Fabulous list Kittens. I shall look forward to hearing about them. And enjoy your 4160s Silver. I would also love to know what you've picked.

Some sort of scent journal strikes me as a very good idea. The forgotten Diorissimo that I came across the other day is proof that I need to keep a list. I should sort out the hits and misses too because there are a few bottles I can definitely bear to live without and they're taking up valuable storage space.

Poor Sock car trouble is such a pain. Flowers Fingers still crossed for your DP Judy.

SOTD is Fior di Panna from the Perfume Society's Exquisite Essences box and you were absolutely right Bluebell - it is utterly gorgeous. It starts off with sparkling aldehydes, transforms into a delicate, pretty, soapy, powdery floral and dries down into a gentle and delicious combination of vanilla and sandalwood. The contrast between the top, heart and base notes is very striking but it remains beautiful throughout. I've been enjoying it all day and I'm sorry I have so little of the sample left.

SOTD is L'Ambre des Merveilles. Quite a sweet Amber on me. Fragrantica only lists 4 notes for this and it does seem simple compared to other scents. A warm, comforting scent though. The olfactory equivalent of snuggling under a blanket and drinking hot chocolate.

explodingkittens · 12/10/2017 08:39

SOTD is Avignon. Swoon.

littlechou · 12/10/2017 08:49

Calmwhoknows i think we have similar perfume taste!

Can I ask what your favourite daytime perfume is? I tend to buy heavy evening perfumes all the time and fancy something light but the same style as my heavy sweet musky ones if that makes sense Grin

PerfumeIsAMessage · 12/10/2017 10:11

SotD PP Poeme. I spritzed a teensy tiny drop on as I thought it might be a bit of a heavy too sweet minger. Surprisingly I like it. It reminded me instantly of both Anais Anais and Red Door and I was chuffed to see that proper perfumers who can tell these things (unlike me with my "sweet" "nice" descriptions Grin ) do compare it to Red Door. Nobody seems to like it much- Bois de Jasmine calls it a "creative and commercial failure"

After 2 hours the tiny spritz has almost gone so I can have a new SoTD!

Obsession/Dune- I would have said Dune was an ozonic, but never Obsession. Both have been important to me in the past -Obsession late 80s and Dune mid 90s. I've rediscovered the beauty of Dune thanks to firstly a sample when I thought "hmm, this is not the Dune I remember" and then OC's grandmother's decants which I snapped up and is the Dune I remember. It's one of my comfort food perfumes, and there is nothing better than clean pyjamas, a good book and a spray of Dune in the evening. I think LT was drunk when he said it was bleak, because I can think of many "bleak" perfumes but Dune to me is warm and cosy. The perfumer at SH that I was speaking to (despite working for Chanel) agreed with me that Dune was superior to Allure (the woman he was actually talking to was saying Allure was her signature, I chipped in and he agreed with me and we sent her off to sniff some Dune)

I need to bag some old Obsession because the new stuff is a shadow of its former skanky self.

I love the idea of a scent journal, and it just so happens I have a beautiful and empty Rosetta Stone journal from the British Museum sitting right in front of me. I always kept a diary (from 77-97) and religiously wrote what perfume I was wearing but now those days are gone, I think I need to note the perfume-days somewhere else.

Cheap you need to smell Miss Dior Originale, not Miss Dior. Again, the SAs will come at you with all kinds of PMs but if you persist they'll reach for the original for you. Speaking of which, whilst clearing out the perfume boxes yesterday (nothing so exciting today, I'm doing bedding ) I came across the massive FB of Miss Dior Eau de Cologne I snapped up on ebay last year and a quick search shows me one with a £226 asking price. Shock Mine was, 33 euro.

Judy, Flowers for the tooth ongoing problems.

Back to my sheets and pillowcases.

BluebellGal · 12/10/2017 11:29

Glad you liked the Fior Di Panna too Green it’s a little gem. I’m now wearing it too thanks to your reminder and thoroughly enjoying it. Only use one spray as it’s quire potent. I thought it obviously has aldehydes but notes omitt it which is strange as you can’t miss it!

Glad to hear your DH has good feedback Judy that will be a real confidence boost at least, fingers crossed it goes further. Sorry about your tooth Flowers

I keep a scent log - I use the lovely notebook sent by the Perfume Society. I write about my impressions of perfumes I’ve particularly enjoyed. The ‘meh’ ones don’t get a mention.

Badders08 · 12/10/2017 11:49

Sotd avon nightmusk - I feel the need for comfort today

IdentityRequest1 · 12/10/2017 12:58

Dries Van Noten. I love it with all my heart, but can't afford a big bottle so am sparingly spraying my 10 ml.

Badders08 · 12/10/2017 12:59

Have to say that sounds right up my street!!

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 12/10/2017 13:04

Well I've just one-clicked a multicoloured set of disposable fountain pens on Amazon to use with my log. (I'm with you on stationery kittens). The plan is one colour for the log: what it is, house, basic notes, date acquired and - if I bought it myself - price and where from. Second colour for wishlist. Third colour for daily notes - what I wore, a few comments and also some icons to summarise if I liked it, what the weather Was, how well I felt etc

Thanks for Miss Dior tips PIAM!

SOTD is L'Heure Bleue. A real grower and very very nice. The only other violetty scent I have is a sample of Tokyo Spring Blossom so will go for that tomorrow for the comparison.

teta · 12/10/2017 13:10

Wearing the lovely Silences today.Green Galbanum and oak mossy florals - yum.Its such a bargain and is so much better than no. 19.
I've also been tempted by the talk to do a sample Notino order. The only trouble I've fallen in love with yet more perfumes!

MrsPestilence · 12/10/2017 14:48

SoTd is Habanita Eau de Parfum by Molinard. A soft soapy oriental.

This place seems to be my scent log Confused am I meant to write as well, like with a real pen?

littlechou · 12/10/2017 14:52

SOTD Armani Privé - Rose D’Arabie.

Bought it ages ago as I was foolishly taken in by the limited edition one full of gold dust 🙈

SO gorgeous but I rarely wear it due to the huge amount of sparkle it leaves all over you. BUT, I’ve discovered if I leave it laid on its side for a couple of days I can Spritz away quickly and avoid the sparkles.

It’s one of my fave scents and I’m tempted to buy the standard non sparkly one but it’s not cheap! 😬

littlechou · 12/10/2017 14:56

I was taking perfumes with mum today and she said she wore Soir De Paris in the 70s and it’s probably her favourite scent. That was (only just) before my time so I’m really interested to smell it to see what my mum loved when she was my age. Has anyone smelt it? Have any memories of it? I’ve googled and it’s still available online

Going to treat mum for Xmas Smile

Auldspinster · 12/10/2017 15:30

I've got quite a few on your list kittens.

MrsMacNally · 12/10/2017 18:03

Yes, that was exactly what I was thinking Pest.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 12/10/2017 18:23

Soooo. Poeme having disappeared I thought I'd better have a closer sniff at Mitsouko.

Now, I only have the PP version, but I'm not feeling the love. I feel the like well enough. It's not a scrubber. But it's a sweet fizzer again. Is it the peach that does this? Looking at the reviews it's compared to both Y and Yvresse and I get the sweet fizzy thing with them as well. I obviously need to try the real thing just to see...

Am now showered and in honour of our conversation upthread am in vintage Dune. Heaven. And so not bleak.

Oh, and I accidentally bought 32 vintage Avon soaps. Shock

Judydreamsofhorses · 12/10/2017 18:50

SOTD is MMM Fireplace again. Really loving this just now. Almost the weekend, and I am so ready for it!

OnTheSherry · 12/10/2017 19:30

Thread moving fast!

In Diorissimmo today. Feel like posh girl Grin. Lovely change from the Oriental-Vanilla fest I've been having the last few weeks.

Love the idea of a fragrance diary, PIAM. A 2018 resolution, perhaps.

Happy Thursday scent-seekers Flowers

GreenPolishToGo · 12/10/2017 19:58

How do you buy 32 vintage Avon soaps accidentally?! Grin I think of Mitsouko as warm and spicy rather than sweet and fizzy so I would try to sniff the real thing PIAM.

Littlechou sadly it sounds as though the current version of Soir de Paris is very different from the one your mother remembers. If you look here you'll find a detailed comparison of the vintage and the new versions. I have the post 1991 version, and from a sharp peach opening it turns into a pleasant floral rather reminiscent of L'Air du Temps and then dries into a musky skin scent. I like it but it isn't one to set the world alight. Vintage Evening in Paris seems to be hard to come by in the UK. I do look periodically but the only bottles I've seen have been really silly money.

Flowers for you Badders. It sounds like it's one of those days.

Cheap vintage Miss Dior at a reasonable price isn't hard to find on eBay if you're patient. Look for the houndstooth check packaging.

The Perfume Society is on a roll with the Exquisite Essences box because I also really like the Penhaligon's Equinox Bloom sample which is my SOTD. It is a delightful gourmand meant to suggest high tea accompanied by the scent of a bouquet of spring flowers. I also get marmalade and a faint wisp of tobacco so it's making me think of high tea in a posh hotel with Paddington Bear!

I love L'Heure Bleue and Silences and Silk, Lace & Chocolate...The days of serial scent monogamy are far behind me.

OCSockOrphanage · 12/10/2017 20:07

Oddly, today has been completely unscented. I have no car, so cannot leave the house except to walk SockDog. I have spent the day cleaning (very long overdue, I should say) so SoTD is Dettol Laundry Freshener and HG Tile cleaner. It's going to be several days before my clutch gets to the top of garage list, so expect more information than you ever wanted on cleaning product smells.

OCSockOrphanage · 12/10/2017 20:10

I do have several bottles of Zoflora, for housekeeping thread fans, so all is not lost. Sadly there isn't a sandalwood/Dries van Noten option.

Badders08 · 12/10/2017 20:23

Mmm....i think mitsuoko is warm and spicy too. Have you smelt the real version?
Have enjoyed wearing nightmusk today
Supposed to be visiting family tomorrow but.....meh.
I could TOTALLY accidentally buy 28 vintage soaps 😁

GreenPolishToGo · 12/10/2017 20:47

Yoohoo Cheap you can buy the Atelier Cologne Advent Calendar from Selfridges! £60 and no customs charges. Smile

OP posts:
MrsPestilence · 12/10/2017 20:49
does perfume, in a chaotic way.

SoTD is now Clarins Bain relaxant. It is better than badedas. (Maybe this would go with Aura) OOh and Neal's Yard wild rose beauty balm. Busy day gardening.

Mitsouko, warm, spicy, soapy, bit of oakmoss, often changes. I think it is very reliant on skin chemistry.

32 soaps PiaM ? Accidently? Confused
