Is anyone wearing wide leg trousers yet?

I have seen them in the magazines and everyone on the voice was wearing them on the weekend, including Emma Willis, but I haven’t seen anyone in real life wearing them.

Thanks •ContreauVersial

Even though I’m 5’7 I generally look better with a small chunky heel - might wait til spring/summer/sandal weather

Bluelady · 23/03/2018 09:31

Nothing young and gorgeous about me but I love wide legs, particularly in the summer with sandals. The thing is to get the proportions right, they look best with a fitted top.

I’m bemused by the idea of seeing these things “ in the wild “ as some kind of marker as to whether we “ should” be wearing something. No item is universally flattering but I would have thought they were generally more flattering than skinnies. Obviously a lot depends on the weight of fabric, the cut etc etc. I love the slouchy trousers at Margaret Howell but my hourglass shape means they don’t sit loosely on the bum or thighs in the way I would want. I do have some wider legs that I wear for work from Jaeger - it’s just a case of finding the leg length and width for the look you’re after.

Not sure why you're bemused, poor thing. All I was saying is that I haven't yet seen anyone wearing wide legged trousers aside from the cropped ones.

kitsharrington · 23/03/2018 11:04

I live in them. Put skinnies on the other day and they just looked so wrong and strangely dated.

ShiftyMcGifty · 23/03/2018 11:07

Punches air and digs up her tailored wide leg work trousers from the early 2000s.

Almahart · 23/03/2018 15:49

I’ve actually got some (not cropped) wide length trousers that I bought in Whistles in about 2002. I tried them on a couple of weeks ago and they are really well cut and amazing quality. Think they were about £50-60. Made me realise how much high street quality has deteriorated (I know that’s another thread)

DownAtFraggleRock · 23/03/2018 17:23

I just bought a pair for summer - I'm 5'8" and they are very long.

I've always found them flattering. pleased they are back

BlueEyedWonder · 23/03/2018 19:48

I’m 5ft and a size 6/8 so have to be careful not to be swamped.
I have a pair from Topshop petite that are high waisted and a heavy jersey material. I’m wearing with block heel boots and a skinny shirt or blouse tucked in to balance proportions. I like.
I’m also on the verge of purchasing wide leg jeans.

Baubletrouble43 · 23/03/2018 19:51

I have broad hips and a big ass and short legs so think I should give them a wide berth. I'm a fan of the high waisted fitted cigarette pant style though I'm not sure I'm doing myself any favours.

TempusFugitive · 23/03/2018 19:53

NO!

I'm not tall so they are just going to look so shit on me. I think skinnies show you for what you are. IN MY case, that's better than billowing voluminous wide-legged trousers.

IfNot · 23/03/2018 19:57

Yes yes yes! Well, not "yet" as I wear old ones, but glad they are back in the shops.
The absolute key is good quality fabric.
They have to hang properly, and not be cut in a skimpy way.
I have some fab sailor type high waisted ones, and more slouchy pinstripe ones.
I love wearing a more fitted top as I am really hourglass ( massive arse, big boobs, proper waist). I can't wear cropped ones though as they make me look stumpy cankles.

IfNot · 23/03/2018 19:58

Your TopShop ones sound nice blue

misscockerspaniel · 23/03/2018 20:01

They make me look like a clown.

squoosh · 23/03/2018 20:04

I think skinnies show you for what you are.

Well, exactly. That's why they only flatter 7% of the people who wear them.

TheDowagerCuntess · 23/03/2018 21:21

Exactly! ^

Tiddlywinks63 · 24/03/2018 07:15

^ judgemental or what?
😳

TempusFugitive · 24/03/2018 08:04

Sorry! I meant as a v short person tighter clothes work better than billowing drapes which work great on taller peeps

Floisme · 24/03/2018 09:51

Sorry op, you mean the floor sweeping variety, don't you? No I've not seen any of them round here and don't expect to. That's not because people look kind of weird without feet (I could imagine getting used to that) but because we have too many careless dog owners to risk it.

It's a bit like going barelegged in January - only works if you travel by limo.

MrsMozart · 24/03/2018 09:54

Me. I'm such a fashionista I've not stopped wearing them Grin They suit my shape better than skinnies.

keiratwiceknightly · 24/03/2018 10:05

I've got some Next ones from about 10 years ago. They are flattering and I will dig them out again. But here's the thing. They cost about £38 I think, and still look good. Contrast that with wha Next sell for work now - £25 (10 years later) and look scruffy and ragged after a season or two.

rightknockered · 24/03/2018 10:56

I really like the look of them, but can't see how they would be practical to wear. I will wear the cropped ones in summer, but in cold weather might prove a bit breezy. At 5ft 5 and size 6, think I'd look a bit squat in them.

rightknockered · 24/03/2018 10:56

And I don't want to wear high heels just to make a pair look good. Too attached to my trainers and Docs

IfNot · 24/03/2018 11:04

I think they look weird with heels. Also, I am the kind of person who would get the heel caught in the hem and go arse over tit on the pavement. .

rightknockered · 24/03/2018 11:09

This is the thing, I have no idea how to wear them. Can barely be bothered with fashion these days.
