing Branleuse.

I guess there is oud and oud. Take Heeley's Agarwood; gentle and lovely. 4160Ts do good ouds for sensitive souls too.

Quite different from those honking great animalic oud notes that can make your eyes water (try sitting in a car with my DD just after she's sprayed Shock). Not sure if this is to do with age/location of tree it's been extracted from, natural Vs synthetic sources, or just lightness of hand?

Marking place. SotD Fleur de Sel for interviewing.

Yesterday was PG16.1 Bois Naufragé which was heavenly. Green and coconutty (no coconut in it, I suspect it's something else that I don't recognise that gives it the same impression - possibly the carob?) and so so sniffable. Really loved it, adding it to the Bloom wishlist.

I love Bois Nafrage, count. It's really figgy on me, figgy/salty/green. Yum. Delish.

I dunno mrsr8 - I'm a midsummer baby but generally gravitate towards the cosy, incensey, smoky and even gourmand. I don't have much time for light, summery fragrances (though I do enjoy the aformentioned figgy/beachy types when the mood takes me). Can't really do citruses, for example, they bore the pants off me.

Basically if I can smell like old books, old churches, a fireplace or a cup of spicy vanilla chai I'm happy Grin

Puppylucky · 26/09/2018 20:34

Ooh interesting seasonal theory!
Me July - love tuberose and lush white floral that smell of tropical nights plus sweet gourmands
Dislike austere chypre notes that remind me of cold winter mornings

winter baby here and i generally opt for heavier stuff, orientials, white florals and gourmands. I have some lighter stuff but i do prefer heavier scents, i just find them so much more fulfilling and just enjoy them more

I was born in February and love blossom and green scents. So I guess I conform to your theory. But I do also love autumnal spicy woody or the aromatic greens of Autumn as well.
unecessary fennel you would enjoy Rook perfumes Thurible - church incense and old books.

CountFosco · 26/09/2018 22:01

Winter baby. Love green perfumes and chypres.

Judydreamsofhorses · 26/09/2018 22:20

SOTD MG Plum - so I am fitting right in with the new thread.

February birthday here, and actually just a bit of a slut. Thinking of stuff I own, I do all year round in Chanel 19, which I suppose would be my “signature scent” if I had to choose only one. autumn/winter to me is MH LDR, Heeley Cardinal, Mitsouko, MMM Fireplace, Tauer Lonestar Memories. Summer is Heeley Sel Marin, 4160 WIDOMH, MMM Untitled. Spring is FM Lipstick Rose, and (I know this sounds wrong) FM Hiver. Then there are other things I reach for all year round, like Byredo Gypsy Water, Kiehl’s Musk, roses like Heeley Hippie Rose, and JHAG Mad Madame, Rive Gauche, and my new love, MMM Sunday morning. I tend to have fewer summer scents, because we tend not to have much proper summer here!,

I am a slut like Judy- and indeed, if one fragrance were to go to my desert island it would be Chanel 19. It was the one bottle (see how good I was!) that I took on holiday this summer.

I think the theory needs tweaking- but it's probably not totally wrong! I reckon the decade we were born has an effect as well. Which is why I, (1960s born) am firmly planted in the "give me the aldehydes" field. An awful lot of "new" modern fragrances are just too sweet for me. No matter how carefully crafted. This is, I think, why I don't get on with 4160, JHAG, Frederic Malle etc. I just know they're all going to hit that sugary/fruity overload (for me) sooner or later. If it's a fruit, I want sour crisp lime. And oddly, about 25 yrs ago, when I started off teaching, I completed the "Proust" questionnaire from the Guardian- still do it every year with my kids, and put my favourite smell down as vanilla. Now I just think, unless it's a barely there vanilla, "euwww, I don't want to smell like a cheap candle from the pound shop anymore!"

Autumn-Winter I reach for Opium, Shalimar, L'Heure Bleu, LADDM, Lonestar Memories
Summer- Eau d'Hadrien, Eau du Sud, Jade, Liz Earle 1, Ealing Green

All year round- Chanel 19, Miss Dior, Rive Gauche, Infusions d'Iris Dioressence, Diorella, Vent Vert. London 1969.
