Haircut disaster. Gutted

I went in with lots of pictures, told her I wanted a long pixie that I could push over my ears, like Emma Willis. She seemed to understand and even said she would do it a bit longer than my photos as it would feel too short for me otherwise (my hair was past my shoulders).

I've ended up with it cut over my ears which I didn't want, and really short at the back. I hate it so much. I look more like Bruce Willis than Emma. I told her it is too short and she said it had to be short over my ears or it would be too bulky (so why didn't she say so before she cut it?) and I should go back in a few days if I still don't like it. Why? Is she going to glue it back on?

Why do hairdressers do this? I have a thin scarf tied round my head at the moment. Is there anything else I can do to disguise it or make it grow quicker Sad

Your hair looks really lovely in that picture you wally! Glad you're getting to grips with products and embracing it. You look great, you have amazing skin. Get yourself out and about and rock your new do.

BlancheM · 26/04/2018 10:39

Looking good!

Littlechocola · 26/04/2018 10:58

I love it.
My family paid for me to have my hair done when my dc were tiny. It was supposed to be my first proper treat since having dc. I had pnd and wasn’t looking after myself.
I asked for a straight forward bob thinking it was a get up and go style that I could manage.
They gave me a pixie cut. I really don’t have the features! I walked out and straight into the chemist next door and purchased waxes, sprays, clips. Sadly bumped into someone I knew who helpfully asked wtf have you done to your hair!

Luckily I found two hairdressers that I adore and who have saved me from drunken cuts when I suddenly forget that I’m not a hairdresser!

eggsandchips · 26/04/2018 22:28

Bloody hell you have worked wonders OP. It looks great! And it will grow back soon enough. At least it's not a permanent alteration if you can't get used to it even though you have made it look good!

Highfever · 26/04/2018 22:40

OP last week my beautiful long hair was butchered into the worst hair cut ever. I've had to go shorter than yours to repair it. Truely devasted. You have my sympathy.

TheLastNigel · 27/04/2018 07:02

Looks good now OP!

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 27/04/2018 10:02

Thank you all Smile

I met with the salon owner last night. He was so lovely and took me in a private room, kept offering drinks, had googled styles I might like as it grows out, apologised profusely - really couldn't do enough to try to make me feel better. I was pleased he didn't minimise my distress. He said it has been upsetting for him and the stylist too, which made me feel bad!

He said he had considered giving me extensions but decided they would be unsuitable and difficult for me to manage. I had already come to that conclusion so wasn't disappointed. He wanted to 'tweak' it with scissors but I couldn't bring myself to let him, even though I do feel I could trust him to cut it in future. He offered to wash and blow dry my hair free once a week while it grows out, which was kind but I didn't take him up on as it would mean my DH having to take me and wait as I don't drive, plus I don't have enough hair to benefit from a blow dry. I'm not really a fan of hairdresser blow dries anyway and usually ask them to leave it damp and go home and dry it myself.

He gave me my money back and also a bag full of lovely salon products for curly hair, including salt spray which I wanted to try anyway. I am going to go back in six weeks or so and let him tweak the top a bit and have a shampoo and blow dry then. They do nice head massages with the conditioner so I will look forward to that! Actually I could have asked if I could just pop in for a head massage once a week instead...Grin

All in all a satisfying outcome. Thanks again to all of you for helping me through this week Thanks

I will update this thread with pictures as my hair grows out. Hopefully I will have a nice style in 6-8 weeks, that's what he thinks.

That all sounds positive. In six weeks it will look so different. And may well be pretty much what you wanted.

Not letting tweak it was probably right. You are getting used to it and whilst you’ll prob never love it now you will learn how to manage it. And it will grow.

He sounds nice and professional. How people and business deal with unhappy customers or customer’s problems is so important.

soggydigestive · 27/04/2018 11:54

OP you have handled this brilliantly and I'm glad things are feeling better already Flowers

Littlechocola · 27/04/2018 12:02

He sounds lovely op!

trigger2 · 27/04/2018 12:07

Glad it went well and you’re feeling better OP. I know it’s not what you wanted but give it a couple of months and hopefully round your ears will have grown and be looking a little more like you wanted. Enjoy the products !

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 27/04/2018 12:08

Well done for returning and giving them the chance to put things right. I don't like confrontation either.
Fair play to the salon owner, he went to some trouble to ensure you left on good terms.

Chicinwellies · 27/04/2018 22:41

Some hairdressers should be ‘struck off’, like GPS. Creative licence is one thing, just not looking and thinking about skeletal differences of what the picture one presents and asks for a replica of , to what you’re Actually going to look like, is another. That is the service we pay for surely. Emma Willis is stunningly beautiful and would look good with a turquoise Mohawk.

myrtleWilson · 27/04/2018 22:54

Ah - am so glad that the owner was so customer focused - that must have restored some faith in the salon for you (if not necessarily in the stylist who did the original cut). The most recent photo you've posted is tonnes better than the immediate "after" ones - am sure that in six weeks you'll be well on your way to haircut happiness.

GlitterGlue · 28/04/2018 12:54

I'm glad you're feeling better about it. I hope the weather improves so the sunshine helps it grow - a whiff of vitamin d and mine grows like mad.

I too have multiple hair disaster tales. The worst was possibly the time a new hairdresser cut very short layers on top. It curled up so I had Nana curls on top and long, straightish sides.

3luckystars · 28/04/2018 13:11

The thing with all those pictures is that they are REALLY STYLED
Your hair looks just like you just washed it and have no products in it.

I think you short hair takes a lot of work and if you just put loads of products and style your hair it could totally look like one of those photos!

I hope you are feeling a lot better now and sorry I am late to the party.

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 28/04/2018 15:10

The salon owner handled this debacle very well. And, I think your hair looks nice. It’s curly and shiney and bouncy and yes, it WILL grow 😊

GhostCurry · 29/04/2018 06:56

Gosh, your hair texture and colour are stunning.
Glad you had such a good meeting with the salon owner. Could be the start of a very positive hairdresser relationship!

saoirse31 · 29/04/2018 08:07

Hair looks great in latest photo op, but on complete tangent I'd be mildly concerned about you saying you didn't leave house for a week because of bad haircut... But poss you were joking anyway.

Best of luck, salon owner sounds v good

Bouledeneige · 29/04/2018 10:30

I'm sorry for your experience - I've had bad ones in the past and its really upsetting. I make sure now I go to a good salon with skills. You should definitely get your money back as she made a mistake and did not do what you wanted.

But I really think it looks fine. Its not so short its shocking! I dont really understand why you are are so freaked out - its not like she gave you a buzz cut or anything. I think you will look odder with hats on.... (I' sorry that just sounds a bit weird - why are you doing that?). Or hairbands. Just muss it up a bit and it will grow. And focus on the makeup and some nice funky dangly earrings (if you have pierced ears).

CurlyhairedAssassin · 29/04/2018 10:42

Your hair is quite curly, isn’t it? I don’t think there is any curl in Emma Willis’ hair, maybe that was why it has turned out so different.

You have lovely hair and it will grow fast so try and not let it bother you too much. Put it down to experience!

spiderlight · 30/04/2018 11:09

Glad the salon owner was so lovely. It will look great in a few weeks.
