Mary I would be delighted to send you a little decant of Fire when I’m up and about - it can be a bit of a marmite one but I adore it and like to share the love. Then you can decide whether to re-order a FB if you like it. I have plenty of spare decant bottles so if you would like, PM me your address?

PIAM fingers crossed for your job too, it really annoys me that people have to jump through so many hoops. DH once went for a temporary job (think min wage box lifting) and had to do extensive English and maths tests including complicated mental arithmetic without a calculator Hmm I totally would have failed that Wink

MrsS your Babylon Sunset drink and drugs weekend makes me think we may know each other in RL Grin It wasn’t in Dublin, was it?!

Green have PMed you, you lovely person! I’ve not tested the Alien AE but might do later if I can manage a shower. Am saving it as a treat Smile

The talk re teenage boys and fragrance is interesting to me, I have one clouds of Lynx loving one too - I managed to get him into the Lynx Daily Fragrances which are actually pretty good, especially the amber one. He isn’t really into “grown up aftershave” yet but will sniff my unisex stuff, and actually all my perfumes, he likes the nostalgia effect I think. I’ve said before on here that Madonna’s Truth or Dare smells better on him than me. Annoyingly. Also TF Tobacco And Vanilla was fab on him (I smelt like I was wearing Vicks Hmm)

OCSockOrphanage · 15/10/2017 14:21

Fingers crossed for you, PIAM. Sure, all will be well.

Tam Dao again today. Might have to get a bigger decant next time. And I am very taken with the idea of acquiring Girl before it's gone. When I get back in the car, I may have to hit the shops to try it before buying a cheapie.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 15/10/2017 15:42

Oh Floofy, that would be lovely. Can I offer you a sample of any of the 4160 Crimes of Passion in return? They accidentally sent me two sets! I will PM you.

explodingkittens · 15/10/2017 15:49

After living with it for a few hours, there is an awful lot of Iso E Super in the dry-down of Girl, to my uneducated nose. So it might not be a keeper after all. But I did enjoy the first couple of hours and it's a bargain for the price.

Mary, my ds has been rather taken with Verveine d'Eugene by Heeley, and a couple of the Acqua di Parmas (ginepro di sardegna is one). I also passed on Escentric Molecules 1 as it gives dp a headache when I wear it. He hasn't quite got the hang of not drenching himself in the stuff, but tbh anything's got to be better than Eau de Plate Found Under The Bed, L'air de Unemptied Bin, or Fleurs de Damp Unwashed Rugby Kit Grin

PerfumeIsAMessage · 15/10/2017 16:28

Was the Mark Buxton one Charco

PerfumeIsAMessage · 15/10/2017 16:31

Don't know what happened there!

Charcoal? I loved it. One of my samples from Nose is something called Ashes by Frank someone which is similar.

In Fendi again today. I feel like I'm in an 80s movie.

GreenPolishToGo · 15/10/2017 18:53

Kittens I am so pleased to have found another Aromatics Elixir fan. I adore the green, mossy overload. Oh and here is a copied and pasted list of the perfumes that were in the Somerset House exhibition:

DANIELA ANDRIER – PURPLE RAIN (2015)
A sumptuous re-working of traditional iris perfumes

MARK BUXTON – COMME DES GARÇONS 2 (1999)
An ultra-modern, ink-inspired fragrance

BERTRAND DUCHAUFOUR – INCENSE: AVIGNON (2002)
An olfactory portrait of French Catholic mass

OLIVIA GIACOBETTI – EN PASSANT (2000)
A fresh, floral fragrance with a twist

LYN HARRIS – CHARCOAL (2016)
A familiar, yet unexpected, intriguing fragrance

ANTOINE LIE – SÉCRÉTIONS MAGNIFIQUES (2007)
The scent of sexual pleasure

DAVID S. MOLTZ – EL COSMICO (2015)
A sensory exploration of the Texan Desert

GEZA SCHOEN – MOLECULE 01 (2007)
The skill of science meets the art of perfume

ANDY TAUER – L’AIR DU DÉSERT MAROCAIN (2005)
A fragrance inspired by the scents of the Saharan Desert

KILLIAN WELLS – DARK RIDE (2015)
A thrilling scent simulation of a water theme-park

I think your inky one must have been the second one. I'd have happily taken home L'Air du Désert Marocain, Avignon and Purple Rain.

PIAM adding my good wishes to the many others for your job application going well. If fragrant good vibes have an influence it's got to be in the bag. Fendi sounds marvellous. So does Dune.

At £7.50 plus P&P for a 9ml I'd say The Dark Heart of Old Havana is a steal Cheap. But you know this is not the place to counsel self-restraint when it comes to gorgeous scents...

You really didn't have to be an expert to have a lovely time and produce something more than satisfactory at the 4160s workshop Mary. I am fairly rubbish at identifying individual notes.

But Sarah Mac, presiding over a host of little potion bottles like a friendly version of Professor Snape, made it much easier by giving us a succession of scent strips sprayed with individual notes - eg vetiver, vanilla, rose, galbanum etc - to sniff. So we were able to build up a pile of a favourite notes and sniff various strips together before deciding what we thought would work in our concoctions.

Only then did we start mixing up small quantities in tiny tester bottles. I made up three sample mixes before settling on the combination I felt worked for my Vipers' Outing. It was a busy day, but it really was fascinating and great fun. I'd thoroughly recommend a workshop to anyone even slightly interested in perfume.

Floofy I've got your PM, thank you. It's a pleasure. Smile

DH being at work today I thought it was a good opportunity to experiment with layering Fathom V (DH is most emphatically not a fan) with The Dark Heart of Old Havana. Rum, tobacco and seawater - I think I probably smelt like Long John Silver! I have since showered and am now in Estée Lauder Private Collection - such a beautiful sharp green floral with a mossy dry down - rather like a gentler Aromatics Elixir.

Ah, I wish August wasn't such a no go for me - the 4160s trip did sound good!

In Kenzo Flower today. Bought it on holiday and it's nice for the memories.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/10/2017 19:49

SOTD is Kiehl's Musk. I haven't worn this in ages but really do enjoy it. Perfect for a lazy Sunday.

mary thanks for asking. I have been taking a homeopathic remedy which is supposed to reduce inflammation (I know people hate homeopathy but I have had good results with it for various ailments over the years - my GP was a homeopath as well as practicing conventional medicine so I have never seen it as "woo") and it feels much more bearable. I'm seeing a dentist - not my own - on Tuesday. I'm quite scared of seeing a stranger while mine's on holiday but maybe he will spot something she doesn't see. I've been back and forth with this bloody tooth since June so there is definitely something not right.

explodingkittens · 15/10/2017 20:01

Green, fab post, thank you - it was the CdG2 I was thinking of. Am dying to get my hands on some Private Collection; agree there is a definite similarity to AE, gorgeous green mossyness.

I can't believe I've done this....but have just ordered Havana from the 4160 site. And I can blame you lot all I like but actually I clearly just need to exercise some self-restraint Grin. But it is a bargain, even as a blind buy. After all, without thinking twice I'd spend that on a bottle of wine that would only last one night and would give me a headache the next morning!

Am now in Diorissimo. It. Is. Divine. I said upthread that every time I think I don't like something, I find a perfume that changes my mind. I would never, ever have thought of lily-of-the-valley as a scent I would fall in love with, but this really is utterly, utterly lovely. It's the EDT though and not lasting long...guess I need a vintage EDP Wink

BluebellGal · 15/10/2017 20:29

Thanks for all the debrief on the 4160 workshop mrsmacnally, sounds wonderful. I’d definitely be interested in a future workshop. More to learn than create a masterpiece (don’t think that’s ever going to happen!)

I’ve decided to make my MIL an advent calendar. It’s her birthday in a few weeks so perfect timing! I think I will get brownie points for being such a lovely DIL although she is a lovely MIL and totally deserves to be spoilt.

Good luck with the job app Piam

BluebellGal · 15/10/2017 20:36

Ooh and I almost forgot. SOTD is E Coudray Rose Tuberose layered with Merchan of Venice Saffron Byzantium. I’ve had a very busy weekend finishing a report so I can take my planned annual leave day tomorrow- so ridiculous, but we’re short staffed so have done the entire project myself which has nearly done me in! I will reward myself with perfume hall perusing tomorrow!

Btw any takers for blind sampling? I’m up for it and will probably just fudge the postage issue. Declare they are perfume in original packaging. I will source decent plastic spray samplers if anyone wants to partake?

Also looking into sourcing quality perfume oils to make my own Diptyque-type candles as I have an expensive candle addiction. I get through so many this time of year. Inspiration taken from a MN thread.

BluebellGal · 15/10/2017 20:41

kittens I have CdG Floriental and it’s really fab

BluebellGal · 15/10/2017 20:56

kittens Floriental CdG is incense heavy so I think you’d like it. The name is a misleading as it’s not floral at all but deep plummy incense

MrsMacNally · 15/10/2017 22:22

So that's all good Cheap Grin. Laugh out loud moment of series so far has to be a senior manager knocking themselves out on a feature glass wall etched with the word 'Transparency'.

Yo ho Green! This weekend featured quite a lot of Harry Potter - think you are right for Dolores Umbridge with Meow! Or perhaps even Hypnotique in the decorative cat a la PiaM.

Do try it again EK - it's a good sort of synthetic wood/playful texture.

BluebellGal · 15/10/2017 22:44

I’ve been offered a free small decant!

Choice is Etat Libre D’orange - Jasmine et Cigarette

L’Artisan Parfumeur Timbuktu

Which would you choose?

MrsPestilence · 15/10/2017 22:52

Difficult decision Blue I would go for the Jasmine et Cigarette, others will disagree.

SoTD was Bombfire, it has mellowed again, where did all that smoky wood go?

Then after a shower, Covet (green), just to check I still like it.

MrsMacNally · 15/10/2017 23:01

Yup, I'd for the ELd'O. Think Timbuktu is really, really interesting, but the hot/cold thing gives me a headache.

BluebellGal · 15/10/2017 23:12

Thanks ladies Jasmine et Cigarette it is!

Puppylucky · 16/10/2017 07:24

Just received a sample of fève délicieuse which sounded intriguing. It's very pretty - a cross between Dior Addict (warm vanilla) and the nuttyness of Noir Exquis - but is a bit heavy for everyday wear

explodingkittens · 16/10/2017 07:26

Floriental sounds gorgeous bluebell, right up my street. Don't forget to fill us in on your perfume hall adventures later!

SOTD is Aedes De Venustas - expensive, rhubarby, tomatoey deliciousness. Like the smell of a billionaire's allotment. Kinda want to be back in Diorissimo, though.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 16/10/2017 08:15

Morning...Just printed out my job application.

Trying AC Emeraude Agar today. Very few reviews to be found and the ones I did weren't enthusing, but I like it. And I loathe oud normally because it just smells like poo to me! This is citrussy and woody and a bit aftershavey but not with that harsh cedary aftershave note. Am now an hour into it and like all ACs it's virtually gone, but just a nice woody skin scent lingers.

OCSockOrphanage · 16/10/2017 11:31

Bonne chance to PIAM, or should it be "in bocca al lupo"! (Not being multilingual, I had to google the Italian so I hope it's telling truth, or I shall feel like the Monty Python sketch in which the phrase book translations are mostly wrong, insulting and verging on pornographic).

papersmile · 16/10/2017 11:52

Ooh, also loving the sound of Floriental.

This morning I'm wearing Five O'clock au Gingembre. My son gave me a big hug and said I smelt like a Christmas cracker. I think that's good!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 16/10/2017 12:57

Good Luck, PIAM!

Today's choice is Rome 1963 layered with Jasmin et Cigarette. Lovely!

Floriental sounds right up my street. Smile
