Is anyone wearing wide leg trousers yet?

I have seen them in the magazines and everyone on the voice was wearing them on the weekend, including Emma Willis, but I haven’t seen anyone in real life wearing them.

Op do you mean the Victoria Beckham look?
I have no arse or hips, and a flabby middle. Skinnies and layering tops has been a godsend to me, I am tall with long legs.
I used to wear fitted black wide leg trousers ages ago when i had a bit more of a waist, I had a beautiful heavy pair from Kookai which I’ve still got.

What shoes is everyone wearing apart from trainers?

RickOShay · 24/03/2018 11:14

I used to wear kitten heels I think

Snorkpod · 24/03/2018 11:14

Wohoo! Wide leg trousers for the win! I hate skinnies or tapers. I look like a parsnip.

Then again, the last few times people have got my hopes up by saying wide legs are available, I've only ever been able to find very slightly loose straight legs which are not the same.

So where can one find actual wide legs?

Snorkpod · 24/03/2018 11:14

I mean wide leg trousers . I alreasy have wide legs.

Floisme · 24/03/2018 11:15

I'm 5'3 and I think skinnies make my legs look shortest of all. Now all things considered, my legs are quite decent but they're still short, heavy on the thigh and topped by an arse that sinks a little more with every passing year. With skinnies - as some posters have already said - there's no way of disguising any of that. They just outline my legs exactly as they are. I prefer clothes that let me play around with my shape.

The beauty of widelegs is that they're not all the same. Yes there are some that make me look short and wide but equally there are some that give the illusion of a tiny waist and (without heels) longer legs - because they disguise where my arse ends and my legs begin. To find the right pair, I have to shop around. I get that some people find that tiresome but, for me, it's part of the enjoyment.

Having a heart attack here... high waisted too?!?!

My favourite look ever!!! I'm going to have to stock up while I can. Yes the exclamation marks are necessary.

I haven't been able to find any proper wide leg (not cropped wide leg) for so long.

Personally I think you have to be careful not to look like a 90s girl band reject with tight qnd/or cropped tops and wide legs (unless that's the look you love, in which case enjoy). I like the land girl look so high waisted wide legs are perfect.

Snorkpod · 24/03/2018 11:32

Length is important and I think a lot of people will need them adjusting. If they trail behind you, they are too long. At 5'3" every pair of trousers I buy need adjusting.

Curious about shoes (not trainers) too. I'd imagine reasonably clunky would work.

Floisme · 24/03/2018 11:41

I'm a huge fan of high waisted - not with a narrow leg as they make my arse look bigger - but def on wider leg.

I'm also a firm believer in keeping and recycling clothes but sadly the wide legs I kept from the 90s/noughties don't cut it as they're so low waisted (how uncomfortable was that!) and also because they're wide and flared whereas I like a wide leg that's either straight or tapers slightly towards the ankle. (Yup - the ones Trinny and Susannah despised.) I think to find them, you have to go back to the 80s and unfortunately none of mine survived the house moves.

The ones Emma Willis were wearing (can’t find a pic) were loose all the way down to the floor and not that flattering considering she is tall and a model whereas I am 5’4’’ and small framed.

Just seen a pic of Victoria Beckham in an orange pair and they do not suit her at all.

I think they are flattering if fitted on the waist and hips but the huge billowing version not so much.

Floisme, you sound as if we have a same shape, i just brought my first pair of wide legs trousers at 5ft 3in like you, where should they fall in lenght, i want to wear in summer with flats. i have tried so many cropped styles, they just don't suit me, make me look even shorter.

ProjectGainsborough · 24/03/2018 22:10

Oh god, I had the most flattering heavy weight pair from Kookai in the 90s. I still mourn they died.

It’s interesting that those who have dug old pairs out of storage are finding them better quality.

I’m 5’7, pear shaped and have bought a couple of pairs from Max Mara and dying to wear them - as soon as the weather lets me.

RickOShay · 25/03/2018 07:13

Project I wonder if they are the same ones Grin
You can borrow mine!

Floisme · 25/03/2018 10:13

lindyloo from what I've seen the two most current lengths are either ultra long or cropped. I do like cropped myself but I'm very fussy and they have to end at the top of my ankle bone, i.e. the thinnest part of my leg. I've heard taller women saying it feels too much like wearing trousers that are too short but that's not a problem I've ever had and I doubt you have either. Smile What I really dislike is mid calf length.

I imagine most sensible people will interpret ultra long as 'pooling' onto the shoe (whereas the last time around they were supposed to just brush the top). I've kept away from it so far - probably for the same reason that tall people shy away from ankle length. The celebs seem to be going all out for trailing-on-the-floor length but I assume they get driven everywhere so don't have to worry about puddles or dog shit.

lindyloo57 · 25/03/2018 16:41

floisme, i agree just above the ankle is best for us shorties, i hate mid calf too, i think its ok if you are tall,
