Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Thank you Sophie have you tried the one that Sallie has linked to? Thanks for that Sallie, u say ur not sweaty though so I don't suppose you know if it's really effective for that?

JDSTER I'm glad I humour you 🤪

Can anyone recommend a teeth whitening treatment for me please? My teeth aren't stained as such, they're just naturally not very white. Kind of a creamy colour. I think I'd rather a gel or similar if possible - definitely not anything abrasive. Thanks.

Ollivander84 · 26/05/2018 21:09

I used zoom from my dentist, trays and gel Smile

TantricTwist · 27/05/2018 01:47

A trip to the hygienist does wonders for whitening your teeth. I have used crest whitening strips a few times.

mintmagnummm · 27/05/2018 07:48

Do all of you on here use a vit c in the mornings? I feel like I'm missing out 😏

Jozxyqk · 27/05/2018 07:49

I've considered those, Tantric, but I read that the Crest strips can cause a lot of if sensitivity though. I have an NHS dentist now & they don't do hygienist appointments unless medically necessary (which I don't, I have great teeth, not even any fillings & I brush well so no plaque either). My only slight teeth issue is sensitivity, I don't want to make it worse. It's just vanity - they are just naturally a cream colour rather than nicely white. I don't drink red wine, or smoke, quit drinking tea a few years ago as it tastes weird, & have 1-2 coffees a day, maximum.

I will ask about the Zoom stuff, thanks Ollivander.

Mint - I use the TO vitamin C, but TBH it's a bit gritty & stings slightly on first application. I dread to think what it would feel like with dry skin - I can really feel if I have a spot or anything - ouch! It doesn't get better with repeated use either- I've been using it several months & it still does it. I'd like a different brand when my supply runs out, TBH. The only thing I like about it, is the price. It did make see how much more quickly my skin heals & post blemish marks disappear, so I'm glad I got it. I've been looking at the Melano CC, available from Japan, but not sure if anyone has any other / better suggestions.

botemp · 27/05/2018 08:15

Good to to hear it was just a pre-appointment panic, Enid and the appointment itself went as well as it can. I thought you'd already ordered the bare minerals bronzer?

Joz, I have sensitive teeth (actually it would probably be easier to list parts of my body that are not sensitive) and I've used the crest strips but I only used half a cure and every 2-3 days and it was fine. I did accidentally do it twice in a row (days) and that really did sensitise my teeth temporarily but no lasting impact.

bo I didn't get round to it. I forgot and went on to dresses instead. Still looking, I like a few of the ones on your list thank you. Can go in a Phase Eight today to look at those. (Discovered I really suit navy during all this anyway.) My fringe needs fixing but it looks like an easy fix once I show them. Not this week though.

I've used crest strips from USA before. They are very good but made my front teeth very very sensitive. The sensitivity went after 2 weeks ish but it's put me off them a bit.

EnidButton · 27/05/2018 10:50

I might have done them every night. Every other day would be better.

ThenCameTheFools · 27/05/2018 10:53

I am using the Vichy Vit C as recommended by Botemp- I am in love. I have only been using it for about 8 days and can see such a difference. My skin is glowing. It's the only new thing in my routine so far. I threw my Ordinary Vit C away. It felt like the hideous Aapri scrub on my face for anyone old enough to remember.

I am so impressed with the Vichy. Flowers to Botemp for (yet another) wonderful recommendation!

SophieLion · 27/05/2018 11:15

Joz, I also did the whitening a year or so ago with my Dentist. Trays and a some solution and you have to keep it on for 4 consecutive hours every day for something like two weeks. Most people do it at night and sleep through it.

Mint, I was also using the Vichy vit C in the mornings.

SophieLion · 27/05/2018 12:00

Enid, good luck with the dress hunting and glad the hair (fixable fringe aside) is looking good Thanks

mintmagnummm · 27/05/2018 15:50

Does the Vichy one not last long though?? Sure I remember thinking it's not cost effective??

Eucerin 5% urea face cream has changed packaging, saw new box today. I know I'm sad but I really like it lol

Flowers Enid, can you just skip the wedding and take the pressure of off that? After the funeral I was both emotionally and physically depleted, it all sort of came over me at once, I wouldn't have been up with any sort of social occasion. You may want the distraction though, is there a personal shopping service near you by any chance?

mint, vitamin c is tricky with you, the L-AA form is quite sensitising/irritating and going by your reaction to BHA I'm hesitant to recommend you to try that. The derivatives would be a better choice but they're usually in silicone or oil carriers, so again not all that useful for you.

Glad to hear you like it and it's working so well for you Fools, are you keeping it in the fridge as well? I have to say I've been very impressed with Vichy's newest releases, they've really upped their game.

I'll be happy to look for some wedding dresses if you like, I'll have the time tonight do you have a preference of colours and max budget? You were thinking cocktail dresses, right?

Everything is tricky with me bo 😂. Is the Vichy one L-AA?

ThenCameTheFools · 27/05/2018 17:06

Oh, no I wasn't, Bo, I shall rectify at once! I am even thinking I may go bb/tinted moisturiser rather than foundation soon!

Flowers Enid, be gentle with yourself.

Hi folks a serious newbie here! I don't use much on my face at all and I hate the feel of heavy creams. I am lucky to have good skin and want to protect it. I have used a facial sun protection spray but i don't like the almost greasy texture it leaves. Any recommendations for a gel or light cream spf for my face. My skin is normal to combination.
