Soap instead of shower gel

Just wanted to say that based on a thread I read on here probably a few months ago, I swapped my shower gel for soap (I think the original thread was about deodorant, as OP felt a bit whiffy not long after showering, but lots of people recommended switching shower gel for soap instead).
Anyway, the difference is remarkable! I went to a stupidly hot soft play with DS at the weekend, where I had to follow him round the bloody playframe for an hour, (which is a whole other thread!), and still felt pretty fresh that evening, which I never would have been before. Same for the mornings, I usually wake up feeling a bit stinky because I seem to get very hot overnight, but no more! I'm just using Simple soap bars, two for £1. Amazing!

What's the packaging like on the pure nuff soaps when they send it to you? I changed to soap because of the plastics issue but prefer to buy from Waitrose or farmers markets as when I've bought by post it just gets sent wrapped in bubble wrap which kind of defeats the purpose for me

Rainorshine the Dove Beauty Bar contains a detergent Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate - it's not technically a soap. Just trying to keep the info clear on this thread.

I've been using charcoal soap from Guiltless Skin on my face. They don't use palm oil and no plastic packaging. Also like that it's hand made.

Is anyone else using charcoal? I found it weird at first but thought i'd give it a try after reading about all the benefits.

chocolatespiders · 20/10/2017 11:34

Not heard of charcoal soap. How have you found it?

whiskyowl · 20/10/2017 11:35

I just started using a vegetable soap from TK Maxx, inspired by this thread, and I feel loads cleaner! Thank you for starting it!

macnab · 20/10/2017 13:10

Oh god I'm losing the will to live with my stupid bloody soap-holders Angry

Ok they were cheap, but I really need suction cup ones I can't start drilling holes into the tiles! They just will not stay on. They're stainless steel, so when they fall they make the most almighty clatter!

Can anyone recommend a good soap dish, preferably a suction one that will STAY PUT but otherwise something that will sit on side of bath and keep the soap from going all icky...

Sparklefloof · 20/10/2017 13:17

Sorry for TMI but I normally have issues with sweating too much, even in cold weather (no BO but I get paranoid about odours). I'm currently studying for a few months abroad in a very hot and humid country. Read this thread (especially wrt soap properly removing deodorant residue) and started using soap to shower.

Wow! Whilst everyone gets sticky, there's no smells and if anything my armpits don't really sweat much (deodorant working better maybe?) Huzzah!

geekaMaxima · 20/10/2017 15:41

Juan sorry, missed your question earlier. Pure Nuff Stuff wrap products in paper or cardboard but I can't remember what I've had as p&p packaging. I can't say for sure it's not bubble wrap.

You could give them a call and ask? It's a pretty small operation so whoever answers the phone is quite likely also the person who packs up online sales.

PurplePillowCase · 20/10/2017 16:02

weleda soaps are also nice.
lovely fragrances and organic

Juancornetto · 20/10/2017 16:41

Thanks geeka, will do Smile

Knitella · 20/10/2017 20:56

macnab - I love a simple slotted dish on corner of bath that lets the soap dry out. I have a bamboo one, not exactly this pic but like it.

This one macnab.

Hasn’t fallen off at all. You can rinse the soap tray really easily and it has a plug that you can leave in or out.

PrancingQueen · 20/10/2017 23:15

Macnab I found a fantastic soap holder in TK Maxx. My shower area is fully tiled and this thing has a lever that practically sucks it onto the wall. It’ll still be there when they demolish the place I think!
No link, but it was £5 or £6 and it’s got a chrome basket that’s easy to clean. You can also fit a massive bar of soap in it Grin

PaintingOwls · 20/10/2017 23:34

I joined the bandwagon and added soap to my Ocado delivery, and Petite Olivier lavender soap, Wright's coal tar soap and Imperial Leather came today.

I showered using the latter two and oh my goodness - I feel like this is the first time in my life that I am clean Halloween Blush

The lavender has been stuffed among our t-shirts for seasoning. DP seems to be on board with all this too!

battenbergbutterfly · 21/10/2017 10:16

I’ve swapped here too! Use the Nesti Dante stuff from Amazon and love it, the whole family are converts

TheMightyMing · 21/10/2017 10:30

I'm still banging on about this! After switching from liquid pods to soap powder ( Bold 2 in 1), I've just walked on from the gym and the house smells of lovely fresh washing! My husband always used to complain that our washing smelt fusty. With a sweaty teenage DS as well, I was forever rewashing his clothes.

I've also just got out of the shower after a good old scrub with Dettol soap, just the job after a killer gym session.

Jesscake is my woman of the year!

TheMightyMing · 21/10/2017 10:34

Macnab - are you anywhere near a b and m bargains store? I bought two Beldray suction soap dishes £2 99 each, absolutely brilliant, I've stuck to my tiles and they don't move!

wizzywig · 21/10/2017 10:37

Just adding my 2 pence into the conversation: co-ops pure veg soap. Bubbles and lovely lather

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 21/10/2017 10:42

I have become a soap evangelist! I was talking to a year 11 boy at work (he spends more time on skin and hair care than me) and we went from shampoo to shower gel to soap. I was as tactful as I can be (with teens you do subtle and they either don't listen (as you are old and know nothing) or they pick up on the slightest nuance and take umbrage) and I was saying how clean and fresh soap leaves you especially after sport. He came to find me later to ask where you buy it (!) and which one is best! Hallelujah!
I remember a tip about shampoo bars- orange nets. Put it in, hang it up. I guess it could be exfoliating. 😳

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 21/10/2017 10:44

Ming-I got one, falls down every bloody hour.
And on my last post, when I say sport, that's obviously not me! But he is.

QueenofLouisiana · 21/10/2017 10:50

I’ve jumped on this passing bandwagon and it’s been a bit of a revelation. Definitely more effective.

I’m using Shield soap- it’s nice and fresh. Anyone using charcoal soap on their face? Is it ok for sensitive skin?

AuntyElle · 21/10/2017 11:44

OhWhatFuckery that is so sweet, especially that he came back to ask you which one etc Smile

JustWonderingZ · 21/10/2017 21:22

Tatkraft Megalock Soap Dish Holder (from amazon), can't seem to include the link in the message

This soap holder attached to the wall securely. Make sure you are happy with the position as we found it v difficult to detach from the wall once on! Clean the tile with White Spirit first though. Looks stylish, soap dries v quickly. Very pleased with it Smile

BorisTrumpsLair · 22/10/2017 10:35

Interesting everyone moving back to soap.

I've done this lately too but because I'm trying to buy less stuff in plastic.

snozzlemaid · 22/10/2017 12:32

Had a tidy up of dd’s room yesterday. She has quite a beauty stash and we found two body shop soaps and a gorgeous one from lush, which she has kindly donated to me.
Can’t wait to start them.
