According to dh, my style is 6th form drama teacher. What’s yours?

So I do have a penchant for some ‘ethnic’ style jewellery and a billowy frock. And a bit of beading/embroidery/sequins/faux fur. I think I pull it off Grin but no matter what I wear this is what I look like. You could put me in a trouser suit and I’d still look like a art/drama teacher. What’s that all about? What’s your inescapable style?

Okay I asked my DP and he said "fisherman- you want to be scandi-noir but you look like a fisherman" ShockShock

BrownLiverSpot · 11/01/2018 19:17

Apparently "comfortable pregnant" according to DH

Tiredeypops · 11/01/2018 21:22

Peri-menopausal mum living in the country here too (I'm mid twenties which makes this all the more tragic - it comes from not being able to show any 'personality' at work...

Mrsmadevans · 11/01/2018 22:08

Think Joules style but Country Rose prices............. ie EWM

guffaux · 11/01/2018 22:09

dp said 'betjeman cycle girl-; because that's how he sees me, Confused ( i'm dumpy, frumpy, beige grey and invisible.)

Catra · 11/01/2018 22:20

Hmmm... my ex once described my style as "dragged through a jumble sale backwards". Yep, he's an ex for a reason!

Personally I'd describe my style as quirky, colourful and bohemian. The older I get, the more, however, comfort matters to me above all else. I couldn't look polished if I tried.

dirtyprettything · 11/01/2018 22:41

Slightly overweight outgrown goth who still thinks she’s a skinny 21 year old

BlueEyedWonder · 11/01/2018 22:44

French wannabe

Breton stripes, slim jeans, red lip, messy bob, trench

As a big Labour supporter, I was horrified to be stopped in the frozen pea aisle a few months back by some older guy who pointed to my leopard print pumps and said, “great shoes, are you channelling Teresa May”

ohtheholidays · 11/01/2018 23:21

Classic and chic,I wear alot of fitted dresses and fitted skirts,I love the 1950's style of pencil skirts and well cut fabrics.

But I do change it up quite alot I dress for how I'm feeling at the time so my wardrobe is a real mix and match,I have tailored skirts and figure hugging dresses along side maxi dresses and crisp white shirts.

I only own 1 pair of jeans though and I haven't worn them for ages.

ohtheholidays · 11/01/2018 23:25

Gammeldragz what about trying out a personal shopper?Lots of the larger department stores offer the service for free or for a low fee and you recoup the cost on any items you buy from the shop and you don't have an obligation to buy anything from that paticular store if you don't want to.

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 11/01/2018 23:28

My style is professional goth. Heavy boots, blazer, fitted top, dark lipstick and dramatic eyeliner.

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 11/01/2018 23:30

(For people of a certain age, think Jane Lane from Daria)

2018SoFarSoGreat · 11/01/2018 23:31

Sad, but I really had to think hard and could not come up with a description beyond "quite old and very fat but tries hard" so I asked my very stylish assistant. She pondered for 30 seconds, then said "minimal with avant garde edge and a nod to classic" - I like it.

Sounds way hipper than I feel, but I have to say I have been following the threads on being more French, and paying way more attention to S&B. There is hope.

slippermaiden · 11/01/2018 23:44

90s indie kid mixed with Addams family, with a nod to minimalist...

franktheskank · 11/01/2018 23:47

I'm overdressed. Not in a ball gown way, in fact not overdressed but maybe a bit overdone....but I have about 50 long sleeved low cut skater dresses i wear with tights and ankle/knee boots and I wear that look every day. If I go out I have variations of that but essentially that's my look Grini wouldnt change my body except for being a bit lighter but my shape seems to make everything look a bit page 3 ish.

I also always have spray tan/lash extensions/ hair extensions/nail extensions and full make up 😂I'm so used to it now I can't bear being without them even though dp insists I look beautiful both ways ( he's lying)

I think part of it is I have 7 children and home educate two so maybe no one expects me to have time for all that but I'm used to it and I love getting ready Smile

So I don't know what it'd be called... maybe ex page 3 girl past her best or one of the lower football leagues wags GrinShockWine

TopazPolly · 11/01/2018 23:58

Apparently I'm a cross between Victoria Wood and Bridget Jones. According to my ex husband anyway. Probably not flattering but possibly accurate.

notacooldad · 12/01/2018 00:00

DP says I dresss like a 17 year old skateboarder!
I don't intend to and I'm nearly 53.

egginacup · 12/01/2018 00:13

Ha, I came on to say student! Although lately more like a 90s 6th former- my baggy jumpers and skinny jeans are reminiscent of the huge oversized men’s jumpers and leggings I used to wear in the 90s, and I haven’t had a hair cut in 2 years so it’s getting to that point of being far too long and straggly for a nearly 40 year old...

2Cold4me · 12/01/2018 00:29

I did ask my oh once: he said that I was "Plain and frumpy". Now I just don't ask as he just said: "if you don't want the truth, don't ask!"

Another gem (before I learnt my lesson and stopped asking) was: " You could be in a line of a hundred other women and no-one would look twice at you as you're very plain."

GlitterUnicornsAndAllThatJazz · 12/01/2018 00:32

@2Cold4me

Thats awful

2Cold4me · 12/01/2018 00:37

Really thought provoking, fun question though, and I'm enjoying reading all the other peoples' answers.

I would love a style, but wouldn't know how to go about it and I hate spending money on myself; I never feel like deserve it.

May09Bump · 12/01/2018 00:37

Dryer Chic - whatever is washed and doesn't need ironing. Usually, the same comfy outfits (outfits is pushing it really).

Funny thread OP - thanks!

2Cold4me · 12/01/2018 00:38

thanks, glitter; but I guess he's correct, in that if I didn't want the truth, I shouldn't have asked.

May09Bump · 12/01/2018 00:42

@2Cold4me - lose DH he is a shit (sorry don't normally swear) and buy what you would love to wear, sounds like you really deserve it.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 12/01/2018 00:43

2Cold - did you smack him on the nose with a rolled up newspaper for that comment? Not nice. I am mad for you.

I suppose we could be kind and hope it means he loves you for your brilliant mind and sparkling personality, and is oblivious to the physical appearance. I hope so. Flowers
