So I do have a penchant for some ‘ethnic’ style jewellery and a billowy frock. And a bit of beading/embroidery/sequins/faux fur. I think I pull it off Grin but no matter what I wear this is what I look like. You could put me in a trouser suit and I’d still look like a art/drama teacher. What’s that all about? What’s your inescapable style?

Another politicians wife type here - lots of classics jaeger Hobbs whistles etc
Plain cashmere - occasional stripe - knitted dresses - slim trousers or skinnies
The only bit that doesn’t fit is I mix it with a lot of bling jewellery (all real) and like bright coloured pointy shoes

MikeUniformMike: Bag lady

This reflects mine: don't leave the house naked.

OMGWTFLMFAO · 12/01/2018 01:07

During the day, I have no style as such but on a night out, I go waaaay overboard with the cosmetics. I leave looking like a slightly slimmer Gemma Collins and come home looking like fucking Jackie Stallone...🙈😂

2Cold4me · 12/01/2018 01:08

I think I'd like to be casual, but elegant, a bit like the way the tv presenter Emma Forbes dresses; not sure how you'd categorise it though.

may, I've learnt not to ask.
2018, lol, no, probably should've, but I was hurt by his comments. I guess I wouldn't want him to lie though, either.

halfwitpicker · 12/01/2018 01:08

When I go to work, according to DH, I look like a "foreign exchange student" because of my huge backpack, my glasses, my funky hair cut and the fact I always look lost for some reason.

This is me too. I like to think I also look Dutch for some reason Hmm

OldGuard · 12/01/2018 02:18

I love the way Frances McDormond looked at the Golden Globes - minimal, classic, edgy, different - wish I could pull that off

Retired art teacher

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 12/01/2018 07:03

An emo student who suddenly has found herself 14 years post graduation and having to adult a bit.

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 12/01/2018 07:30

At work - pencil skirts/city dresses and jackets so quite corporate but usually accessorised in a more academic style so maybe “corporate librarian” if that is a thing.
Off duty - Jessica Jones is about right

Eddie from Ab Fab meets the lost 5th member of All Saints.

(Love lots of Vivienne Westwood, also urban parka, chunky boots ....though it's fair to say I haven't actually done combats and crop tops since the '90s)

No point asking DH, doubt he notices whether I'm in PJs or a suit Hmm

violetbunny · 12/01/2018 07:45

Desperate Housewife Grin

DryWhiteagainW · 12/01/2018 07:52

Short Clare Underwood on a budget

Brilliant thread OP

crumpet · 12/01/2018 07:53

Best thread I’ve read in ages.

MoreCheerfulMonica · 12/01/2018 07:55

Ages ago, someone on S&B derided M&S Per Una as "fat pottery teacher". Awful realisation dawned that that was probably my personal style.

BanyanTree · 12/01/2018 08:32

Aging rock chic. Middle age people think I look cool, anyone under 30 probably thinks I am a sadster. Think Gemma Teller.

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 12/01/2018 08:50

This would be an interesting thread to read anyway, but particularly for me at the moment. A few years ago, after surgery and illness, I gained a few stone quite quickly, and then failed to lose it, so I had to donate most of my clothes to charity. Since then my style has been pretty much - fat seaside Mum, ie stripy tops, jeggings, smocks, basically head to toe Seasalt.

But now I'm well on my way to losing the weight and I should be back to my normal size by Easter - and I wonder what my style will be now. I used to wear a lot of dresses and vintage, quite 1940s, quite French, I guess. Not sure how I'll dress this time!

But Cold - ditch that DH, chick Angry

AutumnalTed · 12/01/2018 09:24

Ive asked my sister. She says typical white girl turned young mum Hmm

ARichVernacular · 12/01/2018 09:34

I asked DH this morning. He agreed with my 90s grunge/Lynda Day reference, but added 'hot nazi bitch' and 'Blade Runner'. Which tbf is kind of what I'm going for, so I'm happy with that.

holycityzoo · 12/01/2018 09:36

I love this thread too. I asked my dp and he said elegantConfused then said actually you dress amazingly.
I'm not at all elegant.
I asked dd (13) and she said funky and trendy like you can tell you were cool once. I think that's a kind of compliment!

AndromedaPerseus · 12/01/2018 09:38

Guffaux are you:
Myfanwy

Kind o’er the kinderbank leans my Myfanwy,
White o’er the playpen the sheen of her dress,
Fresh from the bathroom and soft in the nursery
Soap scented fingers I long to caress.

Were you a prefect and head of your dormit'ry?
Were you a hockey girl, tennis or gym?
Who was your favourite? Who had a crush on you?
Which were the baths where they taught you to swim?

Smooth down the Avenue glitters the bicycle,
Black-stockinged legs under navy blue serge,
Home and Colonial, Star, International,
Balancing bicycle leant on the verge.

Trace me your wheel-tracks, you fortunate bicycle,
Out of the shopping and into the dark,
Back down the avenue, back to the pottingshed,
Back to the house on the fringe of the park.

Golden the light on the locks of Myfanwy,
Golden the light on the book on her knee,
Finger marked pages of Rackham's Hans Anderson,
Time for the children to come down to tea.

Oh! Fullers angel-cake, Robertson’s marmalade,
Liberty lampshade, come shine on us all,
My! what a spread for the friends of Myfanwy,
Some in the alcove and some in the hall.

Then what sardines in half-lighted passages!
Locking of fingers in long hide-and-seek.
You will protect me, my silken Myfanwy,
Ring leader, tom-boy, and chum to the weak.

SnugglySnerd · 12/01/2018 09:42

I'm rocking Maternity Leave Chic. Various items that don't fit very well accessorised with sick over the right shoulder.

AlleyG · 12/01/2018 09:50

DH said:

When I work at home I look like a "homeless art teacher who stinks of gin and coffee" because I just shove on whatever old clothes I find, usually with a big flowery scarf wrapped around my neck, I have my glasses on a glasses chain (always losing them) and my desk always has about 17 coffee mugs all over it,

When I go out, DH said I look like a "page 3 girl on her day off but still expecting to be papped" because I'm slim with huge boobs (the page 3 bit) and always look a bit over-done with make-up on (the expecting to get papped bit). He also says I have a sexy walk and "come to bed eyes" Hmm

I don't think I do look "over-egged (DH's word) with make-up on it's just that DH doesn't often see me in make-up. I would like to wear less make-up but I have acne scars which I'm really self conscious about.

UterusUterusGhali · 12/01/2018 10:44

I just asked DP.

He said "Bagladyesque". Hmm

To be fair I was mistaken for a homeless person last night so he may have a point.
