Soap instead of shower gel

Just wanted to say that based on a thread I read on here probably a few months ago, I swapped my shower gel for soap (I think the original thread was about deodorant, as OP felt a bit whiffy not long after showering, but lots of people recommended switching shower gel for soap instead).
Anyway, the difference is remarkable! I went to a stupidly hot soft play with DS at the weekend, where I had to follow him round the bloody playframe for an hour, (which is a whole other thread!), and still felt pretty fresh that evening, which I never would have been before. Same for the mornings, I usually wake up feeling a bit stinky because I seem to get very hot overnight, but no more! I'm just using Simple soap bars, two for £1. Amazing!

Nesting Dante soap is amazing.

Firstaidnovice · 04/10/2017 14:59

Thanks dame. Have now disappeared down a soap shaped rabbit hole on the internet!
Bilben glad I'm not the only one who is excited about soapy showers. Just taken a big sniff of my armpit (I'm a home worker, it's all fine!) and still soapy fresh from this morning. Mmmm.

I swapped recently, I now use one of the dr organic soaps. DP thought I'd lost the plot until he could still smell the soap on me 24 hours later - and I commute to London!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/10/2017 15:03

Just realised my typo, LOL@ nestingGrin

I ask for it for Xmas and I buy it from TK Maxx when it's there. I imagine it's bought at John Lewis or Debenhams.

User5trillion · 04/10/2017 15:06

I swapped to soap earlier this year as part of my frugality drive, it lasts so much longer and I feel cleaner.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/10/2017 15:08

Roger &Gallet is lovely too.

OCSockOrphanage · 04/10/2017 15:26

Nesti Dante soap (the Italian Cypress is our family favourite) is bought from escentual.com. I bulk buy, once a year.

Ollivander84 · 04/10/2017 16:13

Lots of nesti dante on the fragrance direct website

Strummerville · 04/10/2017 16:34

I've been using soap for years because of the packaging. Didn't feel right buying shower gel in plastic bottles when soap in a bit of paper would last longer and do the job. Have turned into a bit of a soapaholic and now on a self-imposed ban while I work through the soap mountain.

I have lots of Nesti Dante (after that thread!) and several l'Occitane, plus varied random TK Maxx buys.

squoosh · 04/10/2017 16:47

That Nesti Dante soap looks lovely. Never heard of it before.

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/10/2017 16:50

I use pears, cheap, lovely smell and much better than shower gel.

ScarlettDarling · 04/10/2017 16:54

I use baby soap, always have, and I love it. I use the baby head to toe wash as shower gel too. Pears is gorgeous as well.

allmycats · 04/10/2017 16:57

loccitane soaps are lovely and last for ages and ages, initially it looks too expensive nut they last for ever

expatinscotland · 04/10/2017 17:03

We use Nivea soap. It's gorgeous! Haven't used shower gel in years, it's expensive. I get Shower Fairy soap from LUSH for DD2 for Christmas.

Blogwoman · 04/10/2017 17:10

I've done the same! It was the prompt I needed to ditch the shower gels & all that unnecessary plastic. Still surprised by how different my skin feels after a shower compared to the gels. My DD is finding soap much kinder to her sensitive skin. Enjoying a lovely bar from Lush. Our grandmothers would laugh at the thought of us discovering soap I think!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/10/2017 17:14

It's quite shocking when you start focusing on the plastic bottles, isn't it?

PickAChew · 04/10/2017 17:16

We love lush soap.have parsley porridge on the go at the moment. Mostly use it on my hands as I don't tolerate handwash but occasionally take it into the shower with me.

Dairymilkmuncher · 04/10/2017 17:23

I swapped after "that" read too and noticed a huge difference BUT it goes all goopy, how do I stop that? It's imperial leather I'm using, is it the type of soap or is my bathroom too wet?

Top tip, bought in bulk and kept the spares that aren't in the shower in our clothes drawer to make our clothes smell fresher

DrDreReturns · 04/10/2017 17:30

I've always used soap. Usually Imperial leather, if I'm treating myself I'll get a bar of Pears.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/10/2017 17:30

Do you have a soap dish so it drains?

SuburbanRhonda · 04/10/2017 17:44

I've never used shower gel or hand wash because if the plastic bottles. Waitrose usd to do amazing pure white soaps in amazing fragrances but they stopped doing them last year.

Tiger sells a very similar soap and they're very reasonable.

MulhuddartDrive · 04/10/2017 18:06

I love soap too. I put one inside a sisal and cotton mitten so I get a great lather and scrub at the same time. I'd happily do away with bottles of stuff only that bubble bath is a really useful way of getting the DC clean on their occasional bath.

Ktown · 04/10/2017 18:11

I use bar soap on face, pits n bits then a tiny amount of shower gel elsewhere.
No spots no blackheads and no other issues.
Bar soap just went out of fashion due to marketing.
