Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Thank you for the rapid responses, mighty skincare gurus. Neither product is to be ingested, both topical application only!

Bo, you may have hit a lightbulb in my head... I've never really used the NuFace on my neck hangs head in shame I do mainly the naso-labial folds, the barcode creases around the mouth and then try to erase the sleep wrinkles on my chin. Sometimes the forehead, but those lines don't seem as deep. I'm not expecting miracles either!

Tsmummy08 · 09/08/2018 15:15

Hello all, just checking in and catching up to find out that amniotic fluid is where it's at :) I think I'll pass on that one!

Bo Hourglass - I've got (and love) the ambient lighting pallette plus Diffused Light as a standalone. The latter is less blurry, a slightly yellow-toned finishing powder. Very nice but if/when I buy again I'll get a large Dim light on its own.

I'm getting over a vile stomach upset today, so my skin is looking particularly awful... at least the weather is crap so I don't feel like I'm "wasting" a sunny day laying on the sofa drinking tea!

PickledHoneybuzzard · 09/08/2018 15:25

Hi Xing , I use my nu face on my neck. Using it sideways, with one ball at the top and one at the bottom (Iyswim). Start at top of the neck in the centre and sweep out to under the ear, three passes in each location and work way down before swapping to other side.

Gives immediate lifting effect, not sure it does much for skin texture though. I use it in between three weekly CACI treatments.

Also have 1 RF treatment each year on saggy chin skin.

Only other thing I do is take my face products down to the top of my boobs and body products up to the tip of my chin.

Enid thank you So much for the footner tip, soaked and rubbed trotters infinitely better. Have also hit on idea of putting the plug in the bath while showering for an additional soak.

Bo following on from another thread, have you seen anyone who has had a profhilo treatment? Seems to be the big new/coming thing.

And can anyone recommend a gentle cleanser which completely washes away? Finishing my 4th bottle of Ren gentle cleansing cream wash but now feeling it leaves a bit if a film? Thinking of trying the Cosrx ph neutral, good idea?

XingMing · 09/08/2018 15:40

Thanks Honeybuzzard, I'll follow your advice and see how it goes. I do the same as you with face and body products but perhaps not systematically enough!

TantricTwist · 09/08/2018 15:53

I'm with you Enid amniotic fluid is a step to far as are pictures of peeling feet after footner looking at you pickled Grin

EnidButton · 09/08/2018 16:56

Do we know how often escentual has the 33% off French skincare offer? I'm almost out of lrp tol but last time I bought from them they had the offer start the next day.

EnidButton · 09/08/2018 17:08

Was about to say it's ok, I've ordered it anyway but they've blocked me for 'a few minutes' because there are too many requests coming from my IP address. Wtf. Excuse me for looking at more than 3 things. Hmm Weird.

EnidButton · 09/08/2018 17:11

Ordered now. Excuse me wittering on Grin My patience and tolerance levels are low today.

JDSTER · 09/08/2018 17:33

pickled also watching with interest that profhilo thread.

Do you mean cosrx low ph cleanser? I like it a lot but my skin veers on oily. I don’t find it drying though but a very good morning cleanser which seems to last forever and certainly washes away with no trace of film or otherwise. Just to be aware it has tea tree in if that would offend you olfactory wise, or other.

mintmagnummm · 09/08/2018 18:01

Thank you Enid but I just don't want to be part of a thread if I'm not particularly wanted there if that makes sense. Seeing as the poster after me got responses makes me feel a little pushed away (I'm very aware I sound like a child here lol, it's hard to put it across over text without it sounding petty) hope you can see where I'm coming from though or at least understand what I'm trying to say!
Also I had that exact same message on escentual today, I think there was a fault there end. They are doing 20% off everything at the moment with the code ESCENTUAL20, i hope you got that email from them too? There's a perfume I really want and am tempted with this offer!

mintmagnummm · 09/08/2018 18:02

Oh and also meant to say that I think I'm in the same boat as you Enid with regards to HA, really think it breaks me out :-(, have stopped using the mineral 89 just to see....

EnidButton · 09/08/2018 20:28

I got the 20% off with it thank you Mint Just ordered 1 for now as I'm wondering if I should change it soon. Someone else had that problem with HA too. I think it's quite common. Shame as it's a brilliant ingredient otherwise and it's in so much.
Wonder what the next big thing will be.

Was reflecting on how much my routine and how I feel about my skin has changed positively since starting on these threads. I don't get any breakouts like I used to, before following all the advice on here and learning about ingredients. Changing my diet (no wheat) and simplifying things slowly worked brilliantly. Still get a spot or three before my period but that's ok. I feel confident reading the backs of things now instead of it feeling like another language. So now I want to freshen up my skin and focus on smoothing out the teeny bumps.

EnidButton · 09/08/2018 20:30

If any of that makes sense. 🙄 It doesn't to me. Grin It's a positive change to my skin anyway.

mintmagnummm · 09/08/2018 20:43

Ah that's good Enid I'm glad you got the 20% discount. What was it you ordered? The toleriane fluid? I think moisturiser is the hardest thing to find and be content with.

botemp · 09/08/2018 21:03

Pickled, I don't exactly hang with the nip and tuck crowd so don't know anyone whose used it personally. From what I've read it's a brand name filler that's really marketed towards those who don't want the risk of synthetic chemicals (they're considered safe but they haven't been around for forever, so there's that). It's a softer look and is more scaffolding than volume replacement or lifting like other HA fillers, less obvious and similarly a temporary effect but supposedly it doesn't break down as quickly, I'm guessing the only research available on it is from the manufacturer only at this point, so take with a grain of salt. I'd compare it a bit to NIOD MMHC, it's a touch more advanced than standard HA serums but it will work well for some things but not so much for others. Think that's the case with most fillers, it's usually a balance of right filler, right amount, right area, injected by a medical Michelangelo who knows when to hold back.

Thanks for chiming in about the neck treatments Flowers

pickled i for one can recommend the Cosrx cleanser, it washes off very cleanly. But not if you’re sensitive to tea tree oil, it’s noticable albeit not overpowering.

Pupsiecola · 09/08/2018 22:12

Another vote for the Cosrx pH wash. I love it. As others have said it does smell a bit of tea tree but I like that smell and find it refreshing and it definitely add to the experince for me. I've been using mine for about a year and it's not quite finished yet.

Last day of hols today. Spent with friends in (on ?) Il de Re.

Tsmummy08 · 10/08/2018 07:52

Pupsie I went to Il de Re as a teenager - it was lovely, very picturesque if IIRC. Is it still?

So the CosRx cleanser, is it suitable for drier skin? I don't usually react to perfume/essential oils... always love a new cleanser :) I'm using Oskia renaissance as my morning cleanse at the mo but it's getting a bit low.

botemp · 10/08/2018 08:20

Tsn, I've never used the CosRX cleanser but generally it is advised for combination-oily skin. I'm combination normal and I wouldn't be all that eager to use it, I'd be okay with it in summer when I go a touch more combo. You'd probably like the Biologique Recherche Lait U I'm using currently, it's like a plusher version of Toleriane Dermo. Although if you're dry it isn't imperative you use a cleanser in the AM, just a rinse with water would suffice.

TS yes it's beautiful. I've never been. Our friends parents have a stunning house in St Martin, right on the quayside. We didn't stay with them as they have a houseful but we visited and went for dinner etc. They have a pool which was heated to 29 degrees which my boys loved!

I would say my skin usually errs on the side of dry, although my t-zone can be a bit oily, especially in the heat.

I am so excited about getting back to my full routine. And also back to my 7am exercise class. I've missed the first 2 weeks of this 6 week course. Ready to jump back in. Currently on 7 hour drive to tunnel.

Pupsiecola · 10/08/2018 08:27

Bo where do you get your Lait U from?

botemp · 10/08/2018 08:31

I bought it at Biologique Recherche in Paris. Can't remember who it was (Lego?) who found an online UK seller of Biologique Recherche recently and shared it on here. Sorry I forgot to bookmark it but you had to login and then you could see prices. I have to say BR has been expanding who sells their stuff, it was one shop in the whole of the Netherlands (possibly Benelux) for years and just in the past year there are two new retailers in different cities so it appears they are making efforts to make it more accessible.

Thanks Bo. I'm not sure if I should be using something else in the winter. I just really like the Cosrx though.

I'm enjoying using the Vichy 89. Waking up to very soft skin.
