Had enough of seeing something repeated ad nauseam?

Want to offload when having tried to find good quality, stylish clothes you are instead met with a sea of shit? Epically garish, cheaply manufactured (without the corresponding price tag) and downright tired apply here.

I may be alone in having this need, but may I start by offering..... the rainbow jumper. How to take a perfectly useable piece of cloth and curse it to landfill in nanoseconds.....

Quite like a queen mother shoe

Ohyesiam · 15/09/2018 10:29

Brand names or logos printed on clothes. I don't want to be a walking advert for anyone, thank you. If you want me to wear your branded goods, YOU need to pay ME. You pay for advertising, not the other way about.
Couldn’t agree more. I be tried telling this to 14 year old dd, she’s in love with the vile Nike tick of conformity. Am I normal enough? Yes! Nike tick the box ✅
Bleurgh

Clionba · 15/09/2018 10:46

Golden Goose trainers are the mystery of our times. However, all the bloggers seem to have them. Oh, and those leopardskin Hill and Friends bags as well.

Ohyesiam · 15/09/2018 10:47

Cold shoulder tops seem to exist only in nasty fabrics. BUT my shoulders are one of the only parts of me that has survived from age 16 to my present 53 without changing.
I’ve also looked best by showing a lot of smooth brown skin( don’t have a great silhouette but have great skin) which I no longer want to do at my age, so the cold shoulders could be useful here.

That is all academic though, I don’t actually own any. I’m not terribly motivated to show myself ina good light.

loubluee · 15/09/2018 10:58

I’ve found my people!

My list:-

  • cold shoulder tops
  • 3/4 trousers especially wide legs, they make people look out of proportion
  • tops that look nice from the front then you turn them around and there’s hardly no back
  • I’m a 34H, so I need things I can wear my over the shoulder boulder holders in, so many tops don’t allow this
  • things with pockets on the breast, my boobs are big enough with a pocket standing out at a weird angle
  • all in ones, makes my boobs look huge, my waist tiny then my waist massive
  • sliders with socks
  • fluffy sliders that look like slippers
  • anything with ruffles
  • anything that looks ‘tailoured’ around the bust area, it’s only ever large enough to fit my nipples
  • thin heels, where each step you have to balance at the right point or you fall over
  • anything with unicorns and mermaids on (although I am partial to a sloth on my pj’s, but that’s a normal t-shirt I wear for bed)
  • all the Disney crap nightwear, I’m an adult, I may act like a child, but in bed wearing beauty and the beast and Cinderella is all wrong
  • I am partial to a slogan t-shirt with skinnies for day to day wear I admit, but it has to be a decent slogan, I’m not a ‘gin before tea’ kind of girl
  • decent feeling fabrics, where have they gone?
  • high waisted trousers and skirts, when you have big boobs, they meet, it’s all wrong

I hate having big boobs.....

PersisFord · 15/09/2018 11:03

In the great fireball of justified rage which is this thread, has anyone complained about the fact that there are no nice shoes for me to wear for work?

I do not want white soles - I do not work in a squash court
I am not a professional mother-of-the-bride so I don’t want horrible pumps with sensible block heels
I do not feel the need to announce my inidividuality through the medium of shoes, so no “quirky” ones
I am not a ballerina
I do not work in a swimming pool where sliders would be sensible
I walk quite a lot so shuffling along in backless mules is out
The list goes on.....

Offering from Zara...

Oh bloody hell. That wins the thread so far.

MaisyPops · 15/09/2018 11:33

Eeew!!!
I used to love Zara. Their basic knits and dresses were good on narrow build people. I haven't shopped there in almost 2 years as everything seems to be oversized and poorly fitted with every latest trend on them. I see a nice jumper only to realise it has massive sleeves, or a hole in the back, or glitter or embellishments, or bloody elastic at the bottom!

thenightsky · 15/09/2018 12:12

Zara are shit, despite me loving them unconditionally. I realised recently that all the Zara stuff I own and love is actually around 6 to 10 years old. I haven't actually found anything in there for the last 6 years! The love has died Sad

PenelopeShitStop · 15/09/2018 12:19

Those dreadful Irregular Choice shoes WTAF? Surely it goes without saying that one should never, ever take style inspiration from the Wizard of Oz?

Clionba · 15/09/2018 12:21

Dear god in heaven, that jumper - no, the whole outfit is beyond hideous. Awful trousers, awful shoes, hideous jumper, ghastly combination.

Oldraver · 15/09/2018 12:40

MaisyPops My OH spotted someone at school that was wearing a Ramones t-shirt. He remarked they were the loudest band he had seen and was nearly deaf for a number of days.

The person look perplexed and OH had to explain The Ramones were a band

MaisyPops · 15/09/2018 12:46

Grin
One of my very musically aware friends (when he's in an amusingly, mischievous mood) has form for starting conversations with people wearing band tees just to see if they have a clue about the band they are wearing.

The best was someone wearing a niche prog rock band who my friend liked. He reported back thay it took all of 30 seconds to realise this Muppet had barely heard 3 tracks but was clearly going for the 'I'm so unique and this is a band none of you will have heard of' look. Grin

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 15/09/2018 12:51

I still like Zara and buy quite a bit there. You do have to pick through all the absolute nonsense and tat though

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 15/09/2018 13:03

I don't mind some slogan tops, but anything with a 'witty' prosecco or gin reference really irriates me.

MaisyPops · 15/09/2018 13:14

Yes!!
I went looking for new gym clothes and there were loads saying "GYM?! ... I thought you said Gin!"
Fuck off with your stupid slogans.

EdinaMonsoon · 15/09/2018 13:21

That Zara jumper has to be a joke.

Sock boots are truly hideous & yet make frequent appearances all over instagram on the mum-bloggers.

I like midi & maxi dresses, sunray pleat skirts (more flattering than box pleats or gathered waists) both dressed up or dressed down but then this has been my style for years. What destroys this look is the profusion of polyester versions (usually from M&S), badly made, badly cut and seen on every other woman. Ditto the star trend. When it's everywhere then it becomes instantly naff IMO. The phrase "Fashion says Me Too; Style says Me Only" is my mantra.

Ellapaella · 15/09/2018 13:50

What are sock boots?

thenightsky · 15/09/2018 13:55

I had to google sock boots. They appear to be a boot bit around your foot, which sort of morphs into a sock as it makes its way up your leg. I think we had something similar in the 70s.

EdinaMonsoon · 15/09/2018 15:39

Examples of sock boots 🤮

CocteauTwin · 15/09/2018 16:50

Fashion bloggers/blaggers raving about the latest thing are my pet hate. They get sent freebies and/or are paid to wear nearly everything they feature in their posts. Hence those horrendous Golden Goose trainers being all over Instagram - no blogger actually paid for them.

They also use awful hashtags like #mummyuniform - who wants to wear a uniform if you don't have to?

Please send these idiots to Room 101 together with all the awful stuff they pretend to like.
