Go for it! No question too silly.......

I totally get how intimidating some counters can be ! Plus I've gone "undercover" recently and gone for a few free makeovers and have wanted to cry when I see myself after and am determined to never make any of my clients or models feel like that.......

I'm not promising I'm a miracle worker but I've got a few years of experience in lots of fields of MUA so if I can help I will x

Ps I think you should start the thread off lovely battleax! X

Not hijacking your thread OP, but I do work on a counter.

From a personal POV I much prefer if someone is honest and tells me that they are jst looking to try today rather than try and look like they have intentions of purchasing when they don’t. I understand that everyone wants to try products before they commit but be honest about it.

The advice I would give is look around the beauty hall at the consultants rather than the brand and look at their makeup and go to one who looks like you would like to in terms of makeup. Also find a picture of a look you would like, my idea of natural makeup may be totally different to yours!

I agree the best thing you can do is a good skin regime that works for you, and it can be trial and error when achieving it, but this will make a complete difference to how your makeup sits.

PatienceIsAVirtue1 · 25/06/2018 18:11

I'm 19, and I don't wear much makeup , because I'm terrible at applying it, and sometimes it irritates my skin. I love wearing mascara, but I find my eyes to be really irritated after a while, can you recommend a mascara suitable for my sensitive skin? Or should I have eyelash tinting? Also, I always struggle to find a lipstick shade that suits my skin, I want something quite subtle as I'm pale in winter, but I tan in summer. I have blonde hair. Do you recommend a lipstick shade?

Also, what is the one thing that automatically makes someone look better? Is it groomed eyebrows, a good lipstick...?

UninspiringUserName · 25/06/2018 18:12

chocolatesprinkle, thank you so much. I have no idea what a cut crease is but am off to Google right now...

SuperSuperSuper · 25/06/2018 18:20

I'm also interested in the "best eye pencil" query. I have a L'Oréal one in a nice colour but it stays put for two hours max. very disappointing!

deloresclaiborne · 25/06/2018 18:49

i've just googled weleda skin food and its for dry skin can you recommend one for oily skin
i'm 50 so could do with a miracle Grin

StormyLovesOdd · 25/06/2018 18:50

I'd like eyeliner help too, everything I try seems to disappear within an hour.

Wishimaywishimight · 25/06/2018 18:53

Hi, what a lovely idea for a thread!

What products would you recommend for sparse over-plucked eyebrows? What hair is there is also very fair so without anything on them they a virtually invisible. My fav so far is Sleek but I find it quite hard to apply with the little brushes and tend to overdo it.

thereareflowersinmygarden · 25/06/2018 19:04

How the sodding hell do you get the stuff to stay on? Never found a foundation that lasts

imsconequeen · 25/06/2018 19:09

I'm in lancs

For less clumpy mascara....don't pump it up and wipe off excess on plastic/paper bit on a cotton bud. Again I've got loads of go to mascaras but I'd only decide which one to use once I'd seen what kind of lashes you have . Mary quant have "finer" wands which I don't find clump.......

For those wanting to know how to do brows look up Katie jane Hughes on Instagram - legend

I'd recommend sitting cross legged on the floor in front of a mirror resting your hand on your bent knee to practice eyeliner. Weird I know but that's how I learnt. You can also draw a few dots along the line to join up , that can help. Sleek pencils and gosh pencils (Superdrug) are bloody brilliant and don't drag. Don't oversharpen and if you do warm it up on the back of your hand. I use pens and keep it tucked right in to the base of the lash to start with.....

Back after tea x

Hi, how lovely of you to do this.
Can I be cheeky and ask 2 questions?
I never wear makeup at all, not even on special occasions because I can't apply it and wouldn't have a clue what to use to do what at all.
But here goes: firstly, under my eyes are permanently black due to lack of sleep. What can I use to hide it? And how would I use whatever it is I need to use? And how do I apply it, what would I need? Literally need a step by step guide.
Secondly, I've recently started getting my eyebrows waxed, which is great. But between waxes the hairs grow back obviously. I heard concealer can be used to cover the stray hairs between waxing appointments. Is this true? And if so, as before what type would be best? And how would I apply it, what would I need? Again need a step by step guide.
Thank you

I would recommend a serum with hydralonic acid in it.....hado labo (get on amazon for about £14) is ace. Better than some I've used over £100!

Blending down the neck is always a good way with hands/sponge is always a winner.....

Don't be fooled with using oil free moisturisers for "oily" skin. Your skin produces more oil then to combat this....

To get foundation to stay more depends obv on how much your using/what you're using. I don't think primers are really necessary if you've got your skincare right.

Oil of Olay total effects is one of my go to "everyday" moisturisers.....

To cover dark circles I do think that ysl touche eclat is worth the cash. There are several shades.......don't go too light. One pump onto the dark crease.....leave for 30 secs and tap it over area with finger.......

If your skin is really pale and your hair on your eyebrows are really dark not much can cover that ! I'd go for a bright lip to distract from that area!

God, sorry I'm missing people out. Not intentional, been up since 4am with a baby practicing his clapping and shouting tractors so not totally in the zone!

Ask me again if I've missed you x

Ps brows really do make a face. Thicker the better in my opinion ! I'm not a lover of hd brows personally but some shit hot microblading geniuses out there!

Brushes for a 10 year old - Superdrug/tk maxx for collection of no more than 10 in a kit.

Facial oil as a night cream. I often use my sons bottom butter from Waitrose!

Sheet masks - life changing ! X

Are you able to recommend some mid-price brushes? Ones that are suitable for everyday use. Thank you!

imsconequeen · 25/06/2018 19:48

Probably real techniques are your best mid budget brushes. Often on offer x

What sort of lip product should I be asking for? I find lipstick too much for everyday (fine for a night out), hate the feel of lipgloss, find lipstain drying. But now I'm hurtling towards 50 I feel the need of something on my lips to balance my face, ideally a naturalish red. Any time I've gone to the counters I get given a gloss or lipstain to try - is there something else I could ask for?

imsconequeen · 25/06/2018 19:52

Battleax tinted moisturiser, eyebrow mascara, the balm Mary Lou luminizer, ysl false lash effect mascara, eyelash curlers!

Well done for suggesting the thread lovely x

imsconequeen · 25/06/2018 20:00

I really rate revlon colourburst matte balm for lips. Looks like a chubby pencil . Great for striking colours, natural colours or reds x

I have vitiligo on my face. What would you suggest to cover it? I don't want a foundation that is too heavy. I try take tan and then mix it with some concealer.

I am Caucasian, but it does show a fair bit, especially in summer.

happymummy12345 · 25/06/2018 20:04

Thanks for the advice, but as I said o never ever wear any makeup so that's much use really.

Whenasuitcasejustwontdo · 25/06/2018 20:06

I have very patchy lips. I'm not sure how to put lipstick on to get an even colour. When I put some on all I can see is the dark patches showing through. How do I solve this? Thank you so much-needed great idea for a thread!

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 25/06/2018 20:07

Thank you @imsconequeen Thanks I will look for that tomorrow!

NomsQualityStreets · 25/06/2018 20:08

I'm 25 and have OK skin but my under eye area seems to sag in and the skin there feels really thin.
I usually manage to get away with it when I use the lightest shade of the Collection concealer.
Is there any good products I can use to combat it and give it some more elasticity?

PodgeBod · 25/06/2018 20:12

I have short straight eyelashes, any tips for curling them please?

imsconequeen · 25/06/2018 20:22

Sorry happymummy12345 if I wasn't helpful

Good heavy duty foundations to cover birthmarks/vitiligo etc are either Ben nye or dermablend (although this can look cakey so I mix with other foundations)

Shu umera eyelash curlers are the dogs b** for any eyelash . You can heat them up for added curl with a blast from hairdryer. Hold mirror under your chin, looking down and wiggle your mascara right from the root of your lash

Patchy lips? Conceal them first!

Any eye creams with vitamin a are good for crepey areas around eyes......environ do a good one but sadly quite costly

If your using a cream highlighter or powder one on your upper cheekbones try not to get it into your crows feet! Just makes them more obvious x
