Is anyone wearing wide leg trousers yet?

I have seen them in the magazines and everyone on the voice was wearing them on the weekend, including Emma Willis, but I haven’t seen anyone in real life wearing them.

I agree that we get used to seeing things as the norm..

When skinny jeans first started becoming popular I remember trying on a pair (back when I was a size 10-12) and thinking how ridiculous I looked and that my legs / hips looked like a couple of parsnips. 15 years on I now wear them ALL the time and I think they look fine and fashionable, even though I am now 37 and a size 14. I think they’ve become so normal we are just used to them. Maybe wide legs just seem odd because we haven’t worn them for ages?!

SukiTheDog · 22/03/2018 08:13

I think they look amazing on certain people. On me, though very comfy, they make me look like a cube as I’m not tall and slightly rotund. So no, I won’t be wearing and have donated mine from a couple of years ago (nice linen ones in pale natural colours) to charity.

On a different note, op.... wear what you want!

Trills · 22/03/2018 08:19

So you agree with ME then Floisme :o

papayasareyum · 22/03/2018 08:19

no, I won’t be wearing them. The rest of me isn’t svelte or slim, but I do have slim legs. Wide legged trousers hide the shape, so I’ll stick to my slim fit for now..

Floisme · 22/03/2018 08:20

Yes I agreed with everything you said Trills - you just type faster than me Grin

pinkpeter · 22/03/2018 09:20

Anyone got any pics?

MarkBorrigan · 22/03/2018 11:00

These are mine. How do they look?

Sweetheart · 22/03/2018 12:05

this and this are my wide leg trouser inspiration Grin

squoosh · 22/03/2018 12:57

They’re both nice examples but I don’t like when the trouser hem completely conceals the shoes.

SpeckleDust · 22/03/2018 13:05

Noooooooo!

I have tried them on on many occasions but all I see in the mirror is this:

I have a navy tailored pair of slouch trousers from Next. I wear them with Stan Smiths and a denim jacket.
Its great to be able to put my hands in pockets again.

Tanaqui · 22/03/2018 13:24

You have amazing hair Mark! But I think the trousers might look better with a clumpy heel?

MarkBorrigan · 22/03/2018 13:32

@Tanaqui Thank you! Smile

Yes, I think so too. I'm in bare feet in the pic, I'm going to roll them up a little bit. They're for work.

CointreauVersial · 22/03/2018 17:07

@Rollerbird - The length of the M&S trousers/culottes is a perfect "cropped" length on me, well above the ankles. No idea what my inside leg measurement is, but I'm 5'7", and tend to wear regular or tall trousers. Some of the reviews seem to suggest they are too long/ankle length, but only if you are a real shorty, I'd say.

AnnaNimmity · 22/03/2018 17:48

Yes I do - I wear them with white trainers (Stan Smiths or Vega), a tight top or cashmere jumper (or white tee shirt in summer).

Phoebe Philo is my ideal look see here

i'm quite tall and find it hard to find them long enough - but have some from Next and a couple of pairs from Me and Em (they seem to make them very long)

Trills · 22/03/2018 21:56

If cropped wide-leg trousers count then they were everywhere last summer, and my very stylish colleague was wearing them the summer before that (when they looked very unusual!), so in that case I definitely don't know what the "yet" in the title is about.

Judydreamsofhorses · 22/03/2018 22:36

I have loads of cropped wide-legs trousers. I wear them in summer with bare ankles and white Stan Smiths, just now with crocheted tights underneath and either brogues or black Stan Smiths. Like previous posters I think the trick is to wear something fitted/tucked in - just now I wear a lot of fine-knit crew-neck jumpers which are slightly cropped,so just sit on the waistband. I’m 5ft 6, and a size 10 - small waist and flat stomach, but big hips and arse. Mine are from various places - Warehouse, Whistles, Topshop, Urban Outfitters, &OtherStories.

BubblesBuddy · 22/03/2018 23:18

Wide trousers were everywhere last summer. They are not new for this summer. I think they are comfortable but suit taller women.

Minus1 · 23/03/2018 01:08

I don’t mean the short cropped ones. The ones they were wearing on the voice were voluminous and literally to the floor where you couldn’t see the shoes.

Almahart · 23/03/2018 08:17

I’ve got some Uniqlo ones very like Contreau’s M&S ones but have no idea what to wear on my feet

Stan smiths abs socks don’t work for me

Can you do ankle boots?

MarkleAndSpencer · 23/03/2018 08:26

I just got a pair of huge, long navy ones from Finery London via TK Maxx. Think I need white trainers to wear with them, although wondering if I might get away with a pair of pale toms instead. Think I'll wait for the weather to settle down a bit because they'll soaked to the knee is there's any rain!

SingaSong12 · 23/03/2018 08:30

No - they don't look very good on me, but more important I'm clumsy - I'll just trip over them. I'll have another look, though - I'm always up to relearn my lessons.

user1483387154 · 23/03/2018 08:32

I have worn ONLY wide leg trousers for the last 20 years..... finally I am fashionable :D

UrsulaPandress · 23/03/2018 08:37

I've been wearing wide legged linen trousers in summer for years.

I did manage to break my big toe by getting it caught in the hem so I advise caution.

CointreauVersial · 23/03/2018 08:37

@Almahart - I wear mine with trainers (no socks), loafers, sandals or heeled pumps. Not sure ankle boots work with that particular pair.
