Soap instead of shower gel

Just wanted to say that based on a thread I read on here probably a few months ago, I swapped my shower gel for soap (I think the original thread was about deodorant, as OP felt a bit whiffy not long after showering, but lots of people recommended switching shower gel for soap instead).
Anyway, the difference is remarkable! I went to a stupidly hot soft play with DS at the weekend, where I had to follow him round the bloody playframe for an hour, (which is a whole other thread!), and still felt pretty fresh that evening, which I never would have been before. Same for the mornings, I usually wake up feeling a bit stinky because I seem to get very hot overnight, but no more! I'm just using Simple soap bars, two for £1. Amazing!

How about this one Orlanda?

www.theenglishsoapcompany.com/product/jasmine-bath-soap/ haven't tried it myself though.

Or Bronnley do an Orange & Jasmine one.

zippyswife · 25/10/2017 08:41

Great. I love being a sheep. I’ve run out of deodorant so will try soap (Lilly of the valley- my mum got it for me from France) and put it to a rigorous test!

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/10/2017 08:54

Are we a quiche yet? Grin

dontcallmelen · 25/10/2017 11:48

These do jasmine, also lovely rose one as well, www.louloubella.co.uk

wonderstuff · 25/10/2017 11:54

Tried this, I’m definitely fresher, however my bathroom smells like my grandmothers used to. Which I guess isn’t a bad thing.

StoatofDisarray · 25/10/2017 12:00

I use Dr Bronner's Castile soaps. They last for ages and smell lovely (or if you prefer the non-scented one, they don't smell at all), and they leave you feeling clean without being overly dry. Plus, you don't end up with another empty plastic bottle in a landfill site.

CauliflowerSqueeze · 25/10/2017 12:44

Dr Bronner peppermint. Loooooovely

CiderwithBuda · 25/10/2017 12:57

Bore - not sure about a quiche. Maybe a cake. As is a cake of soap as it's sometimes call d rather than a bar.

I'm going to Boston tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing if I can find some nice soaps. Want to get some nice 'boy' ones for DS and DH's bathroom.

Umm, I have a bit of a problem. I just did a tidy of the linen cupboard-there is; six packs of - Knights castile, coal tar, imperial leather, camomile and vanilla and sea kelp from waitrose, two Dutch ones, a crab tree and Evelyn lavender, farmers market sandalwood, and (this I think is well seasoned by now) a cosmetics to go sandbar. I know there's more in my knicker drawer. Oh and the two I bought from tk maxx this week.
It's all your fault.

CauliflowerSqueeze · 25/10/2017 13:40

I have this kind of issue with shampoos.
I feel your pain.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 25/10/2017 13:55

Interestingly DH has always been a soap rather than shower gel man, and hates deodorant, but still doesn't smell. Now I know why!

Whereas I used to be shower gel plus Sure 24 hour anti perspirant and still be a little whiffy at the end of the day.

I'm still using moisturising shower gel for the rest of me, but pits and bits are very happy with soap.

huphep · 25/10/2017 13:59

How do you all get sufficiently lathered with soap?!

BaDumShh · 25/10/2017 14:05

I saw someone mention on this thread about bio washing powder a few weeks back. I’ve always used non-bio, and for the last year or two certain items of clothing (mainly Gym stuff and some tops/shirts) have constantly smelt of damp. No matter what temperature I wash them in, how quickly I hang them up to dry in a well ventilated room etc. It was driving me bonkers and making me so paranoid.

Been washing the clothes in bio powder for the last week or so, and everything smells daisy fresh! No damp smell, nothing!

Thank you to whoever said about using bio!

MotherofPearl · 25/10/2017 15:46

Fuckery, I see no problem. But then I too have a soap stockpile, as well as a huge stash of other beauty products and cosmetics. I call it an addiction being prepared.

Strummerville · 25/10/2017 16:21

a cosmetics to go sandbar

Wow! That's the company that used to be Lush, right? That soap must be over 20 years old? I'm sure I first shopped at Lush in the late 90s!

How do you all get sufficiently lathered with soap?!

I use an exfoliating glove, get it nice and wet, rub the soap into it, then lather up. One glovefull does my whole body with lots of lather.

I loooove soap. Currently using a TK Maxx coffee-and-chocolate one. Creamy deliciousness.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/10/2017 16:54

Soap dish recs, please? Am struggling to find any with holes.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 25/10/2017 17:29

I saw these blast from the past soap holders today in my local very traditional chemists

Lush Christmas Rocker soap is one to avoid, smells like semen. lovely! (I always thought jizz smelt like cake mix)
Strummer I'm thinking it's cracking in for 30! It's like rock. It used to be fab for rough skin. Not so good on delicate bits.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/10/2017 19:00

Thanks, Squff, but not really what I'm after.

angrymummy2018 · 26/10/2017 09:07

chocolatespiders I'm loving the charcoal soap. It really gives my face a deep clean if you know what I mean. I use their plain one but it looks like they've got a really good offer on for the scented one: guiltless-skin.com/collections/special-offers/products/charcoal

JustWonderingZ · 26/10/2017 22:31

Thank you to whoever recommended Black African Soap. I have never even heard of such a thing before. But oh my goodness it is so lovely. It treats my dry skin with love. My children have been coming up to me telling me I smell nice. And the best of it - took a shower in the morning, then spent the day doing housework, topped by two hours in the gym, just got home - and I smell like roses! Thank you, thank you the kind MNetter whoever you are!

JustWonderingZ · 26/10/2017 22:36

Nesti Dante is also very good for dry sensitive skin, it actually improved my skin. It is so gentle and not drying in the slightest.

The cheap soaps I used before, made my skin feel like sandpaper, Palmolive or Imperial Leather ughh.... Honestly, don't bother with anything cheap if you have got sensitive skin.

Heard good recommendation about Roger and Gallett, but I found their soaps drying and irritating. It could be the strong perfume they add or maybe just the ingredients. I don't think I will buy from them again Hmm

chocolatespiders · 26/10/2017 22:58

Thanks angry I will try it.
Spent half hour looking for nesti dante soap in John Lewis today. Eventually found it by the tills!!
Also went to the body shop to buy the wash cloth recommended.

Have sat looking at the giant bar of soap and can't wait to use it. Even the man on the till commented how lovely it smelt!
