Is anyone wearing wide leg trousers yet?

I have seen them in the magazines and everyone on the voice was wearing them on the weekend, including Emma Willis, but I haven’t seen anyone in real life wearing them.

Meant to add, I’m not sure if they will suit me as I am small and they will swamp my shape so wondering if they will catch on.

Still in my skinny jeans which I have been wearing for years now.

I'm stockpiling skinnies , because fashion (as opposed to style) is very narrow/rigid. Cyclical sells.

I hate this look - legs are meant to taper and adding width lower down make me too far too fat solid.

DD is however hankering after wider leg leggings, and there are quite a lot on the sites she looks at,, so I have a nasty feeling they might start appearing in spring (as people put their boots away - if you've spent a small fortune on lovely boots, you'll want people to see them)

Yes the new style trousers are literally down to the floor.

how on earth do wide leg leggings work? surely they're not leggings anymore then?

personally I find wide legs more flattering on my shape. This last several years have been a mare for me with the prevalence of skinny legs.

soupforbrains · 21/03/2018 08:10

but no, I've not seen anyone in real life wearing them.

Mumsnut · 21/03/2018 08:26

I have been wearing them.

Floisme · 21/03/2018 08:59

Not yet but as soon as the weather improves. Bloody love them.

I'm 5'3 and my legs look shortest in skinnies.

niceupthedance · 21/03/2018 09:09

I have two pairs I wear to work they are super wide 😎

picklemepopcorn · 21/03/2018 09:21

Wide legs work on me! I have thick knees, thick ankles, thick thighs. Not in that order, though.

OCSockOrphanage · 21/03/2018 09:24

I shall be wearing them when mine come back from having the fit tweaked, but I've got a summer pair of thin cotton trousers I've been wearing to death for two years already. Much more comfortable in hot weather and I am looking forward to some of that but I've never particularly liked skinnies.

BalloonFlowers · 21/03/2018 09:24

What?? Am I ahead of the fashion curve? Yes, wide legged trousers all year round here. Only way to get something that goes over my thighs Blush

Ididnthearanything · 21/03/2018 09:28

Love them here too. Yes, wearing them since last year. They are a godsend for my shape.

WhatsItAllAbout123 · 21/03/2018 09:37

I have a few different pairs and have had mine for years, I never stopped wearing them. But they suit my frame (5'10", slim size 12, stupidly long legs, stupidly short body) unlike skinnies which just make my legs look longer and make my body look shorter.

I work with teenagers and the girls are starting to wear them now the weather is getting better. (I think the high street ones are currently more the spring / summer weight fabrics). They don't seem to be on board with the bootcut jeans yet, they seem to prefer the Levi 501 style jeans.

whiteonesugar · 21/03/2018 10:24

I've just ordered a lovely pair of cropped ones from Jaeger for £19!!! I like them in summer for work with sandals or weekends with trainers. But not the long ones they swamp me.

squoosh · 21/03/2018 10:40

I haven’t seen anyone wearing them in the wild yet but I love the sound of them! What I don’t love are those wide legged cropped trousers that have been around for the past year or so. The hem seems to stop at the widest part of a person’s calf and they just look so unflattering.

teta · 21/03/2018 11:05

I have some lightweight Jigsaw culottes and some Eileen Fisher silk ones that on 5ft 3 me are more trousers than culottes. Because they are pretty voluminous they look rather more like Maxis on.Do I take them up to 2 inches above the ankle or do I keep as trouser length?
Sorry absolutely no help with the op but this conundrum is really bothering me 😁

Coconutspongexo · 21/03/2018 11:08

I wear them regularly got a few pairs from Zara and H&M!

expatmigrant · 21/03/2018 11:21

I've also had a black pair from Zara for over a year now, but have only ever worn them with ankle boots. I'm 5'2 so they are quite long on me. Also have wide leg jeans from Whistles. I'll probably end up getting another pair for summer. I'm a sucker for a new trend and tend to go to pinterest for style ideas.

MarkBorrigan · 21/03/2018 11:31

I just bought some yesterday for work, they're black and white vertical stripes. They're quite quirky and comfy! Lots of women where I live seem to still be wearing cut off pleated trousers, you know the black/silver/grey crinkly culotte style ones.

MaudlinMews · 21/03/2018 11:49

God no. Unless you're tall and thin they don't do you any favours. I have thin legs so like to show them off. If I wore wide leg trousers I'd just be wide all the way down. I've also had incidents in the past where I've got my feet caught in the hems and tripped, then there's the rain and puddles to contend with. I hate walking around with wet hems which happened the last time this trend was in during the 90s.

sinceyouask · 21/03/2018 11:51

Yes, since about this time last year when I bought a lovely pair of high waisted wide leg trousers in Sainsbury's. I love them.

StickStickStickStick · 21/03/2018 11:52

I think skinnys only suit thin people so I'm Happy! (Not thin!(

DairyisClosed · 21/03/2018 11:52

This is old news surely? Even wide a day cropped is a bit of over now.

Ellapaella · 21/03/2018 14:49

I've seen loads of people in wide leg trousers - for several months. I'm looking for a decent pair of black ones myself.

Sweetheart · 21/03/2018 16:21

I brought a pair a couple of months ago and have worn them on 4 nights out so far. I really love them. I am a pear shape so everything on me from the waist down is pretty chunky - the wide leg skims over all that.

I stick to very fitted or even cropped style tops when I'm wearing them (they are also high waisted) and wear them with heals to make my legs look longer.

Skinnies for me always look like sausages rammed in their skins so I'm loving the wide leg look.
