Soap instead of shower gel

Just wanted to say that based on a thread I read on here probably a few months ago, I swapped my shower gel for soap (I think the original thread was about deodorant, as OP felt a bit whiffy not long after showering, but lots of people recommended switching shower gel for soap instead).
Anyway, the difference is remarkable! I went to a stupidly hot soft play with DS at the weekend, where I had to follow him round the bloody playframe for an hour, (which is a whole other thread!), and still felt pretty fresh that evening, which I never would have been before. Same for the mornings, I usually wake up feeling a bit stinky because I seem to get very hot overnight, but no more! I'm just using Simple soap bars, two for £1. Amazing!

Payitforward55 · 13/10/2017 22:23

Just back from TK Maxx bought charcoalogy with bamboo and a soap dish Grin (soap is black though Confused)

Ollivander84 · 13/10/2017 22:33

Pay - I have the liquid version of that, it's nice

ginandtonicly · 13/10/2017 22:41

So joining this thread as DH has bought me some Chanel coco mademoiselle soap with his boots points... he didn’t have enough points for the perfume so got soap instead..

How do I keep it from going rancid/ losing its amazing smell?

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/10/2017 23:39

It won't go rancid if you keep it dry. The smell should last a looooong time!

ginandtonicly · 13/10/2017 23:51

@BoreOfWhabylon do I just dry it off? Sorry to be thick!

PurplePillowCase · 13/10/2017 23:54

just put in on the soap dish.
it will dry out between uses.

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/10/2017 00:15

Yes, what Purple said. Soap dish with holes in the bottom so it doesn't sit in wetness.

If you season it by leaving it unwrapped in your underwear drawer for a couple of months first it will last much longer.

Dapplegrey2 · 14/10/2017 00:24

Good idea to put on body brush or use for washing delicates.
I keep meaning to throw the slivers away but then I think, oh I'll just have one last bath with it.

xqwertyx · 14/10/2017 00:28

I have done this for years - i use shower gel as normal all over, but i always finish off with soap on my pits and feet. I think a lot of shower gels have moisturising agents in them that leave a layer on your skin, not great for pits when they sweat and maybe it stops antiperspirants penetrating the pores. I imagine it is a bit like puting moisturising cream on your pits, antiperspirant on top and going out for the day, doesnt go down well if you like to have a good sweat like me.

Tooold
I use a clean flannel each day. I feel like I’ve gone back to my childhood!

Fozzleyplum · 14/10/2017 09:08

Another long time soap addict here. I use mine with scrubby gloves from the pound shop, which I wash in the machine. My favourites are Le Petit Marseillais, Crabtree and Evelyn Jojoba (Amazon does good deals on this) and whatever I can find in TK Maxx.

Toooldtobearsed · 14/10/2017 11:13

PrancingQueen thanks 😊

I think i will try that. I know I sounded ridiculous saying i didnt want to use flannels or scrunchies, for me, it is just the practicality. I only do a wash twice a week, so cant just fling flannels in the wash basket, I just need to get into the habit of hand washing and sticking on a radiator instead.

If soap is as lovely as everyone says, it will be worth it 😆

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2017 12:58

I've just bought the Waitrose morrocan rose soap- oh my,it's gorgeous!!

3luckystars · 14/10/2017 13:02

Sorry for my stupidity now but what are you using with the soap to rub it on to yourself?

Just your hands?

I’m buying some anyway after reading this thread. Thank you!

thewheelsonthebuz · 14/10/2017 13:08

How do you 'season' soap?? What's the science behind it?!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2017 13:17

Use it as you would use shower gel.

3luckystars · 14/10/2017 13:31

Ok but it’s not runny!

I’ll give it a go and see how I get on.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2017 13:38

Hold soap under water ,rub on flannel, scrunchy,or lather up and use hands. It's really not hardGrin I'm not rolling my eyes at you ,really I'm not!!

3luckystars · 14/10/2017 13:41

Roll away, it’s ok !
Thanks for explaining, I will give it a try.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2017 13:43

MotherofPearl · 14/10/2017 13:47

20% off Dr Bronner soaps on Ocado at the moment. The almond one is amazing but the rose is also great.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 14/10/2017 13:51

I'm a recent convert to soap- kept getting eczema flare ups from shower gel so switched to soap which didn't have SLS etc.

My skin is loads better which I find interesting as I always assumed soap would be too drying! I feel very clean and have discovered lots of lovely soaps.

neveradullmoment99 · 14/10/2017 14:55

ive always used soap unless someone has gifted me some shower stuff. I rarely ever buy shower gel unless on holiday. I love soap.
