Go for it! No question too silly.......

I totally get how intimidating some counters can be ! Plus I've gone "undercover" recently and gone for a few free makeovers and have wanted to cry when I see myself after and am determined to never make any of my clients or models feel like that.......

I'm not promising I'm a miracle worker but I've got a few years of experience in lots of fields of MUA so if I can help I will x

Ps I think you should start the thread off lovely battleax! X

Tell me honestly what you think of women who are against makeup for feminist reasons.

Also, if you hardly wear any yourself, have you ever had customers taking issue with that? I once had a makeover at a department store counter (many years ago) (which I hated, and looked ridiculous) and the woman said she was required to wear makeup to work at all times.

I once went to see a dentist who had really awful teeth and I found it a bit surprising.

TheWineDarkSea · 25/06/2018 15:05

What would you buy (make up and brushes etc) as a starter pack for a 10yo who wants to experiment with make up? She sees the older girls at ballet being expected to wear it for auditions and wants to practice.

It would just be for playing with at home, not going out wearing it.

EyeRolls · 25/06/2018 15:14

Is it really so bad to fall asleep in your make up? And if you accidentally do, what's a good rejuvenator the following day?

What would be your 3 can't-live-without products?

My lip line is fading and getting a bit jagged with ageing. Any tips?

Thanks, OP!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 25/06/2018 15:14

You say you've done some free makeovers recently. Would you recommend any of them?

Any any tips for learning how to apply eye pencil? I love the look but fail miserably on myself.

Battleax · 25/06/2018 15:19

Yay. Found you Smile

I’ve suddenly gone through an early 40s ageing spurt and think I need to throw all my make up and start buying from scratch again.

Which four or five products should I start with?

Yarnswift · 25/06/2018 15:21

Buy a packet of mascara wands.....and use them over lips with a bit of Vaseline. If all lipsticks are causing drying flakey patches, give lips a break for a bit. Blisteze cream for a few days then go back to it!

Tried that Grin didn’t work. Also Vaseline on lips? It tastes like petrol! Grin

Littlelambpeep · 25/06/2018 15:21

Oh thank you so much..

Open pores that makes make up look awful I tried Clinique pore minimiser but doesn't do much reallyv

Grimtimes · 25/06/2018 15:23

Very lucky I have hardly any wrinkles but the skin on my eyes drags when I apply eyeshadow and eyeliner so it always goes on patchy. If I fab it on I get it all over my cheeks and it's a mess...help!

UninspiringUserName · 25/06/2018 15:24

Ooooh I love this, thank you -scone-.

I have hooded eyelids and no matter how I do my eye make up, it never really looks like I've done anything. Any advice on what to do?

LawDegreeBarbie · 25/06/2018 15:24

Cool toned contour makes me look ridiculous and dirty even when applied sparingly. How do I get the chiselled look without looking like a fake tanned skeletor?

teachergirl2011 · 25/06/2018 15:28

What is the best make foundation which covers well and lasts all day?

BlackHillsofDakota · 25/06/2018 15:28

Slightly different question, my dd wants to be a make up artist. Most of the college courses seem to be hair and beauty (treatments), did you do training courses or how did you get in to it? She wants to do events and special effects rather than work on a counter but would be happy to start somewhere like MAC or Charlotte Tillbury if that's the best way to get experience. Thanks

alwaysthepessimist · 25/06/2018 15:29

where are you based? Now I have reached the menopause age and my whole body/skin has changed I feel in need of a total makeover, my wardrobe is already cleared out and I have totally changed my style (for the better I think), at the moment all I use is the No 7 lift & luminate range, serum, pore minimiser then foundation (medium) applied with a brush then loose powder over but that's it - I feel like everything I was comfortable with isn't right anymore & don't know the best place or person to go to for proper advice without it just being a total sales pitch!

Rapunzel91 · 25/06/2018 16:14

Ooh I Iove this! How do you avoid foundation/BB cream to stick to dry patches, show up as cakey? I’ve tried so many foundation brushes and sponges..

Paperdolly · 25/06/2018 16:30

For my eye bags I've started using My Perfect Eyes from Lloyd’s Pharmacy. It's brilliant but now I can't go out without it on as I immediately look like I haven't slept for a week. I also applied too much first time and I looked like I'd had a stroke! Would you recommend it?

My foundation always looks caked on no matter what brand. I also have a very very very uneven skin tone which doesn't help!!

ReluctantlyRedundant101 · 25/06/2018 17:03

FWIW alwaysthepessimist I visited the Clarins counter for the the exact same reason
I bought the pore minimising serum and the perfecting touch primer because I thought both were good and seemed to disguise my pores
She also said I should do more masks to control the oiliness

imsconequeen · 25/06/2018 17:42

Try some cream eyeshadows not powder if they dry out or look like their creasing. Conceal lids first. Urban decay will only work on products with silicone and apply v sparingly

I always find orangey tones in nars.......I don't use them much!

I don't work on a counter, I don't really go to them that much as I tend to get to try products before they come out. Occasionally if I do (and wearing no make up) I don't get treated that well and never tell them what I do! I do take sample pots and fill them with testers but I then have to explain my job. Most girls are nice but some look at me like shit!

If you want to have make up done I'd go to mua not a counter. Not a criticism but it's much better to try loads of brands out not just one

I trained at a make up academy then shadowed a few well known artists (for free) on shoots for a long time. Once my foot was in the door I built up my contacts. You can also be represented by agent if you want to specialise in a certain field. I'm not your typical going out makeupy look person or wedding day make up look person although I do do that for a few special few!

Will just read other posts back then try to answer x

I couldn't care less if women don't wear make up. Seriously I don't judge at all. Whatever your comfortable with. I can tell straight away if someone's wearing a look they don't like so I think that's most important.

My holy grail product is GOOD SKINCARE REGIME! No point in putting paint on an windowsill that's got rotten peeling paint on underneath!

Weleda skin food is ace. Touché eclat is hard to beat (esp on eyelids, sounds crazy but I do most days if wearing make up ).Shu umera eyelash curlers. Micellar cleanser.....use it in morning too and see how much dirt still on cotton wool!

Less goth look - English Rose blush......glossy lids.

For those with hooded eyes I'd avoid eyeshadow and instead get a few lash extensions to outer eyelash area to widen the eye..,...

More to come! X

I find that no matter what foundation I put on my cheeks it kid of goes horribly patch and clogged looking. I have oily skin and have tried with/without serum and with/without primer but nothing helps. If I try without moisturiser it's too dry. I need the coverage for red cheeks.

Thanks

GallicosCats · 25/06/2018 18:03

How do I get the right mascara for my curly lashes without them clumping and looking like a tarantula that's scampered through mud? I have a hell of a job getting to the corner lashes.

JustHereForThePooStories · 25/06/2018 18:04

I have a fat face with a double-chin Blush and struggle to blend my foundation so I don’t have tide marks.

Any advice?

CookieDoughKid · 25/06/2018 18:05

Can you recommend an outstanding face moisturiser prior to putting on makeup? Do you recommend a hyralonic acid base one? Then do you use an spf face primer on top? If so, which one? Thank you!

chocolatesprinkle · 25/06/2018 18:09

@UninspiringUserName You have enough upper eyelid to do a really good cut crease - have a look on YouTube for tons of tutorials, it’ll look great on you Smile
