Mrs W - those sort of parties cause me endless anxiety as I don't have a posh frock and feel generally silly in dresses.

Love love the red pixie boots - pleased they are back in fashion. If it keeps raining though - love rubber biker boots below although cannot justify the price.

I have a press trip this weekend which seems to be mainly eating and drinking but need 'smart casual' for eating out..!?

motherinferior · 11/09/2017 15:28

And when I say autumn shoes I just mean Warmer Shoes. I appear to have one pair of fab pewter DMs but not much else - how??

Rosenspants · 11/09/2017 17:32

I have loved these for Autumn and Winter I wore them and wore them. I am horrified that Clarks Originals don't seem to be doing them any more as I'd like to replace them as they're getting a bit shabby. Thinking I may need to scour Amazon and EBay... Hmm

MrsW Do you have a link to the dress? I love a good party frock/black tie outfit and need a whole wardrobe of them at times as Crepeys will know.

hattymattie · 11/09/2017 18:20

I quite fancy some DM's.

These ones to be precise - better start saving up.

IDismyname · 12/09/2017 07:40

Rosen I've got 2 pairs of those. One in black and one in taupe. Can't say I've had as much wear out of them as I thought.

It's not often I buy shoes or boots in 2 colours, but they weren't as comfortable as a previous pair I'd had from a different shop - which were wedges, but with seriously Crepey 😁 soles.

What size are you? I'll see if I can dig them out. They'll be a 6 or a 6.5.

Hi Rose, unfortunately my dress is a few years old now and despite having spent my entire commute googling I've not been able to find it. The link above is something very similar though.

Rosenspants · 12/09/2017 17:21

That's a very lovely offer, Fluffy. Sadly I am a 7 or even a 7 and a half these days! I've seen a new black pair on Ebay in my size and might be tempted to bid. To me, the gave height and looked good with jeans. I found them really comfy.

Great dress style MrsW. I really must get with it, dress -wise. I have three cocktail/black tie functions this Autumn and that's just what I remember....

addle · 12/09/2017 18:21

I had black pair too and loved them, Airborne and Rosen, but am so unused to any height of heel, fell over quite a lot ... Still loved them.

Quick pop in between away times.

Have just had an amazing few days in Yorkshire with nephews, nieces & SIL.

So lovely to see all those people who I have known from babes, who are now adults & all have lovely partners. Had the lovely news that there is going to be a wedding soon.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much wine was consumed!

Went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park which I hadn't heard of but just blew me away.

And on the nephew/niece line, one of them is very, very, bright & has worked for the same place (science/public service related) for the last ten years or so & is now looking to change jobs as she feels that if she doesn't she will end up in a total niche job. I suggested to her that she went to see a careers' consultant - do any of you know or could recommend such advice?

Home for a few days & then off to Turkey - going somewhere new so am most excited.

IDismyname · 13/09/2017 06:29

Oh, sorry I can't help, Rosen.

Maybe I should sell them on eBay if they've been discontinued!

Cremolafoam · 13/09/2017 08:51

MM, glad you had a splendid time in Yorkshire, in what sounds like a blissful family meetup. Turkey sounds like it will be terrific too.
I enclose a pic from our balcony this morning. Beautiful full sunshine for our final day in France. Heading back to Spain later today. Xx most useful items in overpacked bag has been blue sandals from M&S ( so comfortable) and a black linen dress from La Redoute.
Please remind me for next trip.

MM, that all sounds wonderful, what fun.

Crem, no balcony pic, but it all sounds good too.....

S and B advice (sort of) - I need tops or light jumpers to wear over T shirts with jeans (my standard uniform). I have one thin grey cotton Gap jumper that I have worn all summer, and plenty of proper winter jumpers, but nothing in between. I spend half my time taking things on and off and shoving in bag.

magimedi · 13/09/2017 09:45

You & I are in the same squad, MsM! I also wear jeans & tshirts all the time.

I quite often look in the mens section in Debenhams, House of Fraser etc & have found very nice cotton jumpers there.

www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_092010780245_-1 For example!

motherinferior · 13/09/2017 10:00

I am trying to work out 'smart casual' for the Channel Islands this weekend. I am 54, ffs, I have plenty of slightly ramshackle garments, why is this perplexing me so???

MsMartini · 13/09/2017 10:42

Thanks Magi!

MI, I never know what smart casual means for women. For men it seems to mean trousers that are not suits or jeans (eg chinos).

motherinferior · 13/09/2017 12:06

A Nice Cardie, then 😀

Cremolafoam · 13/09/2017 14:38

I think it means,
Smart trousers( possibly with a crease) with a flattering top plus a bit of jewellery. Heels or wedges.
Or
A well cut to suit figure dress ( any length) with an informal jacket or naice cardi/shrug over the top. Smart sandals or knee boots.

I think so anyway. I am confused as am still doing summer and can't imagine 'home clothes'Hmm

MsM - linen jumpers? here

motherinferior · 13/09/2017 15:05

Smart sandals? Heels? Wedges? You've met me, Cremo...

hattymattie · 13/09/2017 18:55

MM Uniqlo are good for reasonably priced medium weight jumpers. Brilliant idea on searching the men's counters though. I finally found knee length plain shorts in a men's shop. Cheaper than women's too.

Crem - glad you got some sunshine. It is truly miserable in Paris - damp and rainy.

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/09/2017 00:51

Frock, cardie and your Hotters, MI. Sorted.

Blackduck · 14/09/2017 06:10

Smart casual is a phrase that strikes fear into my heart.

Most of us at the Senior Management retreat obviously felt the same and stuck to normal work attire with the men removing their ties...

Cremolafoam · 14/09/2017 08:28

MI, you and me both. Grin

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 14/09/2017 08:41

I hate "smart casual". Not least because everyone has a different interpretation of it.
