The sunshine might be fading from our passion fruit punch but we're looking forward to what autumn will bring.

ToElle I’m afraid my vote is for the Atlein! The draping far outshines the rest and I didn’t see the cons you mentioned. Maybe the Issa as the runner-up.

ToElleWithIt · 10/09/2018 10:04

Thanks for all the feedback. Appreciate that the Atlien is coming out of top, but in person I don’t absolutely love it and for that price I want to. I can’t justify spending that on a one-wear-wonder and I know in my heart of hearts that I wouldn’t reach for it over other things I own after the wedding so I think regrettably it’s going back. It’s also kinda the wrong shade with the other bridesmaids wearing greens similar to the other dresses I posted. Seems like dress 4 is probably the best of the bunch and I might get some nice sandals to make it a bit more glam and less work. My sister’s dress (who is a bridesmaid) has short sleeves so hopefully it won’t be too jarring. I’ll run it past the bride (my other sister) of course. Peony The wedding is in the afternoon and a civil ceremony in a naice pub.

The satin slip is from Annie Bind botemp, not a brand I’m familiar with, any insight?

I’m now convinced the Sunday times Style mag team are lurking on our thread. This week featured the phrase “arms like an orangutan” in the context of blazers, a nod to “hot new Korean brand Rokh”, the Lorna bag and a feature on cream boots. Okay well maybe that’s a touch tin foil hat territory and the overlap is entirely due to trends and coincidence, but it amused me nonetheless.

Some ton sur ton looks popping up on NAP.

I hope we helped, Elle, the Atlien was beautiful, but going back to the original photo of it, it looks as if it's supposed to be quite loose around the arms. If you don't love it and it's not quite the right shade, fair enough.

Gorgeous pics, I love tonal dressing, it's such an easy way to wear colour and looks very chic (I think, anyway). I haven't looked at this week's Style magazine yet. They definitely had a Sezane article a few weeks ago, as well as a red lipstick article at the beginning of the summer, it would be very funny if they were lurking Grin.

botemp · 10/09/2018 10:27

Well if the Sunday Times style section is lurking may I suggest they start paying me as at least I'd get the facts straight, Rokh isn't a Korean brand, they're London based and the designer is of Korean descent but only grew up there briefly.

We had similar tin foil hat suspicions on the Skincare threads. I do sometimes wonder how monitored MN threads are. I suppose we'll know for sure if they start abusing my similes and have a foreskin boots spread. Gah that sounds all sorts of wrong. I'm going to guess we'll be hearing about biscuit colours and the Ruh brand instead.

Elle, did you mean Anine Bing by any chance?

NAP also had a whole winter white and camel feature in their Edit section this weekend. Pretty sure that was coincidence as that must have been shot weeks ago.

@ToElleWithIt

I saw this mentioned in another thread and thought of you. Its unfortunately a viscose poly mix, but it is a nice length and lovely colour.

www.coast-stores.com/p/savannah-soft-midi-dress/2009843

I agree the Atlein is lovely, bit needs to be wow at that price. The Issa dress is my favourite alternative out of the dresses you have already.

@botemp, damn, I thought I had a reason to splurge on the Jensen's. Ah well, I think I'll order the trousers and see about footware from there. I think it will need a try on session to get the feel for what looks best.

I'm thinking of getting a few heat tech layers from Uniqlo ahead of NYC as I'd like to be warm but not bulky. What size would be recommended for a UK 12?

CatherineMaitland · 10/09/2018 12:40

I'm mainly a UK 12 and fit in Medium for Uniqlo on the top half. But might be worth getting some different sizes just to see, if you have an Hermes drop off point nearby returns are easy and Uniqlo are very quick to acknowledge and refund.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 10/09/2018 17:14

Just delurking to say solidarity to Elle, I think you made the right choice. I think this dress looks better in the second picture you posted and in my opinion suits you best.

FallingForRosie · 10/09/2018 17:40

Lovely, thanks @CatherineMaitland

quirkychick · 11/09/2018 06:41

FallingForRosie I'm a 10/12 and would second getting a size medium in heattech, they're quite thin and stretchy and have fit when I've been more of a size 12 as well. Mine have lasted for years too, I would also recommend the high waist leggings in heattech (if they still do them) to go under trousers in the very cold, especially if you are doing lots of walking.

CatherineMaitland · 11/09/2018 08:48

For whoever was thinking about burgundy knee boots earlier in the thread, I saw these in M&S the other day and they actually looked pretty good, synthetic or not - www.marksandspencer.com/block-heel-knee-boots/p/p60190275?image=SD_01_T02_8788_Y0_X_EC_90&color=BURGUNDY&prevPage=plp&intid=plpnav_swatch

quirkychick · 11/09/2018 09:52

CatherineMaitland I don't need ideas like burgundy knee boots put in my head (I wear lots of berry colours...).

Going for the tone on tone look with shades of blue today: dark indigo tulip denim skirt, soft, blue leggings (worn as tights, I haven't got my tights out yet), navy ankle boots, baby blue jersey jacket, silver bag and grey baker boy cap, as my hair was still damp and it was cold. It needs to be practical, school run and household chores, and layered enough for cold morning, warmer later and possibly rain.

ToElleWithIt · 11/09/2018 16:17

Thanks everyone for the kind thought. I'll try to get to a Coast before the weekend, but if not it'll probably be the Issa.

botemp yes Anine Bing - Autocorrect strikes!

Sounds like a lovely outfit quirky

Working my papal trousers today and got 4 compliments! Couldn't feel more fancy pants, inside and out.

botemp · 11/09/2018 18:48

Thanks, Elle, I am familiar with Anine Bing. The silk camisoles are really nice but they're a touch too lingerie in my eyes with the lace. It is nice enough silk to wear outside of the bedroom, and plenty do, skirt seems to be sold out in my size, of course Hmm. I think she's a former model of Scandi descent, the brand is a bit Isabel Marant with a grungier LA twist (where she's based). Very much that ripped skinnies, western boot, burnout muscle tank, cropped motorcycle jacket and, perfectly blown out hair topped with a fedora aesthetic. It's pricey for what it is (but possibly better prices in the US?) and not all fabric choices are great and a lot is a derivative of other things, like the Chloe Susanna boots.

Ruh finally granted me access to their site this afternoon, felt all sorts of special. Sadly the prices aren't as democratic as I hoped. Did really like the attached skirt(€410) and jacket (€825), but like everything else I'm finding it too high priced to buy into their ethos of 'accessible' fashion for the contemporary woman.

Also got some images in from Ami Paris, a menswear's brand who have done an adapted collection for women. Will post in the next post, quite disappointed that it's exclusively available in their Paris shop, I doubt it'll still be there by the time I get round there again and the pictures made me all grabby Sad

Thanks for the links Bo am currently lusting after the YSL boots. Hmm.

I think NY is going to be about the architecture, food, generally swanning about and a bit of vintage. Will have to have a pop into Bergdorfs though.

Have a suite at the Royalton so we're nicely situated in midtown.

That Ami Paris black coat is amazing. I would do bad things to get it...

ILikeyourHairyHands · 12/09/2018 00:55

Am not going to do the YSL, may get these
Marants however.

peonylover22 · 12/09/2018 06:32

I like those boots Hairy and Catherine Someone stop me from buying all the boots! I do need a pair of black ankle boots though, not suede, block heel, not pointy.
Lovely images Bo - I like the burgundy wrap coat best.
Am sure the Issa will be fine Elle I find it easy to get quite wound up about family event dressing. I was bridesmaid for my sister last summer but had to supply measurements in April for a Chinese made dress when I was still carrying 2.5 stone of baby weight. I’d lost most of that by the August wedding so the dress wasn’t a very flattering fit but it was too complicated for my UK seamstress to take in Hmm But actually on the day I found it didn’t really matter. At least you know the Issa fits and the colours will suit you well I think.
It’s warmer here in Normandy, so the summer clothes are back out for one final hurrah. Sezane top and sandals getting lots of wear, coupled with a striped denim mat skirt from pregnancy 1, have been adding Jigsaw chunky knit cardigan for cooler mornings but batting sticky toddler away from it.

Much impressed with the posing with challenging ceiling heights, Peony. You look lovely, nice to get a last bit of summer temps. Weather is odd here it was windy, clouded and looking positively autumn but it was humid and warm at 21 yesterday, feeling warmer than that, everyone looked so confused what to wear.

Hairy, just a heads up, I had the Isabel Marant Dicker boots which were quite similar to those linked, just slightly higher i think, which may be the difference (alongside having very finicky feet) but they were torture to wear, so much so I ended up selling them on as there was just no way they were ever going to be comfortable despite persevering as they looked like comfy moderate heel boots Confused So if they don't feel nice on the first try, don't assume it's a new shoe thing.

Hide credit cards warning, as attached just showed up in my inbox. Everlane now shipping internationally, forever. Although it did say 'my country' so not sure if that's the entire EU? Haven't checked the duties and import tax business yet but IIRC it's prepaid with them just not included in the price on screen.

We're the fancy pants the Dries trousers, Elle? Great to be complimented.

The Ami Paris black coat is amazing, love the whole outfit, actually.

Looking good, hairy, love the Belstaffs, I think they look better a bit battered up Grin.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 12/09/2018 09:45

Gah! I keep typing this post and losing it!!

Cheers for the heads-up re the Marants Bo, I have feet like plaice anyway, so we'll see how they go.

Oh and Elle, I like the Issa best. I'm presuming you don't have ridic KM hair and a balding German posho of a husband so nobody will make the connection....

quirkychick · 12/09/2018 10:03

at Hairy

Autocorrect keeps changing were to we're, grrr.

FallingForRosie · 12/09/2018 10:46

That Ami coat is just fantastic!

Very envious of those with good weather, I've broken out the tights here. Autumn comes early to the west of Ireland.

I'm sure I remember someone on one of the earlier threads mentioning the Dior show in Paris.

I'm very excited that the V&A are hosting what looks to be a similar (possibly the same?) Exhibition from February next year.

Tickets aren't on sale yet.

ToElleWithIt · 12/09/2018 10:47

Peony you look great. Love the cardigan and the posing #tallgirlproblems. I think you’re right that dressing for family affairs causes all sorts of stress because you’re not just dressing for yourself, but everyone else’s expectations of you too.

hairy the boots looks great, like a more wearable version of the Chloe pair with cut-outs that are doing the rounds. I also think you’ve got the length / width of the jeans just right to go with those boots. It’s something I really struggle with so it’s great to see it done well.

My husband is balding, but not even a little bit posh and while I have reasonably thick, long hair I generally steer clear of the duchess blow dry and am at least 5kg heavier than her so I’m probably safe from being mistaken for the real deal! Most tellingly of all I’ll be sporting a pair of daring open-toed shoes so no hiding place for any reptilian toes.

Quirky yes the bling bling Dries.

Off to have a look at Ami……

Sezane jumpers arrived. I’ll have a proper try on later, but I am on the fence about the Barry, but love the Sienna. The Magaret blouse definitely has potential to go a bit Italian Widow if I’m not careful, but I think it’s a good addition.

Another week in the office, another heavy rotation of the IDLF x Uniqlo blouses and grey wool pinstripe trousers (SO lovely and cosy) - apologies for the weird shadows in my office loos! Navy blouse worn with grey wool trousers and red heels. Cream blouse was worn with blue trousers, grey blazer and grey faux-snakeskin heels from Mango.

Bo I think you are right that it's channeling the 1940s vibe rather than 70s. My French colleague approved the navy shirt outfit as acceptably French once I'd reapplied red lipstick (today it's Kate Moss Rimmel shade 01) and then she said not to put a cardi on as it would be "la mode anglaise" which apparently consists of "l'art du layering" and wearing tweed. Further enquiries revealed that layering is so closely associated with English style that there is no equivalent term in French and she just says "le layering" (I made her laugh by guessing "marcottage", "couchage" and "superposition"!) Any French speakers here can confirm?
