Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Hurray!

Think I'm a bit high on influence power now Blush

Although, AHEM, MNHQ, it's mintmagnummm not mintmagnum.

(Ooh I could just eat a magnum. Double chocolate one...)

Shall we dust off the red carpet? Lay on a buffet with a pineapple and cheese hedgehog as the centre piece?

botemp · 03/06/2018 23:16

If it means I get to dust off one of my special occasion dresses that otherwise never get to see the light of day alongside impossibly high heels, I'm all in. Although, shopping for the occasion sounds good too. I'll even forget about my sugar ban and eat a magnum with you all. Well, probably a mini one...

And just so you all know, the Vichy Thermal Water is coming as my date, and my date alone. Enid you can bring Cicaplast.

Enid ❤️ Cicaplast 4 eva.

😂😂 bo thank you for pointing out the mistake in my name, how rude of them! Listen ladies if any of you are going to have a magnum it just HAS TO BE MINT!!!! All other flavours are inferior ok! Actually forget that, if all of you start having mint there will be less for me! I have palpitations when I see the empty space on the shelf where the mint ones should be!

mintmagnummm · 04/06/2018 06:32

Sorry ladies that was quite a bit of waffle wasn't it! I'm sleep deprived, had a crap night!

SophieLion · 04/06/2018 06:52

Congratulations on the Frezyderm Swears By! 🥂🎉

Mint, mint choc chip was always my favourite ice cream flavour Smile (don't eat dairy now sadly). And I loved Feasts... mmmm

Violet18 · 04/06/2018 08:17

Another fan of the Frezyderm here! Have to really avoid the whole eye area though as it seems to migrate into my eyes and it stings like a mofo Shock

BlessYawnBless · 04/06/2018 11:05

mint I'm a huge fan of mint Magnums.
They do a box of 6 mini magnums, 3 regular and 3 mint. They're small so I felt very virtuous buying those rather than the full size. 3 regular for DH, 3 mint for me. Perfect.
You can probably guess the end of this story. I ate one. Was unsatisfied. Ate another 5 minutes later and was almost satisfied. Ending up eating the third one after another couple of minutes and that did the trick! Don't be fooled my mini mint magnums, they just don't compare.

Not much to report regarding skincare. It's too soon for me to do an assessment just yet but the Frezyderm will definitely be a re-purchase.
On the subject of sunscreen, I'd commented about how I like the LRP SPF50 Dry Touch Creme Gel but struggled with it because of the white cast.
Well, yesterday I was doing a work event which meant 3 hours outdoors and no shade. I haven't had chance to test the Frezyderm for that long yet so I decided on the LRP despite the white cast. I opened a brand new one and it was different. It has a pump on it now rather than being a squeezy tube. It did not leave any white cast at all. Have they reformulated it?

I wore it all day, didn't even bother with foundation (which is a sign that my initial skincare routine is working well!) and no white cast at all.

So it and the Frezyderm will both work for me and I'll repurchase both.

mintmagnummm · 04/06/2018 11:11

Sophie yes feasts are amazing too! Mmmmmm

mintmagnummm · 04/06/2018 11:14

Bless that's so funny! I wouldn't buy the mini ones because I believe they don't have the crunchy sugar pieces on the outside?? That's one of reasons I love them! Apart from the fact mint is my favourite flavour ice cream!
Yes the lrp dry touch was reformulated, I'm the opposite to you though as I loved the original one but the newer pump one did not work for me at all! It pilled no matter what I did!

mintmagnummm · 04/06/2018 13:23

What causes visible pores on all areas of the face?

BlessYawnBless · 04/06/2018 14:58

mint I wonder if it was the lack of those crispy/crunchy bits on the mini Magnums that left me unsatisfied? Smile
I can't help with the pores, I have a lot of open pores but only in my t-zone. Has your skin become oilier recently?

princessbear80 · 04/06/2018 15:51

Relatively new poster here, loving the mint ice cream chat as well as skin care advice. I favour a mint Feast myself!

I’m still looking for some cost effective skincare that works for me, and on the hunt for a retinol product. Already using Vichy vit c and Aldi glycolic pads which I love. Have recently introduced an Olay serum but not convinced it’s great, and neutrogena moisturiser with niacinamide in it which I like.
Stumbled across these on The Spike blog, has anyone used them, are they any good?
Alpha H Vitamin Profiling Collection

Seems to cover a lot of bases, just wondering if it’s too good to be true?

Thanks in advance

princessbear80 · 04/06/2018 16:22

I think I meant HA not niacinamide in the moisturiser Blush still getting to grips with actives and trying to remember their names.

mintmagnummm · 04/06/2018 16:30

Bless yes definitely the lack of crunchy sugar bits! And yes I think this weather has made me oilier, however my pores have always been visible, I have pores and texture on my skin due to sensitivity and dehydration 😏

SallieSallow · 04/06/2018 18:13

Woo hoo fame at last Grin Glitterball 🍾🥂🎉

I don't like Mint magnums or any other Mint ice cream Blush but it leaves all the more for you that do! Favourite magnum is the one with caramel.

Princess I only use the eye gel from alpha a, I didn't get on with their liquid gold but was ok with some other cleansers and moisturisers from the range though not had anything recently. I'm not properly understanding what they're offering in your link - do you get all of them or just one and how do you self prescribe Confused

Violet18 · 04/06/2018 18:48

@mintmagnummm I too have visible pores all over my face but my skin is also oily but sensitive. The texture reminds me of teenage skin. I've always assumed that's just how my skin is and not due to a particular reason.

I'm hoping to see an improvement when I begin with niacinamide and up the strength of retinol. I do see an improvement immediately after using BHA and my low strength retinol but by the morning the pores look prominent again Confused

JDSTER · 04/06/2018 19:23

Pores on my face too mint. It’s an age thing unfortunately, more obvious on those with oilier skin.

SallieSallow · 04/06/2018 19:24

I have visible pores too, I put it down to oily skin plus ageing. I don't think there is anything you can do to get rid of or 'close' pores unfortunately.

mintmagnummm · 04/06/2018 19:29

Grrrrrr! Good to know I'm not the only one though. Why do some older oily skinned women have lovely smooth skin?? 😏

EnidButton · 04/06/2018 19:50

Mint I think you should stop looking for a couple of days. My skin is the same now as it was when I had dysmorphia, probably 'worse' as I'm 5-6 years older, but it doesn't bother me at all whereas back then it really did. Visible pores were my one of my 'things'. In hindsight they were just normal pores. So I might be projecting, but saying it with love anyway. 💗

Pupsiecola · 04/06/2018 19:56

Pores are more visible as you age because your collagen is receeding/shrinking so the pores look bigger? That's my understanding anyway. Happy to be corrected!

princessbear80 · 04/06/2018 20:27

Thanks Sallie for the feedback on Alpha. You do get all of them. I’m not too sure how to use them either, was hoping someone here might have some ideas. I guess you just use each one as you feel you need it?!
