Yeah Pest, but we haven't seen Green's list yet....Smile

MrsPestilence · 08/10/2017 14:44

Haven't done my list either Grin

SoTD was truly a blind selection (had left glasses downstairs) a nice slightly dirty rose. Turned out to be JHaG Mad Madame, I am sure someone told me I would like this, months ago.

Here goes with 4160:
Who Knew
A Kiss by the Fireside
Another Kiss by the Fireside
Shazam!
Up the Apples and Pears
Killer Rose
Doe in the Snow
Ealing Green
Dirty Honey

I haven't tried them all, there is not enough time to try all perfumes, but I shall try to make an impression upon the list. Perfumes need proper trying ie wearing them for 2 or 3 days. Skin chemistry has a lot to do with how they smell on you.

Never be afraid of your perfume choice Sherry. One of my favourites is a white floral, it just happens to be about the only one I like.

MrsMacNally · 08/10/2017 14:51

Pest - can't read the decants link you kindly posted as I'm not on Facebook [dinosaur emoji].

Does it do for our research project or are we OK with small properly packed samples for educational purposes?

Calmwhoknows · 08/10/2017 14:56

I have most of the 4160Tuesdays, many of them samples. My favourites are:

Inevitable Crimes of Passion
Babylon Sunset
Shazam
Paris 1948
Silk, Lace and Chocolate
Dark Heart of Old Havana
Rome 1963

There are none that I dislike, but there are a few which are so nostalgic I have to use them when I'm "in the mood"!:

The Lion Cupboard
A Kiss by the Fireside
What I Did on My Holidays
Captured by Candlelight

OnTheSherry · 08/10/2017 15:22

I forgot about WIDOMH. Lovely. I know its meant to evoke British seaside holidays, but I stayed in a little ramshackle beachfront apartment in Miami a couple of years ago, and they left us complimentary, homemade room fragrance and handwsh that smelled exactly like it. So it reminds me of Miami beach Grin.

Captured by Candlelight is wonderful, too. I am eking out a tiny sample for Christmas. I feel like its going to be a great Christmas Night fragrance.

Come to think of it, I can only think of a few 4160Ts I haven't liked - Dirty Honey, Raw Silk and Red Roses and the London one (1969?).

I like the MrsGloss one, and the Lemon Sherbet flanker.

MrsPestilence · 08/10/2017 15:23

That loophole covers most things Grin

Facebook thing is a closed group, summary. If the perfume manufacturer is in cahoots with the sample supplier and the packaging has been tested as stable, then it seems to be allowed.

GreenPolishToGo · 08/10/2017 17:31

Favourite 4160 Tuesdays - ooh how long have you got?! I love so many of them. If I am ruthless I can cut the list down to:

Oriane - a limited edition because, sadly, it should cost well into three figures. It's one of the Proust-inspired perfumes and a beautiful, mellow, powdery scent. I think it's worthy of the best of Guerlain.
Tart's Knicker Drawer - fingers crossed this is scent of the week soon.
The Dark Heart of Old Havana
Silk, Lace & Chocolate
Mother Nature's Naughty Daughters
Inevitable Crimes of Passion
Midnight in the Palace Garden - enjoy it Sherry, it is wonderful. I pounced on one of The Naughty Cupboard bottles a couple of months ago.
What I Did On My Holidays
Ealing Green
The Buddhawood Box
Dirty Honey
Up the Apples and Pears
Captured by Candlelight
Another Kiss by the Fireside
The Sexiest Scent in the World Ever (IMHO)
Sunshine & Pancakes
Rome 1963
New York 1955
Mrs Gloss Made Me Do It
Mrs Gloss Lemon Sherbert.

I like most of the others very much too.Smile.

Hello Dlpdep I remember you inspired me to crack on with my Juliette Has A Gun samples. I'm not an oud fan either. Mad Madame and Lady Vengeance were my favourites from the JHAGs.

PIAM you need some Magie Noire. It deserves a place in your amazing vintage collection.

SOTD is Mary Greenwell Fire. Thank you very much Sock. I did misjudge it before. Now I think it was a mistake to try it on a blazing hot day. Second time around I'm appreciating it a lot more. It is certainly not a Pink Minger.

Thanks everyone for your 4160 T favourites, I’m going to put an order in soon Grin

Judydreamsofhorses · 08/10/2017 18:31

SOTD is Clinique Wrappings. I think I am in a minority of one in that I haven't loved the bulk of the 4160 scents I've tried. I have a full bottle of WIDOMH, but haven't really enjoyed the samples I've had.

Badders08 · 08/10/2017 18:36

Im with you judy...
Have only really liked dark heart of old Havana which dh hates sadly

explodingkittens · 08/10/2017 18:53

I've only tried a couple of 4160s and, while I love the names and the ethos/ideas behind them, I've not been hugely struck on the scents themselves so far. However I will definitely be giving more a try.

I did like Shazam!, and would say it's probably my fave so far. Have also tried Ealing Green which I think would be better served by wearing it in the spring, and Invisible Ben which again might be a great summer, cologne-style, spritzy scent but didn't work for me in Autumn. I'm tempted by The Lion Cupboard, Rosa Ribes and The Dark Heart of Old Havana as I think they'll probably be more my type of thing.

explodingkittens · 08/10/2017 18:57

Oh and maybe Captured by Candlelight, that does sound lovely!

No SOTD today. My cold is hanging on and on, it just hasn't seemed worth wearing lovely scents when I can hardly smell them Sad

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 08/10/2017 19:31

I'm not so well versed with 4160s but have most enjoyed Rome 1963, London 1969 and Goodbye Picadilly of the ones I have tried. Do let us know what you choose Bluebell!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 08/10/2017 19:45

I'm with you too Judy. Though have only tried London, Paris, Buddawood and Ealing Green thus far.

Two that I want full bottles of (London and EG) one I really don't like (Paris) and Buddawood, which smells like a burned Tauer to me Grin I do need to persevere because all you wondrous perfumistas can't be wrong.

I am now showered, pyjama'd and in Au Coeur du Desert. My family may think I smell of Karvol, but I think I'm ravishing.

Am currently reading (and loving) Stan Barstow- A Kind of Loving..The trilogy begins in the immediate post-war period and I love how evocative and nostalgic it is- and it got me wondering what our mothers and I suppose grandmothers would have been wearing then (I know we've talked about OL (perhaps we should call them that?) scents, but I wonder what they would have considered to be modern at the time? Waffle waffle. I love period things (post bonnet though, can't be done with bonnets)

Badders08 · 08/10/2017 20:10

Oooh
Wartime scents
Now that is interesting!!

Badders08 · 08/10/2017 20:18

Anyone got l interdit??

BluebellGal · 08/10/2017 20:30

I will let you know once I put a 4160 order in and give my verdict on each of the scents. I can see quite a lot of shared favourites from your lists.

SOTD is Miller Harris Rose Tubereuse. This is my number one Tuberose fragrance, it’s amazingly well balanced, not headache inducing and longevity is very decent.

BluebellGal · 08/10/2017 20:32

Sorry it’s Noix de Tubereuse! Rose Tuberose is the E Coudray which I quite like but don’t love

MontyPythonsFlyingFuck · 08/10/2017 20:38

I don't think I'm as influenced by the weather for perfumes as many people - perversely I wear more figgy ones when it's colder (Philosykos and Premier Figuier/PF Extreme). For proper winteriness, Timbuktu, but then I also like the dryness of that in the summer.

Totally different sort and style of book, PIAM, but the Elizabeth Jane Howard Cazalet books are also good on scent - set in the 30s - 50s. Caron's Bellodgia is one I remember, and also a couple of Coty ones - L'Aimant, definitely.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 08/10/2017 20:50

Checking in, been away, in youth dew, Ive embraced the older lady mantle (it was a 40th uni reunion, so we are creaking on for 60), I don't care, I can wear the olefactory equivalent of purple.
Green, I don't suppose amongst your masculine scents you have comme de garçon Wonderwood? I had a sample, dh has worn it all weekend and, oh my it's delightful, woody, warm and very very sexy. (And expensive) I'm sure perfume parlour did a dupe, but no.
Wartime scents-my mum wore soir de Paris (tiny bright blue bottle) and Phul Nana, which also was scented breath sweets.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 08/10/2017 20:52

Oh and Tuberose-I love Sublime, dh bought it for me over 20 years ago. One of the kids at school told me I smelt like a granny.

MrsMacNally · 08/10/2017 21:49

OhWhat - you might like Girl (CdG/Pharrell Williams). It's a bit like Wonderwood, but with a milky violet shot through it. (Can be picked up very cheaply right now around £13 for 100ml). It's very good and a complete bargain.

BluebellGal · 08/10/2017 22:23

mrsmacnally I tried Girl recently - was impressed too, it’s a very interesting and a deep woody scent and a complete bargain. I think the reason it didn’t sell was the name - it’s misleading to a younger audience expecting a PM Grin

MrsMacNally · 09/10/2017 00:42

Yes, be interesting to get Judy's take as it feels a bit of a marketing fail? Too niche smelling for mainstream, but Sleb collaboration not necessarily playing well with niche audience? Smells good. Smile
