Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Thank you Enid you're right I need to stop looking for a while! I wish I could have an outer body experience where I could look at myself from the outside as if I was someone else so I could see what I thought if that makes any sense at all!

botemp · 04/06/2018 20:41

Visibility of pores has many causes/influences. However, I'm taking my cue from Enid and suggest we go back to talking mint Magnums instead despite thinking chocolate and mint together is vile. So can somebody explain to me what a Magnum Feast was/is? I haven't had a Magnum since probably the early 00s Blush

In other news I've ordered the Garden of Wisdom Vitamin C as my Vichy is looking a bit low. Still undecided on what cleansing oil to get, may use the temporary prime subscription and get a DHC one. Oh, and the French have finally sent out my A313, so hopefully it will get here in some reasonable timeframe now.

Violet,

Princess I found this on QVC if you watch the video the chap goes through them. Might be a good idea if you need all of those products but I'm not sure how good or potent they are compared to others on the market, QVC are good with their video demos but they're a bit less than forthcoming with ingredient lists IMO.

princessbear80 · 04/06/2018 20:53

Thanks bo, If that reply was for me not violet. Yes I wasn’t convinced by the blogger, hence the question here. I will give it a wide birth. I’m interested in the Garden of Wisdom retinol, especially after your comments above. I think it’s top of my list so will probably give it a go.

botemp · 04/06/2018 21:26

Sorry, yes, that was in answer to you princess, not Violet. Apologies Blush

No worries Grin

mintmagnummm · 05/06/2018 06:26

Bo could you please tell me the causes/influences as I'm genuinely interested? This is coming from a stable mindset lol.

Just out of curiosity how old do you all think I am? Obviously not how old do I look as I'm not putting a pic up lol but just by the way I come across?

botemp · 05/06/2018 06:51

Sorry, mint, no, I'm not going to engage with you on either of those questions as I don't see it going well.

OP posts:
mintmagnummm · 05/06/2018 07:11

Bo I really know u mean well but I'm a big girl and I'm just asking a genuine question out of curiosity, I don't need to be wrapped in cotton wool. I know it just because u care (I hope lol) but please respect that I am an adult and have lived with my issues since I was 15 if not younger so over 20 years now. It makes me not want to share on here when I'm having an off day or a flare up as I genuinely have questions and like to have the answers or a discussion rather than being told no like a child if that makes sense? I mean it in the nicest way but please can you just answer the question adult to adult and not worry about my issues, it actually makes it worse tbh because I then start fretting and googling etc and then end up tangled in lots of nonsense on the internet.

mintmagnummm · 05/06/2018 07:12

My bloody frezyderm bottle has broke!

SophieLion · 05/06/2018 07:41

What happened to your bottle Mint?

The pump bit? I find the lower the amount product left inside the bottle, the worse the pump action gets.

SophieLion · 05/06/2018 07:45

Bo - Feast was (is? Are they still around?) an amazing ice cream on a stick (ice-lolly style) with solid chocolate centre, then chocolate ice cream around it and all inside a chocolate case with nuts. Delicious!!! I can't do links but google Feast and you'll see.
I think they do/did other flavours too - like mint.

And mint and chocolate is also delicious 😋

mintmagnummm · 05/06/2018 08:14

Sophie yes they are around in tescos! I have them in my freezer lol! And the ice cream man at my sons school does both the original and mint ones!! Other than that though they are hard to source.
Yes the pump bit has broke, the gold bit and a little of the plastic.

botemp · 05/06/2018 08:25

mint, can you please link to some recognised dysmorphia organisations/charities that offer reading material on how best to support someone with dysmorphia?

I want to see you recover and as mentioned before I have no experience with this but instinctively it feels counter to be engaging in debates with you about your appearance, or what I feel is an extension thereof, when you're showing this amount of anxiety/focus around it.

Thanks, Sophie, that does sound like a proper feast. So it's not by Magnum, but a competitor of sorts?

I think I'm still traumatised by my first, and only, After Eight. Chocolate and mint has been deemed inedible ever since.

OP posts:
SophieLion · 05/06/2018 08:35

You can unscrew that whole top bit Mint and just take the cream straight out of the tube.

I think Feast is by Walls Ice Cream Bo and Magnum is Unilever? And After Eights 😋 😋 Unfortunately mint is not an ice cream flavour that the Greeks care for. Any green ice cream here is pistachio flavoured - no comment.

So for those of you who don't like mint and chocolate, do you like orange (ha ha my auto-spell changed that to "organs"Grin) and chocolate or ginger and chocolate?

SophieLion · 05/06/2018 08:45

Ah yes Mint. I remember the ice cream van did have Feasts! Was trying to convince the DCs how great they were but they all went for something called a Mr Magic GrinGrin

botemp · 05/06/2018 08:55

Big no on chocolate and 'organs' 😂😂

Chocolate and orange is okay provided it's not a synthetic flavouring but it's not my favourite. I don't like candied ginger at all (fresh is great). I do like passion fruit with chocolate but I'd say my preference is red berries.

Only ever liked the taste of pistachio ice cream at a very artisinal gelato place in Italy, otherwise I find that a waste of space as well. Straciatella is also always a big let down in the flavour department. I think it's gone global now but if it hasn't count yourself very lucky, bright blue Smurf ice cream is beyond rank.

No ruining my chocolate with mint or orange Grin nuts are acceptable as is salt or caramel
It's like fruit in cheese. If I wanted fruit I would eat it WITH the cheese. I did see salted caramel cheese for sale EnvyEnvy and had to restrain myself from verbally expressing my opinion on it

botemp · 05/06/2018 09:02

Is there anyone that actually likes chili in their chocolate beyond the brief novelty factor? I'm a bit bored with salt on chocolate.

Nuts are great, less of a fan of caramel, salted or otherwise. Recent convert to peanut butter and chocolate, how have I been missing out on that for so long? Also really like cacao nibs in my chocolate.

Ollivander84 · 05/06/2018 09:04

I had a bar the other day that was lovely. Chocolate, almond, hazelnut and salt
I like peanut butter on banana!

mintmagnummm · 05/06/2018 10:18

Bo sorry I don't know of any. Unfortunately I will never recover, most people with it don't, we just have to learn to control it as best we can and be prepared for it to flare up every now and then.
My question has been completely blown out of proportion now though, I'm just genuinely interested/curious what causes or influences large/visible pores it really is as simple as that. I'm not about to start messing with my skin I just wanted to know your thoughts on the subject.

My rash I get when I take antibiotics has made an appearance, 2 bloody weeks after I finished the course this time! So odd.

mintmagnummm · 05/06/2018 10:19

Oh and I HATE after eights!!! In fact I detest all cream centred chocolate!
I love terrys chocolate orange mmmm

SophieLion · 05/06/2018 10:42

I remember being very disappointed with Straciatella once. I thought it was going to be vanilla ice cream and it so wasn't.....

Smurf ice cream Hmm I don't think that delicacy has reached Greece yet!

I do like chocolate and nuts together. Not so much chocolate and raisins. Love all ginger and especially fresh ginger in hot water as an alternative to herbal teas. Also yes to peanut butter layered with banana on pumpernickel (I don't eat wheat so no "normal bread" unfortunately).

I do NOT like chocolate with liquid liquor centres. Had a nasty experience: wearing a brand new silk dress at a party. Picked up a chocolate and took a bite, totally unprepared for it being all liquid in the middle and it dropped all down my dress. Dress has never been the same since Sad

mintmagnummm · 05/06/2018 11:07

Nutella on toast (or wheat free equivalent) with sliced strawberries on top is bloody lovely!

princessbear80 · 05/06/2018 11:27

SophieLion you may not have mint ice-cream, but do you have rose flavoured in Greece? It’s lovely! Or is that a Greek-Cypriot thing?
