Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Chester I use Rosette Ceramide Gel which has ceramides etc. Was also recommended Meishoku Ceracolla Perfect Gel (without macadamia oil which is in Rosette, if this is an issue) Both on eBay from Japanese sellers. The Rosette was about £10.

CeraVe products are also good for ceramides. You can get them in Boots now (with the more medicated skin stuff rather than cosmetics) but I've only tried the moisturiser in a tub on my body, not my face.

Sallie yes your probably right!

mintmagnummm · 02/06/2018 07:25

Oooh pupsie that b&b oil sounds lovely! Think you have just encouraged me to buy it you bad bad girl Grin

ThenCameTheFools · 02/06/2018 07:48

Bo- the Pump and Volume is my holy grail, and the only mascara ever (having tried everything from £1.99 -Chanel/Lancome Hypnose blabla) that does for me. I am evangelical about it. My.boss came back from shopping wearing it and I thought she'd had extensions put in during her lunchbreak.

Pupsie-I read the Mo-We-Fri and reached for my pen to note another amazing Korean product!

ChesterBelloc · 02/06/2018 09:06

Thanks Bagel. I (belatedly) checked bo's cheat sheet about repairing the skin barrier, and she also mentions Cerave (the PM lotion - Niacinamide + 3 different ceramides), so I'll check that out in Boots, as I'm too impatient to wait for things from Japan!

botemp · 02/06/2018 09:20

Yes, I usually rec the Cerave PM but I'm not sure if it's finally available in the UK yet or not as it's been promised to arrive since April.

There's a Eucerin Urea cream as well for the body in a giant tub. The Cerave and SkinCeuticals ones are the only ones I know where the manufacturer has confirmed that the 3 ingredients are formulated in the ideal ratio.

Mint, everyone, bar the very dry, wake up with oil on their face. It's why it's recommended to wash your face in the AM.

Sallie, the DHC sounds similar to the eyeko skinny so may just skip that. Thanks for the mini review.

Fools, I take it I should buy two then Wink Do you actually do that pumping gimmick thing? It felt a bit superfluous marketing to me.

Sorry, Sallie, yes the black magic is definitely a tuber but if I wear it on my own during the day the tips of my lashes can leave little dots all over my upper eyelid (??? anatomy clearly not my strong suit Confused).

I'm not a 100% on it but I think all their mascaras are tubers, or you can at least filter it out on their website (which offer really good discounts).

Has anyone tried TBS Vitamin E Cream Cleanser?

I'm potentially looking for something gentle for after TTDO. I use the Cosrx in the morning. I've run out of LRP Toleriane and the Avene Extremely Gentle. I didn't much like the latter. I felt it left a film. I'm a bit bored of the LRP, but I guess that's not reason not to RP. Any other suggestions?

Pupsiecola · 02/06/2018 11:10

Anything from Kiehls?

OllyBJolly · 02/06/2018 11:19

Thank you for the Frezyderm recommendation. Arrived just before my holiday and I used it every day. Not only totally avoided sunburn, the texture of my skin has improved so much. Age spots still there but at least haven't got any worse.

JDSTER · 02/06/2018 13:34

Lots to catch up on and I’ll try and do empties. pupsie I haven’t tried TBS cleanser you mention but LRP toleriane hydrating cleanser is much nicer imo than the toleriane dermo cleanser. I use as second cleanse at night. Only available on-line Bo can probably advise on on line stockists. Mine purchased in US.

botemp · 02/06/2018 13:41

Not a fan of the Kiehl's cleaners, and they're just as boring as the French pharmacy types. Not usually a fan of the Body Shop offerings as they always have fragrance and/or essential oils in them, and even silicones Hmm which just seems like an environmental waste considering their impact that you're directly washing down the drain.

The LRP Toleriane hydrating can be bought from Easy Para Pharmacie, I like it a lot too.

Good to hear the Frezyderm has passed the holiday test, OlllyB.

Bo-I do the 'pump' when the tube is getting empty to fill the wand, otherwise no. I need a new one, must have a scout round and see who's offering codes/freebies!

Pupsiecola · 02/06/2018 14:49

Thanks JDSTER and Bo. Not currently listed on Easy Para Pharmacie but I'll keep looking.

EnidButton · 02/06/2018 14:56

Really like those Olli 😍

Ollivander84 · 02/06/2018 14:57

Enid - they are SO comfy too. I got them in grey and have worn and worn them so went back for a second pair. Easy to wear with jeans at home or my skinny trousers for work

botemp · 02/06/2018 15:13

mintmagnummm · 02/06/2018 16:58

I bought the b&b invisible oil primer hair spray and a lancome shadow stick today 😬🤭

mintmagnummm · 02/06/2018 17:32

My dismorphia is playing up 😪

mintmagnummm · 02/06/2018 18:55

Apologies in advance for a personal question....what do you all use to wash your vag 🤭

EnidButton · 02/06/2018 18:56

Sorry to hear that Mint Flowers Hope you find something to distract you.

EnidButton · 02/06/2018 18:57

Well that was a crossed post and a half! 😯 I didn't mean that kind of distraction. Was thinking more a walk or gardening...

JDSTER · 02/06/2018 19:02

Grin at Enid’s cross post. Err, in answer to your question mint soap! Same as I use everywhere else. Is there a particular reason you’re asking this question Hmm
