Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

bo Thank you, I want to see if the dress I ordered is ok first. It's coming tomorrow. All fingers crossed it is. But any ideas would be welcome. Only if you do have the time though. I am an awkward customer! Please don't go out of your way. Don't want you poorly as well. Flowers I was thinking pencil dress but I think to get one that fits my waist and my bum/chest I'd need it tailored to me so moved away from that now. I like jersey dresses but only must haves are, I have to be able to wear a normal bra with straps, preferably either something that'll cover thighs or something I could wear sheer tights with, nips in at waist, no nude/neutral type colours as they drain me. That's kind of it. I guess nothing totally black either. But honestly don't worry if you can't. Flowers

I need to get my house in order, take some deep breaths and see the bigger picture. This time next week it'll be done.

Thanks Then You're right.

EnidButton · 27/05/2018 17:34

ignores hair

botemp · 27/05/2018 17:46

They're kind of pricey and I know they're much loved on here but would the Bombshell dresses not be a good fit for you, Enid? They have a lot of jersey in loads of colours and should be flattering on an hourglass shape. They have 24hrs and 48hrs shipping available.

Stayingalive, welcome. Check the title, it's our most loved SPF at the moment as it's like wearing nothing, links to the product are at the bottom of the OP, although I believe Chemist Direct also sells it.

Thank you ordered some from Amazon!!! Prime means it arrives tomorrow.

EnidButton · 27/05/2018 18:21

bo I'm not sure. I don't have shoes or a bag either or tights. They look nice but could be tricky to accessorise and get the fit right and I've no time now. I'm at the end of my tether. My funeral dress that Ovthpufht was ok smells of b.o on the shoulders and it's not mine! My shoes don't fit and the tights are too thick. I look stupid.

EnidButton · 27/05/2018 18:21

I'll stop because I'm disrupting the thread. Sorry guys. BrewCake

JDSTER · 27/05/2018 19:10

Enid You’re right, this time next week it will be done. The things you’re worried about now won’t mean much Flowers

Ahem, I know I’m in the absolute minority here but may I state (again) that I do not love frezyderm. I can’t wait to use it up- it makes me oily.

fools good to hear such a glowing report on Vichy Vit C

EnidButton · 27/05/2018 19:13

(I asked for my posts on the previous page to be deleted as they were outing. 🙄)

TantricTwist · 27/05/2018 19:29

Ah yes I wondered why they'd been deleted.

Enid I'm sure you can cobble something together with what you have at home to wear.

In my experience people wear all sorts of ill fitting clothing and shoes to funerals due to the nature of it being so distressing, last minute and not really having the time or inclination to find new items of clothing Flowers
However thinking about what to wear can take your mind off things ❤️

botemp · 27/05/2018 19:34

Your hatred is noted, JDSTER, and will probably be the death of my campaign to get the Frezyderm into the Mumsnet Swears Bys Angry Wink

Incidentally, MNHQ are making a big deal about LRP now in a special post, totally ignoring the Toleriane love on here. They have acknowledged the brilliance of LRP Cicaplast though... as a nappy cream Hmm

OP posts:
mintmagnummm · 27/05/2018 19:37

JDSTER it's usually me who's in the minority! It's weird how people respond differently to things isn't it! It doesn't make me as oily as any other spf I've every used!

mintmagnummm · 27/05/2018 19:39

I'm STILL on the hunt for a shampoo and conditioner!!! Surely there must be ONE ill love!

JDSTER · 27/05/2018 19:56

Bo Grin. I noticed the thing about cicaplast for babies (same formulation so not actually for babies Hmm).

mint it is funny when there’s an ‘outlier’ on here who doesn’t like something every one else swears allegiance to.

TantricTwist · 27/05/2018 19:59

Urgh I have huge skin coloured lumps on my cheek, size of half a pea, which are either from my recent usage of TO Niacinamide / zinc or Neutrogena hydro boost gel - I have a feeling thats why I stopped them both in the first place - I never learn 🙄

mintmagnummm · 27/05/2018 20:47

Tant I don't think my skin likes niacinamide either as anything I've ever used with it in has made my skin irritated! Also I've seen quite a lot of negative reviews for that hydro boost gel.

botemp · 27/05/2018 21:19

JDSTER, I didn't even realise it was about babies until Iater as I clicked on a little pop up thing that just mentioned LRP picks (or I didn't read thoroughly), only saw the title after reading through and was wondering why they were so baby obsessed Blush

I think the 'outlier' thing is quite a strong characteristic across the S&B boards. There's definitely a strong sense of wanting mass consensus on certain threads. People get quite upset if you don't like something they love and vice versa. The strength of the reaction has left me somewhat bemused now and then.

OP posts:
Jozxyqk · 27/05/2018 21:32

Tantric - I reacted very similarly to the TO Niacinamide, with massive sore lumps on my neck. Plus a lot of little spots on my face, which thankfully disappeared within a couple of days. TO Buffet did the same. It takes a few months for the marks to disappear - I'm pale & mark very easily. The marks do generally fade a little more quickly now that I use a vitamin C product though.

TantricTwist · 27/05/2018 22:13

Shock at possibility of marks not disappearing

TantricTwist · 27/05/2018 22:24

Oh god I used TO buffet again as well the other night because my skin was feeling a bit dry

I really to need chuck these items away and stick a post-it on my shelf advising me not to repurchase items.

I've just bioderma'd my face, followed by wash in the sink followed LRP thermal water. Now I'm too scared to put anything else on Confused

Ollivander84 · 27/05/2018 22:28

Adding a recommendation for Cocosa if anyone hasn't used the site before
I got a bargain perfume and a gorgeous merino blanket off there

JDSTER · 27/05/2018 22:42

Looks like I could waste several hours of my life on that website olli

I’ve just placed an online order at LRP. 25% off, 6% cash back on quidco and a free 100ml body wash. I’m trying the facial spray spf to use for top ups.

TantricTwist · 27/05/2018 22:57

This is simply not helping my spot dilemma Grin

I've applied Alpha H eye gel and I feel like I've just had a face lift.

Pupsiecola · 28/05/2018 00:15

Mint have you tried Hask hair products from Superdrug? I can't remember if I read about them here, or online elsewhere. They came highly recommended anyway. Also, is it worth trying the LRP Vit C? I find it very moisturising, to the point that I don't need anything else in the mornings. (Which annoys me, as I want to! I am looking forward to getting some more DE Vit C!). Check with Bo - she may advise against the LRP for you.
