Soap instead of shower gel

Just wanted to say that based on a thread I read on here probably a few months ago, I swapped my shower gel for soap (I think the original thread was about deodorant, as OP felt a bit whiffy not long after showering, but lots of people recommended switching shower gel for soap instead).
Anyway, the difference is remarkable! I went to a stupidly hot soft play with DS at the weekend, where I had to follow him round the bloody playframe for an hour, (which is a whole other thread!), and still felt pretty fresh that evening, which I never would have been before. Same for the mornings, I usually wake up feeling a bit stinky because I seem to get very hot overnight, but no more! I'm just using Simple soap bars, two for £1. Amazing!

There are so many replies on here so I apologise if I have missed it. Why is dove not real soap? I often find soaps leave a weird after feel - does that make sense? Where as dove doesn't

Can anyone recommend a shampoo bar? Like soap but for hair? I’ve got one from Lush but I think it has SLS which can irritate my hands.

slowsloth · 05/02/2018 22:36

HildaSnibbs I like one from Funky Soap. I have their Lavender one which is nice and I use their conditioner bar too.
I also have one from Friendly Soap but it doesn't agree with my hair as well as the Funky Soap one. Maybe I need to give the Friendly Soap bar another go because I really do like their products and the price is good too.

I also have eczema and thought soap would ruin me but it hasn’t so far (3 months in, various soaps, still occasionally using shower gel).

AuntyElle · 05/02/2018 22:37

The main ingredient in Dove bars is Sodium lauroyl isethionate which is a detergent (as found in shower gel) rather than soap, ThaiRedCurry.

HildaSnibbs · 05/02/2018 22:45

Thanks slowsloth I’ll look those up.

AuntyElle · 05/02/2018 22:45

Someone on here really recommend these Hilda: www.purenuffstuff.co.uk/products/Hair-Body-Bar-Peppermint?cat=64
(I haven’t got around to ordering one yet.) And someone else said just use your normal soap as shampoo.

SarahBeeney · 05/02/2018 23:22

Just ordered some FriendlySoap.
I have got quite a huge stockpile to get through. So hard to not keep buying more and more!

noodlezoodle · 05/04/2018 18:59

Thanks to this thread I've just bought an enormous bar of Nesti Dante Cypress soap and it smells AMAZING. First day of using it so we'll see if I feel any different.

Thanks to all the excitement on here about soap I tried it towards the end of last year. I can't see me going back to shower gel now! Probably TMI (sorry!) I'm very prone to athletes foot, I think it's because they get very sweaty. Always worst over winter because I always have shoes/socks /slippers on but not a suggestion of it this year. Winner Smile

FoofFighter · 05/04/2018 21:38

Temporarily using shower gel as away visiting, and I stink!
Can't wait to get home to my soap!!!

battenbergbutterfly · 05/04/2018 21:49

Cussons soap is lovely.

kirkandpetal · 18/04/2018 15:00

So I made the move to soap, but I'm afraid for me, I'm going back to shower gel in the shower. Keeping soap for the wash basins though. I just didn't like how dry it was making my skin after showering, and I tried a few different ones.

Piramida110 · 16/06/2018 22:30

I got terrible allergic reaction to dove soap,my dermatologist told me that she have loads of patients with bad reactions to dove, flooded by chemicals. I prefer Wright's coal tar soap bar.

Piramida110 · 16/06/2018 22:31

You true,dove is a rubbish

littlebillie · 16/06/2018 23:02

I've used soap all my life and grew up using sunlight soap, now as it's no longer made I use anything unscented as I can use it all over. I am a bit speedy on body lotions as they are worth adding perfume

welshmist · 16/07/2018 12:36

Well while Radox are slugging it out sexist wise, we are all fragrant here.

Can I ask a question - does anyone know of any soap that doesn't smell weird after a few times use? Palmolive and a Tesco own bar I've recently used go weird after a few washes - like you can smell the fat base of the soap.

I currently use dove but I know that's technically not real soap, would like to try some real soap that doesn't go fatty smelly.

Wow yogimum what a lot of soap threads!
I have contributed to many of them as I am a passionate soap user, but never would I pay £11.95 for a single bar!
Jog on!

TheSpottedZebra · 02/01/2019 13:34

Yay! Obvious New year soapy spamming!
