Haircut disaster. Gutted

I went in with lots of pictures, told her I wanted a long pixie that I could push over my ears, like Emma Willis. She seemed to understand and even said she would do it a bit longer than my photos as it would feel too short for me otherwise (my hair was past my shoulders).

I've ended up with it cut over my ears which I didn't want, and really short at the back. I hate it so much. I look more like Bruce Willis than Emma. I told her it is too short and she said it had to be short over my ears or it would be too bulky (so why didn't she say so before she cut it?) and I should go back in a few days if I still don't like it. Why? Is she going to glue it back on?

Why do hairdressers do this? I have a thin scarf tied round my head at the moment. Is there anything else I can do to disguise it or make it grow quicker Sad

Your hair looks very big and bouncy for that type of pixie cut, I can see what she meant about a mushroom. You’d have thought she would have realised this though.

DalmatianSpring · 21/04/2018 13:27

I know it’s horrible to have a bad haircut. I had a Mum bob recently when what I was looking for was Parisiene chic. However I do think your reaction is disproportionate, and if you go in saying you want money towards root grow stuff etc, they may just dismiss you.

BlancheM · 21/04/2018 13:30

:( I think the Lee Stafford stuff is really good (I use the mask in the tub, not the whole range). Extensions would be counterproductive, they require a lot of maintenance and leave the hair in bad condition more often than not.

whattheactualbleep · 21/04/2018 21:02

Extensions only leave hair in bad condition if not put in properly.

And need a lot of upkeep and regular 6 weekly checks etc.
Also wouldn't be able to have them in hair your length and anyone that says they'll do it for you are not very good and I'd run a mile.

Colour to refresh it and give it texture and a good play around with it and it will grow soon enough
Give it a few weeks and it will soften around the ears much more

saison4 · 22/04/2018 08:24

give it a few weeks and then have another think.

tbh, from your pictures it appears that your hair structure/thickness/volume doesn't really go with the cut you asked (unless you don't mind straightening & styling every morning). let it grow out and look for something which is closer to your own hair and should be easier to replicate. But totally agree, the hairdresser shouldn't just have cut it like that. even though it looks ok. not stunning but it is totally fine - just not what you wanted. Smile

Chicinwellies · 22/04/2018 08:33

I also went for the demi Moore ghost cut, only problem being 1)no other part of me vaguely remembled Demi moore and 2) the hairdresser got it totally wrong! I guess it’s just one of those things. Try really hard to put it into perspective when it gets you down, it’s only hair, treat youselfnto something like some gorgeous earrings or lash lift or something that will help distract you from the chop. And whether your dh does work for the salon or not, get your money back. She didn’t do what you asked, and you’re not happy with it.

SukiTheDog · 22/04/2018 08:52

This is what I asked for....the very lovely Flavia Cacace.

I got Dumb and Dumber. And no, it wasn’t just me, everyone said “definitely Jim Carey!”

It’s definitely not the cut you asked for OP but there’s nothing wrong with your ears. It’s totally fine. You’ll look a lot more.. err... unusual wearing a scarf tied over your ears in all situations.

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 22/04/2018 14:09

I have had a kind reply from the owner. He didn't say she'd done anything wrong but he said he wants all their customers to be happy with their hair and I'm obviously not so he wants to put it right. He's asked me to go in one day to have a chat with him in a private room (I'm glad about that- I'd be so embarrassed otherwise to get my head out). I don't know what he can do really, but I hope so much he offers extensions.

I know it's ridiculous but I can't bear to uncover my hair at the sides and back, I feel naked and ugly. I won't even let DH look Sad

CiderwithBuda · 22/04/2018 14:29

I really don’t think he will offer extensions. They are really expensive. They might not even do them. Not everywhere does. And your might be too short. Don’t get your hopes up that that might be what is offered.

He might offer a colour or to try to fix the cut somehow. But it will be hard as it is short anyway.

I think (with all kindness) - it is not nearly as bad as you think. Yes it’s short. But it’s not horrible. It’s not worth getting into such a state you ant even let your DH see it.

Have you tried any products yet? Drying it differently?

Frazzled2207 · 22/04/2018 14:31

Result. I don't think it's what you asked for but I think it's probably improvable without cutting too much more off, though I think a shorter back would help.

I think "pixie" to me, however, means cut short round the ears to expose them. Perhaps that was the hairdresser's understanding too? (Although nothing like the pictures, still).

BlancheM · 22/04/2018 14:39

Hair extensions are unlikely unless they're a salon which specialises in them.
I think you've built this up to be worse than it is- you asked for a crop initially, so were prepared to go short, even if the style itself wasn't what you were expecting. Have you tried styling it? It will look completely different when you do. Brace yourself and get out into the nice weather, it can be a bit daunting going out with a new haircut at the best of times but once you've done it you'll feel better.

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 22/04/2018 14:40

I have tried putting the Bed Head stuff recommended upthread through it but it has no effect on the bits I hate - above the ears and the back - because it's too short there. I just want to cover that area up.

I'm not letting him cut any more off it, no way. I don't want a colour, I had wanted highlights but think it would look daft just in the bit on top of my head. If he can't do extensions then I suppose I would accept a refund and maybe highlights in a few months when it's long enough.

There is nothing to style!

Would you feel less frumpy and mumsy if you bleached the whole platinum or went for a really bright block colour?

Your ears are fine, btw. They appear to be perfectly normal ears to me. I also don't think the cut is bad, it's not what you asked for but it's not a bad cut. There's no reason to hide it other than your own confidence.

Frazzled2207 · 22/04/2018 14:49

If you really won't let him cut more off I would suggest you ask for styling ideas which I think could make the world of difference

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 22/04/2018 14:58

I don't mind my ears, by the way. I am used to having them out as I usually wore my hair up. I was just answering a pp who said they were pretty, as they're not particularly. Smile

OP posts:
BlancheM · 22/04/2018 15:03

There's plenty to style there. Short hair requires much more styling than longer hair, which you could get away with just washing and drying and then pretty much leaving it.

CiderwithBuda · 22/04/2018 15:06

It will just take time for those bits to grow unfortunately. The back and above the ears that is. An all over colour might help and chopping into the top a little to make it look choppier and more textured. Nice earrings and a bright lipstick.

user1471456357 · 22/04/2018 15:16

Honestly it’s not nearly as bad as you think, but I know that’s easy for others to say.
I think by the time you wash it over the next while it will start to drop down a bit. I have had good results in hair growth with Phillip Kingsley supplements, they have them on offer at qvc, atm, it’s the pk4 type I take.

SheldonCooper77 · 22/04/2018 15:16

It's far too short for extensions, I think a little extra shaping cut in and it will like fine.

crazycatgal · 22/04/2018 15:23

Your hair is just too short to have extensions, you won't be offered them.

Hopefully you will get a refund and a couple of styling products.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 23/04/2018 10:49

Glad the salon owner has responded and hope he can suggest something.

DalmatianSpring · 23/04/2018 11:06

I think you’re being really unreasonable asking for extensions for something that will take a matter of weeks to grow out.

SukiTheDog · 23/04/2018 11:40

I think, when you’re in the middle of experiencing a bad haircut, anything and everything springs to mind in terms of what can be done so, OP is thinking extensions/hats/scarves etc. Fact is, it has to grow. End of. And the absolute most she can hope for is that it’ll grow quickly and she gets a refund.

I know how she feels.
