Kittens I am so pleased to have found another Aromatics Elixir fan. I adore the green, mossy overload. Oh and here is a copied and pasted list of the perfumes that were in the Somerset House exhibition:
DANIELA ANDRIER – PURPLE RAIN (2015)
A sumptuous re-working of traditional iris perfumes
MARK BUXTON – COMME DES GARÇONS 2 (1999)
An ultra-modern, ink-inspired fragrance
BERTRAND DUCHAUFOUR – INCENSE: AVIGNON (2002)
An olfactory portrait of French Catholic mass
OLIVIA GIACOBETTI – EN PASSANT (2000)
A fresh, floral fragrance with a twist
LYN HARRIS – CHARCOAL (2016)
A familiar, yet unexpected, intriguing fragrance
ANTOINE LIE – SÉCRÉTIONS MAGNIFIQUES (2007)
The scent of sexual pleasure
DAVID S. MOLTZ – EL COSMICO (2015)
A sensory exploration of the Texan Desert
GEZA SCHOEN – MOLECULE 01 (2007)
The skill of science meets the art of perfume
ANDY TAUER – L’AIR DU DÉSERT MAROCAIN (2005)
A fragrance inspired by the scents of the Saharan Desert
KILLIAN WELLS – DARK RIDE (2015)
A thrilling scent simulation of a water theme-park
I think your inky one must have been the second one. I'd have happily taken home L'Air du Désert Marocain, Avignon and Purple Rain.
PIAM adding my good wishes to the many others for your job application going well. If fragrant good vibes have an influence it's got to be in the bag. Fendi sounds marvellous. So does Dune.
At £7.50 plus P&P for a 9ml I'd say The Dark Heart of Old Havana is a steal Cheap. But you know this is not the place to counsel self-restraint when it comes to gorgeous scents...
You really didn't have to be an expert to have a lovely time and produce something more than satisfactory at the 4160s workshop Mary. I am fairly rubbish at identifying individual notes.
But Sarah Mac, presiding over a host of little potion bottles like a friendly version of Professor Snape, made it much easier by giving us a succession of scent strips sprayed with individual notes - eg vetiver, vanilla, rose, galbanum etc - to sniff. So we were able to build up a pile of a favourite notes and sniff various strips together before deciding what we thought would work in our concoctions.
Only then did we start mixing up small quantities in tiny tester bottles. I made up three sample mixes before settling on the combination I felt worked for my Vipers' Outing. It was a busy day, but it really was fascinating and great fun. I'd thoroughly recommend a workshop to anyone even slightly interested in perfume.
Floofy I've got your PM, thank you. It's a pleasure.
DH being at work today I thought it was a good opportunity to experiment with layering Fathom V (DH is most emphatically not a fan) with The Dark Heart of Old Havana. Rum, tobacco and seawater - I think I probably smelt like Long John Silver! I have since showered and am now in Estée Lauder Private Collection - such a beautiful sharp green floral with a mossy dry down - rather like a gentler Aromatics Elixir.
