Is anyone wearing wide leg trousers yet?

I have seen them in the magazines and everyone on the voice was wearing them on the weekend, including Emma Willis, but I haven’t seen anyone in real life wearing them.

I've been wearing wide leg/slouchy trousers for work for a while now - really nice, as Sweetheart says, with a slim fitting top.

And I'm really liking the cropped/culotte style that's around at the moment. In fact, I'm wearing these right now!

Sitranced · 21/03/2018 17:00

Haven't stopped wearing them in the last decade. They suit me and my shape and I love them. I'm just glad they come back around every now and again so I can stock up on various pairs.

FlorenceLyons · 21/03/2018 17:02

They're a staple for me too. Love them with a slim fitting top.

lindyloo57 · 21/03/2018 19:51

i have just brought my first pair from h&m black and white striped, at 5ft 3 they come just an inch above my ankle, is this the right length.

mamaduckbone · 21/03/2018 19:56

Yeay...I’m in fashion again! Never stopped wearing them for work - they’re comfy and flattering for my shape. I do have skinnies but really don’t like myself in them much.

Tanaqui · 21/03/2018 20:02

I’m not great with a true wide leg (Katherine Hepburn style from the top), but love a proper straight leg (not the current style sold as straight leg that is quite heavily tapered), or a small boot cut/ flare if I have a bit of a heel. I have short legs with big thighs and skinnies do that sausage thing in them (weirdly I think I look fine in leggings, but haven’t worn them except to the gym for years!).

It may be biased because of what suits me, but I don’t think skinnies suit very many people! And also it will be nice to have a change of tops and shoes- “floaty” tops look good with skinnies, but not (imo) with wide legs, so it’ll be nice to see something different in the shops.

I need to build my collection of wide leg trews and would love to see some links to wide legs you recommend.

CointreauVersial I have those trousers too.! They’re great aren’t they? I am seriously considering buying a second pair...

goose1964 · 21/03/2018 22:46

I'll get some with my birthday money ,I tend to live in yoga pants for comfort but my previous wide trousers are still wearable for very casual events only . I saw some lovely ones in M&Co

rainydogday · 21/03/2018 22:53

I like the long length wide leg but the cropped wide trousers give me nightmares of my teenage years! I am tall and could never get long enough boot leg flares.....this is what they remind me of Wink

Rollerbird · 21/03/2018 22:55

Cointreau - how do you find the length of your m&s jeans, how long is your inside leg?
Thanks

PhyllisWig · 21/03/2018 23:10

What about printed ones?

I saw a pair in primark today which were a green flowery print and was tempted. I thought plain fitted tshirt, chunky trainers, maybe fitted denim jacket.

Then I thought I used to wear similar in the noughties so maybe not.

Hispterwannabe · 21/03/2018 23:17

I have a really lovely pair from French Connection. I’m not tall at 5”6 but they do seem to lengthen my legs. The key I think is to wear a fitted top to accentuate your waist.

Floisme · 22/03/2018 07:37

I like the current wide legs better than the 90s/noughties ones which were really extreme flares and insanely low waisted. These are a bit more 80s - higher rise so they show off your waist. The ones I like best are cut straight so they skim past your arse and bypass thighs altogether. My legs look way longer because - unlike skinnies and flares - they disguise the fact that my arse is sinking like a sunset.

AuntieStella · 22/03/2018 07:40

"how on earth do wide leg leggings work? surely they're not leggings anymore then?"

I meant trousers in jersey/leggings fabric. I can see why it sounds wrong, but I couldnMt think of any other way to describe them. The pair she's ordered online arrived yesterday, and I think she looks like one of the Three Degrees in them!

Icklepickle101 · 22/03/2018 07:42

I’ve tried various and they all look horrendous in me. Especially cropped ones, I do think they can look lovely though

Itscurtainsforyou · 22/03/2018 07:43

Hooray - I'm in fashion again Smile

TheDowagerCuntess · 22/03/2018 07:44

Yes, I wore some out the other night with a fitted sleeveless top and heels. Love the fitted upper half, relaxed lower half silhouette.

I'm definitely seeing them out and about more.

Love the fact that there's a bit more diversity emerging in trouser shapes - skinny-and-nothing-but-skinny is beyond tired.

Snowqueeny75 · 22/03/2018 07:48

Def seen them on people in my trendeh London media work (not on me obvs as am clearly 50 billion yrs behind said trends).

what I am similarish shape to you - where do you get yours from???

Frusso · 22/03/2018 07:55

Skinnies are still in fashion on the school run in my area. (It's the only time I pay any attention to what other are wearing.)

Skinnies do not suit me.

I have been wearing wide leg or flares for years. I shall be fashionable again. Grin

Floisme · 22/03/2018 07:57

I was in H&M the other day and they were selling wide legs, flares, bootcut, straight legs, tapered, cigarette leg and skinnies.

I don't think I can remember seeing that amount of choice in a fast fashion store before. We really should enjoy it while it lasts.

uthredswife · 22/03/2018 08:01

I work in a university and all the Chinese students are wearing them so they are obviously a hit in china. They are all young and gorgeous so they pull them off but they definitely add weight where there isn't any

Fairylea · 22/03/2018 08:03

I love wide legs but I’ll wait until it’s properly spring / summer for them as I think they look best with sandals and a summery top to balance them out. If I wear them in the winter with a big coat I just look huge all over...!

Trills · 22/03/2018 08:03

Wide-legged trousers are not "unflattering" to anyone who is not tall and thin, and skinny jeans are not universally flattering.

But skinny jeans have become so ubiquitous that we now see them as neutral, whereas wide trousers are attention-grabbing.

And we have been conditioned to think that anyone who is not tall and thin should stick to clothes that don't draw attention to them and try not to take up space.

Floisme · 22/03/2018 08:04

I disagree and I am neither young nor gorgeous.

Floisme · 22/03/2018 08:05

Hell this thread is moving fast - I was disagreeing about having to be young or gorgeous to wear them.
