Elle have a vote for you favourite perfume thingy going on www.elleuk.com/beauty/beauty-tips/a41828/vote-for-your-favourite-fragrance-for-the-chance-to-win-500-worth-of-female-fragrances Eau My Soul is on the list, so are loads of others.

SotD was Doe in the Snow (it is Spring, honest).

UnnecessaryFennel · 15/03/2018 18:23

I've voted for Eau My Soul. Bit of a random list imo!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 15/03/2018 18:53

Oh Sock, how awful for ds. I think it's true that we go defcon tiger mother when this sort of thing happens. I still want to spit at the girl who didn't invite dd (and only dd) to her party when they were 4!!!! I just kept imagining the teacher handing out the invites and dd getting all excited and then not getting one. Angry

I am in Diorissimo. I just felt like something fresh and summery, but not citrus. To school today I wore the bizarre combination of PP Chergui (I don't know the original) because when I put a tiny spritz on there was a harsh note I didn't like, I need to try it again when not in so much of a hurry. So I topped it up with a squirt of PP No Malone Incense and Embers. Very linear as to be expected and more Embers than Incense. In order to avoid a third disappointment I finished off with my beloved Cuir Cordoba which I haven't worn for yonks.

My Annick Goutal samples have arrived...yum yum, looking forward to trying those out.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 15/03/2018 19:45

Glad you had fun Pink!

Sock I hope he's feeling chirpier. I tell myself that having boys means not having to worry about cattiness from "friends" but I guess anyone can be horrible Sad

That Elle list is mad and I notice Chypre Sublime is on there. Was going to post that, having now tried them all, I don't know why they chose CS for the TPS Velvet box but it looks like they consider that one to be a bit of a star. Someone needs to tell them it's Not. All. That. In fact, probably the worst of the bunch.

On that note, SotD was Ylang Ylang Espresso, completing the set. Nice Sweetish coffee. It was a mixed bag - lot of time for Black Lotus and quite liked London Poppy and Neon Rose. Iris Goddess, Wild Vanilla Orchid and Ylang Ylang Espresso ok but wouldn't reach for them, Wonderland Peony is in the probably not pile and Chypre Sublime in the no pile.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 15/03/2018 19:47

Forgot to say, longevity oof YYE on the strip I got in the shop was so much better than on my skin. Do you think there's a market for Perfumistawear with built in and changeable strips so we can enjoy our scents longer? Grin

CountFosco · 15/03/2018 19:49

SotD Ambre Pamplemousse Rose. More comfort perfume. Horrible wet day here after yesterday being a lovely day.

OC teenagers are so cruel when they think they are being grown up aren't they. Not fitting profile, phfff. No doubt they thought they were 'just being honest'. Hopefully in a few years they'll grow up and look back in horror at how they behaved.

auberginesrus · 15/03/2018 20:03

Evening all

Gave Rosa Ribes a good run out today and decided I would save my money - its pleasant enough and lasts well, but smells just like a rose perfumed talcum powder in a cardboard tube with a powder puff I used to have aged about 10 or 11 - I think Avon or maybe Marks and Spencer. Anyone remember them? I knew it reminded me of something last time I tried it but couldn't put my finger on it - and then today it came to me. No SOTE as yet but I might go and have a play with my sample tin in a bit Smile

OCSockOrphanage · 15/03/2018 20:11

Profuse thanks to you all. DS trudged off to school today with a very starched upper lip and blanked the inter-railers, determined to focus on physics. One of the two exams he had prepared for thoroughly and that was fine-ish; the other teacher had set an exam on work they hadn't covered and had to interrupt the test to explain how a new (to them) piece of apparatus worked and its function. He's planning to talk to his close friend in the group on Monday, when he's simmered down.

Then his insurance company chose today to let him know he needs to buy more miles.... at £200 per 1000 miles. They are suggesting 2,500 more to get through to 1 August. And his scored rating on his telematics box is better than mine would be good. So the reasonably priced insurance isn't particularly reasonable come March.

Thanks too for all the suggestions: plans are fluid right now, but once A levels are done, he's going to do a four week chef proficiency certificate and spend a couple of months in a hotel kitchen locally, then either a ski season chalet cooking or go to the Caribbean (where we know some permanent resident people) and do yacht crewing/cooking. There are employers who are very keen for competent semi-casuals with nice manners and pleasant accents to crew. It's going to be about him having fun, staying solvent and having some time not being told what he wants to do next.

Or, IF his A levels turn out better than he fears, he might apply in clearing for a Film and TV production course.

OCSockOrphanage · 15/03/2018 20:12

Apologies for the essay. Don't blame anyone for not reading the off-topic post.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/03/2018 20:28

SOTD is L’Air de Rien.

sock sorry to hear things are so rubbish for your son. I have no parenting advice, but I can recall that age being absolutely vile - I hated school, didn’t fit in, and definitely didn’t find my “tribe” until university.

On a slightly mum-ish note, one of my students is doing her final year project on how feminism is represented in the media. In a moment of madness, I suggested she post a survey on the feminism board here. What a mistake. She’s been torn apart for using male/female/other as a categorisation question. She’s defended herself very well, but emailed me in a right tizz this evening. I told her just to disengage completely, and remember my online rules of “just be kind” and “don’t be a dick”, but I feel SO bad for her. If anyone would be willing to do the survey without getting into the sex/gender debate, this is the thread.

OCSockOrphanage · 15/03/2018 20:47

Did your student's survey, from the old gimmer POV, and told the rest they were mad as a box of frogs. There has to be some comeback from the 70s feminists.

positivepineapple · 15/03/2018 20:48

Oh gosh Judy I only read about 6 comments! Those people are itching for a fight. Well done to your student though, the responses I read are calm and articulate.

Sock I hope it all works out for him, whatever happens after this he sounds mature and intelligent with lots of exciting options and excellent support available.

CountFosco · 15/03/2018 22:31

She’s been torn apart for using male/female/other as a categorisation question

No, she's been torn apart for using gender rather than sex as a categorisation question. MN (bravely) is one of the few places (online or RL) that allows gender critical views to be discussed so it's probably the first time she's experienced it and it will ultimately be good for her to be exposed to robust criticism of her views about gender. She did OK TBH and they did treat her with respect, they just disagreed with her.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/03/2018 23:06

Thanks for the survey input. count I think she handled herself very well, but I wish I hadn’t encouraged her to post it as she’s been really upset by the response. While I am sure you’re right in terms of it ultimately being good for her, I can see her as a real person rather than just a post on a forum, and I feel awful that she is distressed because of my suggestion. I teach media studies, advertising, PR, marketing, and the students are free to pick whatever topics they want for this project - I imagine a lecturer in a different, more specialised area would have been more clued up, so I feel totally shitty and responsible for her feeling shitty too.

UnnecessaryFennel · 16/03/2018 07:03

SOTD is Aromatics Elixir

papersmile · 16/03/2018 08:25

I've completed the survey. I think it's a probably a good learning experience for your student (once she gets over the horror). The wrong word in a campaign can completely wreck it. Anyway, I hope she gets enough respondents to work with.

I also thought she handled herself really well in her responses by staying calm.

Today I will be mostly wearing Vervaine by Fragonard - it's sample in a Perfume Society box. Inoffensive so far.

MrsGruber · 16/03/2018 08:28

Back in peach faux fur - snow coming later. Don't fancy my go-to with this coat, Traversee du Bosphore, as I wore that for a big work day earlier in the week, and am still feeling sensitised. But sticking with rose, SotD is Lyn Harris' La Rose.

Judy - your student might enjoy Barbara Herman's writing on perfume, marketing, gender roles and sex? Yesterday's Perfume

UnnecessaryFennel · 16/03/2018 08:51

I have a cold and AE is clearing my sinuses nicely Grin

Feel exhausted, slept horribly last night, dp has a hospital procedure this afternoon so a bit aargh about that, got a 3-hour seminar to do before I can leave to see him and, basically, TGIF!

LibertyBlue · 16/03/2018 09:24

SOTD 4160 Ealing Green- a sample sent with a purchase. First time I’ve tried. Hmmm I know it’s a favourite here but I’m finding the opening a bit tricky. Will persevere - i have form with initial dislikes becoming favourites. One of the reviews on fragrantica says “an uber-green grassy herbal fragrance that I have grown to appreciate after initial disgust” !!

LibertyBlue · 16/03/2018 10:27

Bargain alert - CDG Pharell Williams Girl is now being flogged off in Poundland. How sad.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 16/03/2018 10:34

how much for in pundland liberty do you know?

positivepineapple · 16/03/2018 10:56

I may be a little late to the party, but Penhaligon have a fragrance finder quiz on their FB page, you click through the quiz and they select 8 scents you may like. You can then choose 2 in sample size and you just pay postage which is £5.50. The £5.50 is then redeemable of a full bottle if you wish.

LibertyBlue · 16/03/2018 11:32

I’m guessing £1 OneNight Grin The bottles are 10ml. Not available online, will be popping to shop at lunch to raid the shelves Grin

LibertyBlue · 16/03/2018 11:33

That is a steal positivepineapple thanks for the heads up

MrsGruber · 16/03/2018 14:31

That's tragic! It's really good perfume. Good case study for Judy? High brow CdG fans wont touch it because of the sleb tie-in, but Antoine Lie is a bit out there for sleb perfume buyers? Equal opportunity perfume lovers, like outselves, should fill boots, sharpish. Grin
