Soap instead of shower gel

Just wanted to say that based on a thread I read on here probably a few months ago, I swapped my shower gel for soap (I think the original thread was about deodorant, as OP felt a bit whiffy not long after showering, but lots of people recommended switching shower gel for soap instead).
Anyway, the difference is remarkable! I went to a stupidly hot soft play with DS at the weekend, where I had to follow him round the bloody playframe for an hour, (which is a whole other thread!), and still felt pretty fresh that evening, which I never would have been before. Same for the mornings, I usually wake up feeling a bit stinky because I seem to get very hot overnight, but no more! I'm just using Simple soap bars, two for £1. Amazing!

After reading this thread yesterday, I’ve just bought some Yardley lavender soap and a plastic dish with suction caps to attach to the shower cubicle!! It will be the first time in about 25 years that I’ve used soap!
DH just made a lame joke that I’ve smelt for 25 years...

Auldspinster · 14/10/2017 17:23

Peppermint Dr Bronners is lovely but not advisable for cleaning the delicate bits, a bit too invigorating!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 14/10/2017 18:25

I had a trawl of cheap shops today, sadly nothing special, imperial leather that is so soft it's like that modelling soap from lush. Into the airing cupboard. Knights Castile' four for a quid. I got a suction soap dish which refuses to stick. I may have 4 packs of Waitrose soap curing, so olive and jojoba.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2017 19:00

I never season soap and have no problems with soggy soap.

ChocolatePHD · 14/10/2017 19:36

Thanks to this thread I ditched my shower gel and used dh's simple soap in the shower this morning, it's so weird but I was less sweaty today and my skin is softer as well so win win! And then I popped in to Homesense and had a lovely time sniffing all the bars of soap in there and chose a lovely lavender one from Provence. I've been enjoying using it to wash my hands (and my excema probe hand skin is much softer and smells lovely, plus ds loves using it too!
Just trying to stop myself from splurging on a million bars of soap now.

I am soooo easily led! Blush. 2 Nesti Dante soaps (Paradiso Tropicale St Barthes Coconut & Frangipane, and Il Frutteto Citron & Bergamot) are now winging their way to me via our favourite online store, along with a travel soap dish and 2 bamboo soap trays!

troodiedoo · 14/10/2017 22:28

It's like zoflora all over again Confused

chocolatespiders · 14/10/2017 22:51

Utah that soap sounds amazing. Does it smell strong? The paradiso one.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/10/2017 23:33

I found a bar of L'Occitane Orange&Cinnamon in my scarf drawer so using that.
The number of times I drop the bloody soap in the process though Hmm

snozzlemaid · 15/10/2017 00:13

Ha ha. That’s the only downside. Chasing the bar around the shower when I drop it.

MrsHathaway · 15/10/2017 01:14

I don't actively season mine, but apparently "get loads all at once and leave it in a drawer until the last bar runs out" is a very similar method. Stash in knicker drawer - if it's in plastic wrap, remove.

Shantotto · 15/10/2017 08:35

Any brands to keep an eye out for in tk maxx? I've got a dr bronners rose soap but it's just not enough. Need more soap!

I also want to make sure I'm getting proper soap - no SLS or weird stuff added, like naturally made the 'proper' way. You know what I mean!

Any suggestions?

UtahGirl12 · 15/10/2017 09:16

chocolatespiders I will let you know on Monday when it arrives! Frangipani is one of my favourite smells. I love the Elemis oil in that fragrance. Takes me back to outside massages in Bali.....Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/10/2017 11:33

MrsHathaway that's my method too.

Already have two massive bars of L'Occitane Verbena, which lasts me ages, and several Fenjal also. Have just done Ocado order and, on the strength of this thread, have ordered Dr Bronner almond, rose and a Waitrose glycerine (for face).

The Dr Bronners will join spare verbena one in undies drawer.

katplva · 15/10/2017 12:29

chocolate spiders I have the Nesti Dante frangipani one and it is lovely. It smells like holidays - sweetly floral but not cloyingly so. I also have an Avoca fig and grape.one which is also very nice. Being a bit of a sheep on this thread and using soap much more often now Smile

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/10/2017 12:33

I've just had an imperial leather shower and feel squeaky clean.Smile

ElspethFlashman · 15/10/2017 14:12

Well I couldn't resist some Cussons Pearl in the supermarket earlier. As MN fads go, I'm glad this is a remarkably cheap one! Grin

Course now that I appear to have 6 unopened bars of cheap soap, how does one leave them in a drawer without them ruining the clothes? Mine are pretty deep so they'd be proper buried in there. Wrap them in tissue?

MotherofPearl · 15/10/2017 14:59

Bore, you won't regret the Dr Bronner soaps.
My first Nesti Dante - the lavender one - finally arrived yesterday. It smells divine and is nestling in my underwear drawer until I've finished the rose Le Petit Olivier I'm busy with.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/10/2017 15:23

I have 4 on the go at the end of the bath- Imperial leather, cussons pearl, Waitrose pearl and Waitrose sensitive Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/10/2017 15:27

That's what I think I'm going to have do Dame

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/10/2017 15:29

Am fighting the urge to order some Nesti Dante though. I do not need more soap, but I do so covet it.

I want ALL the soaps!

MrsHathaway · 15/10/2017 15:38

Perfect.

MrsHathaway · 15/10/2017 15:38

Assuming you mean tissue paper rather than Kleenex.

ElspethFlashman · 15/10/2017 15:52

Er.....no, I meant Kleenex, lol. Dead classy, me. Grin

I don't think I have any proper tissue paper. Hmmm......

MrsHathaway · 15/10/2017 16:08

I think it might stick. Normal paper? Old envelope?
