Soap instead of shower gel

Just wanted to say that based on a thread I read on here probably a few months ago, I swapped my shower gel for soap (I think the original thread was about deodorant, as OP felt a bit whiffy not long after showering, but lots of people recommended switching shower gel for soap instead).
Anyway, the difference is remarkable! I went to a stupidly hot soft play with DS at the weekend, where I had to follow him round the bloody playframe for an hour, (which is a whole other thread!), and still felt pretty fresh that evening, which I never would have been before. Same for the mornings, I usually wake up feeling a bit stinky because I seem to get very hot overnight, but no more! I'm just using Simple soap bars, two for £1. Amazing!

Been to to maxx, a nice French violet soap for dds stocking and two petit Olivier orange blossom, delicious. They only had a huge locking shower tray though.

wineandworkout · 22/10/2017 19:42

I bought soap today because of this thread! For those asking about Knights Castile, I got some today in Savers.

AuntyElle · 22/10/2017 23:39

I finally actually tried soap today: used no deodrant, had hot flushes but... no BO! Quite amazing! Smile

Small update on dd's hair with the shampoo bar I mentioned upthread.

Hair is definitely less oily, although she did have to wash more often due to hairspray, gel etc from dance competitions. But it is lathering up a lot easier now. And her hair just seems so much thicker. She has really fine hair, it definitely seems fuller.

I seem to think that Nesti Dante soaps bring out different ranges. I had two which I bought last year (or could have been the year before).. Confused, one is Iris and the other is Peach and Melon. Whilst out this weekend, I was looking at those available now, and neither of these were available to buy. The first one I had, I cannot remember what is was, so I thought if I sniff the familiar looking ones, I would remember the smell. No such luck. The only one that I recall seeing previously, is the Lavender.

I am using the Iris now, and it is so lovely, I hope I can find it again.

murphys · 23/10/2017 12:13

Why, oh why did I go and check Google for the soaps..... now I see Nesti Dante do candles too.........

macnab · 23/10/2017 12:23

Thanks so much for all the suction-soapdish recommendations!

For those who were wondering, my order from PureNuffStuff arrived and the soaps themselves were packaged in paper and cardboard (one was wrapped in paper and the other was in a small thin cardboard sleeve) Then they were both wrapped in thicker cardboard and that was then wrapped in black plastic. So I think pretty eco-friendly. Neither of them smell how I thought they would though, I'm finding it hard to track down a soap that smells right for me (such a prima donna!!) but I'll still use it (one is for DH) and they have such lovely ingredients it's bound to be good for my skin.

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/10/2017 12:40

Tried out one of my Dr Bronner soaps at the weekend. Lots of lovely rich creamy lather, despite water so hard here that it can almost stand up on its own.

MotherofPearl · 23/10/2017 12:59

That’s good to hear Bore. I love Dr Bronner but I’m in a soft water area.

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/10/2017 13:09

I bought the Rose and the Almond ones.

Have tried Rose, which is not all that strong a fragrance. Almond smells heavenly through the wrapping.

I usually use L'Occitane and still have two enormous bars of that.

Want some of the Neste whatsit ones but really can't justify at the moment. It will take a couple of years to work through my current stash!

Ollivander84 · 23/10/2017 13:52

I've just bought an orange and cinnamon one in TK Maxx. Smells amazing

Ollivander84 · 23/10/2017 14:31

These are the two I got. Possibly not the purest but I'm obsessed with orange and cinnamon and verbena! The verbena is a little round one

Soap instead of shower gel
CiderwithBuda · 23/10/2017 16:44

I've got that verbena one Ollivander. It's nice. See it a few times. Cinnamon and orange sounds amazing. And I have to go into town tomorrow.............

DH has already said I'm getting soap for Xmas, it was a standing joke between us for years until I persuaded him to to get me shower gel. First year we were together he went into Body Shop and bought every colour of soap they had and wrapped them all separately.

MotherofPearl · 23/10/2017 18:37

The almond Dr B is amazing. That’s the trouble with soap though - takes ages to get through a bar! Too damn thrifty if you ask me. I’m desperate to open my first bar of Nesti Dante (lavender), if I can ever get through my current soap. Grin

slalomsuki · 23/10/2017 21:30

Another soap convert here. Bought some off a stall at a fete and liked the smell especially a baby powder smelling one. They lather well and leave a lovely lingering smell after the shower. I feel cleaner and less slimy than when I use shower gel but I can see a problem looms no at Christmas when bath sets are a go to present by relatives.

BluebellGal · 23/10/2017 23:30

MN is singlehandedly reversing the decline in soap bar sales! Apparently millennials don’t buy bars of soap, along with fabric conditioner and many other items (insurance, lottery tickets).

Have always used soap as I figured out in my late teens that shower gel doesn’t get you as clean and just kinda washes away.

murphys · 24/10/2017 06:52

Motherofpearl

It is quite acceptable to have more than one on the go at the same time. Grin

I looked at the bath soap holder yesterday... had a bit of a grin to myself as there are 4 bars on there. Nesti at the bottom (biggest atm), Lux (used for nether regions), dd shampoo bar, and then my face bar. Its like the Leaning Tower of Pisa in the bathroom. Then there is the shower, and the other bathroom. Blush

Ishouldbedoingsomething · 24/10/2017 07:04

I love soap - have told my DC to buy me nice ones for my Christmas present - figured it’s a good pocket money present and also an easy way to convert them to using soap not shower gel - bet they come back with a bar or two for themselves to use Smile

Ishouldbedoingsomething · 24/10/2017 07:05

Also - can everyone stop posting links - it’s costing me a fortune Grin

Beautifullymixed · 24/10/2017 10:31

Definitely ok to have more than one bar on the go at a time!
I always have my black African soap in it's own special black soap dish Smile
Then on the shower caddy, brought especially for it's large soap rack, there is a mix of imperial leather, dettol soap and the last of the Nesti Dante lavender soap.
I currently have nivea soap on it's way to me via Amazon too.

We all alternate daily, and my ds's love a soapy shower. You can't get them out!
My d's11 especially loved the Nesti Dante soap, and kept smelling his skin.
I am keeping both him, and ds13 enthusiastic and up to date with this thread, because I love how fresh and clean they smell! Grin

Beautifullymixed · 24/10/2017 10:35

For myself, as long as my hormones rampage, and leave me hot and sweaty, I will always have a bar or two maybe three or four of soap on the go.
I just don't feel clean without it.

dontcallmelen · 24/10/2017 13:27

Hi another avid soap user here, found it has made a feel difference in the softness of my skin & definitely feel much fresher throughout the day.
Not sure if is allowed to mention websites, but my friend makes her own handmade soaps/moisturiser/hand creams she is based in Kent & does the craft markets, she is also setting up classes teaching soap making, if anyone wants her contact details PM me & I will give contact details.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 24/10/2017 15:22

I'm going away for the weekend, so I was going to buy a soap dish, but have decided instead to treat myself to one of those Roger and Gallet posh soaps that come in their own travel box

amazonianwoman · 24/10/2017 23:21

Whoever recommended Nesti Dante soap, divine! Huge, smells lovely, feels lovely Smile

Tootyfilou · 25/10/2017 00:20

This thread makes me happy!
I became a soap convert after reading the original soap thread (baaa) and totally agree that you feel so much fresher, in fact the whole bathing/showering experience is better.
I love the deferred gratification of knowing there is a new bar waiting for me!

OrlandaFuriosa · 25/10/2017 00:41

Anyone know a nice jasmine soap? Floris no longer makes it ( weep) and I'm running out..
