This is really embarrassing but could you please tell me which dress you prefer?

I would never normally do this, being the size of an elephant and everything, but I have a wedding very soon and need to pick a dress. Have had mixed opinions so far so hoping to get more opinions (sorry about the state of my living room as well)

Please try not to laugh at my headless pictures, I've name changed as I post quite a lot and don't want to be outed

The green I feel more comfortable in as it doesn't cling, is comfy and is my favourite colour. But the high neckline makes my already huge boobs look matronly (I am wearing a new, well fitting bra so it's not the bra making them look saggy but the dress!)

The blue I prefer the neckline but feel the top is too big and the bottom part too small (hate that you can see my tummy as well )

I have ginger hair, blue eyes and as you can see, Casper skin!!

Any tips on how you would style either dress? I have no idea! I can only wear small heels but would prefer flats even though I don't think they would go. The shoes I'm wearing are just to see what the dresses look like with tights and shoes! Oh, and to make it more difficult I need size 9 extra wide fit so not many places I can buy shoes from Sad

Please help me!!

I have pale skin and ginger hair and green really suits me, you have an amazing figure - go for the green and get some lovely wedges - just make sure you don't upstage the bride Grin

IwankaTramp · 15/06/2018 06:58

I think you look great in both and have a really lovely hourglass figure that you should celebrate.

Have you thought about embracing that retro/rockabilly vibe?

IwankaTramp · 15/06/2018 07:10

If I had your shape I would be dressing in this sort of thing....

I think these would look cool..

Jealous of your options, actually!

I actually prefer the shape and neckline if the navy dress, but the black tights are doing it no favours - have you tried it with nude tights?

Loonoon · 15/06/2018 08:58

I like the green. It makes the most of your figure (which is no way as big as you describe) and looks like a special, occasion outfit. The blue is a bit workaday.

For tights I would recommend a very fine mesh fishnet like this. They are smart without looking as dowdy as opaque and add the appearance of tone and definition so are very flattering. They would also go well with your retro hair and red lipstick.

RoseWhiteTips · 15/06/2018 11:32

Not fishnets or retro 50s dresses. Stick with your lovely green dress, OP!

Nnamechangedforthis · 15/06/2018 12:04

No, not fishnets please! Nude tights and shoes. Less is more!

Why is this ALWAYS suggested for anyone over a size 14? I think it looks unspeakably naff for anyone who dresses “normally” day to day to suddenly look like they’ve teleported back to the 50s. Victory rolls and all.

There are some really beautiful clothes out there for larger ladies, they don’t need to be caricatured like this.

Maraki · 15/06/2018 12:48

I would actually go for the navy dress but with a big bold necklace and rose gold courts or sandals. No tights.

INeedNewShoes · 15/06/2018 13:44

Shirley - I couldn't agree more, and even worse when a cheap looking polyester costume dress is suggested for a wedding instead of a lovely classy number like the OP has found.

IwankaTramp · 15/06/2018 13:55

Personally I like the retro look and think it looks great.

IwankaTramp · 15/06/2018 13:58

My thinking was that although the dresses look nice thy are a bit dull for a wedding. They look very ‘Brenda from accounts’ .

iwanka if you are the type to wear fancy dress to a wedding you would think that.

OP your dress is classy and beautiful. Ignore people who like to look like clowns.

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 15/06/2018 14:06

I like them both, but the green pips it. I think you look lovely, no elephants in sight.

BlancheM · 15/06/2018 14:06

Green, definitely. Just lovely! The colour goes so well with your hair colour aswell btw.
Brave a bare leg! Some body blur, or spray on leg makeup in a can (from the self tan section) or a bit of fake tan will make you feel more confident. If not, nude tights are fine.

So then why not suggest some beautiful dresses? Why do larger ladies have to look like a bit of a joke, almost in fancy dress?

Lonelynessie · 15/06/2018 14:47

The green is fab. Don't do the whole 1950's fancy dress thing.

IwankaTramp · 15/06/2018 16:03

It’s getting very narrow minded on Style and Beauty.

ShirleyPhallus · 15/06/2018 17:28

GrinGrinGrin

Actually I think it’s that women over a size 14 want to branch out from LindyVom

oooompa · 15/06/2018 17:47

Thanks for all the feedback! I'm definitely sticking to the green dress Smile I would like to keep the blue as well, but I'm on my healthy eating plan so hopefully will lose more weight (17lbs down so far, fingers crossed many more to follow!) so if I keep the blue and DO lose weight it won't fit me for too long. But then, I have a wardrobe of clothes (some that have been there for 5 years) that I promised myself I would fit back into and still haven't, so maybe I should keep the blue dress and wear it?!)

Can I ask for opinions on these earrings? I think they're really beautiful and for long dangly earrings they still look quite delicate and not something I stole from Pat Butcher, but whether they would compliment the dress or not I don't know!

www.glitzysecrets.com/rose-of-grace-earrings/

I do really like the 1950s rockabilly look but not on myself, I'd prefer something that makes me blend into the crowd instead of standing out!
