According to dh, my style is 6th form drama teacher. What’s yours?

So I do have a penchant for some ‘ethnic’ style jewellery and a billowy frock. And a bit of beading/embroidery/sequins/faux fur. I think I pull it off Grin but no matter what I wear this is what I look like. You could put me in a trouser suit and I’d still look like a art/drama teacher. What’s that all about? What’s your inescapable style?

To be clear, I asked my DH, not a DJ Blush

LockedOutOfMN · 13/01/2018 23:03

Asked DH and he replied immediately, "Mean Girls". Yikes.

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 13/01/2018 23:51

Locked, are you still at high school?? Grin

ginorwine · 14/01/2018 00:00

I sort of look like I'm in the 1960 s
The thing is what was cool when I was younger is bordering on fancy dress now I'm older - am not being ageist to myself - it's just the way it is . I love the minimalist ugly clothes cos look - but as I have a slight beehive hairstyle it doesn't work and the clothes tend to ' wear ' me !
I'm not sure wether to try change my look or to hell with it . I can't do elegant tho somehow - I just look bland in my eyes .

ginorwine · 14/01/2018 00:02

Ooh
Wish I looked like I was running a Cornish tea shop .. if that means ( as it does in my mind !) rocking tea dresses and fab hair .!

HarrietSchulenberg · 14/01/2018 00:12

Like an explosion in the knitwear section of a charity shop.

disneydatknee · 14/01/2018 00:32

Grandma apparently. I buy a lot of my clothes from Sainsbury’s as it’s only up the road from me. Have seen lots of elderly women wearing the same outfits I’ve picked out. So don’t care

No, I'm 37! Shock Blush

Everythingsr0sie · 14/01/2018 00:45

Asked DH and he said 90s indie/soccer mum/page 3/unique style icon.

He's not one for decision making!

mathanxiety · 14/01/2018 07:50

'Cold front rolling in from Rockall' - lots of charcoal grey, dark grey, medium grey, light grey, light grey-blue, mid grey-blue, dark grey-blue, dark grey-green, dark sea green, black, black, and more black. Occasionally ... plum, white. Mainly jeans, no fancy washes and no worn patches.

Love my massive ugly (black) boots. I also love metallic boots and shoes. Big black coat. Black handbags. Helmut Lang 'Cuiron' perfume.

Berlin depressive might cover it too Smile.

mathanxiety · 14/01/2018 07:52

*also, grey-navy, navy-grey, black-navy and navy.

Aethelthryth · 14/01/2018 07:54

In my head: slightly retro intellectual with an eye for texture and colour
Reality: moth-eaten 1970s librarian training cat hair

Aethelthryth · 14/01/2018 07:55

trailing, not training

Bobbybobbins · 14/01/2018 08:05

Scruffy kitten according to my husband!!

veryveryquietly · 14/01/2018 08:24

I have more than once been mistaken for a John Lewis partner when shopping there. That's not a bad thing, but I guess I need to funk up the tailored black a bit.

Mrsmadevans · 14/01/2018 08:39

VERY their uniform is very naice ... my DD2 works for them and I do her laundry .....very naice quality and tailoring .....love it !secretly would love to work there 25% discount is not the only reason--

SnugglySnerd · 14/01/2018 09:29

mathanxiety your cold front description is brilliant!

veryveryquietly · 14/01/2018 09:33

Mrsmad - I'd love to work there too! I don't think my version is as good quality as their uniform, alas. (Sadly, even when I'm wearing all black I never, ever get mistaken for one of the assistants in Selfridges. I will never be that hip.) Since then I've tried to avoid wearing black on top and bottom when I go shopping there, although I guess I could just go with it and give my opinions on the merchandise :)

I guess I aspire to chic art gallery owner, but end up JL partner on very good days, and disheveled uni lecturer/cat lady on most (which is what I am, really).

namastayinbed · 14/01/2018 11:25

math Grin

namastayinbed · 14/01/2018 11:33

DH said "casual chic". He was being polite.
By day: joules sale rail escapee late for the school run
By night: Loose Women escapee on the razz

MessySurfaces · 14/01/2018 12:06

Well I asked DP, and he looked scared then said "seasonally" and was very pleased. He is happy for me to post that in case it is of guidance to other DPs on the spot.

I used to be quite cool in a vintage, east London DIY sort of way. Then I had kids.

2Cold you might feel worth spending money on if you didn't live with someone who feels that is an acceptable thing to say to you. You are worth more than that.

LockedOutOfMN · 14/01/2018 13:31

mathanxiety Your style sounds amazing! Envy (actual envy)

user1469751309 · 14/01/2018 13:35

At the moment I seem to be chanelling the look of Karen Taylor off Eastenders.... Blush

LuluJakey1 · 14/01/2018 14:05

I gave the thread to DH to read and asked about me. He said 'Sort of Mary Poppins meets preppy meets 1960s meets English country thing, not sure if that quite says it'.

I'd say dog walking mum - Seasalt coat, Dubarry boots, beanie hat most days at the minute. When I can be bothered shorts skirt/ pinafore with nice Liberty print shirts and cardi and thick tights and vintage jewellry

rightknockered · 14/01/2018 14:44

Well I don't have a DP to ask an opinion, my children said "lady that wears black". I think I look a bit gothic chic
