Can we talk about Autumn and things we are lusting after?

I am on the hunt for a deep chestnut pair of pull on calf length boots.

Anyone seen anything decent?

Also what is up with Toast this year?

Just bought a pair of Dr Martens Teresa boots for £38 from Cloggs - they were an extra 20% off the sale price and they're gorgeous, exactly what I was after for A/W. I've wanted a pair of Docs for ages but I was worried about harking back to my 90s goth days - these are perfect though, and so comfortable.

DH has bought me this Scaramanga satchel for my birthday next week - my 8th Scaramanga bag! I love them and I can't wait to get this one Smile He's also getting me a new watch and MAC Chili lipstick, both of which I've been lusting after for aaaages.

I've lost loads of weight this year - I was a size 24 at Easter, I'm a 16 now - so hopefully by late autumn I'll be a 12/14 (my goal). If I am, I plan to splurge on a beautiful coat - something long and green and/or tweedy, preferably. Any suggestions welcome!

Way back in the thread I linked to a pair of Fat Face boots that I had a thing for. I went and had a look at the suede ones in store but found they were a nasty yellow tan rather than a rich mustard although I liked the style. Now however they have bought these out in an oily leather and I am tempted.
Has anyone had Fat Face boots?

What are people thinking about brogues nowadays? I've never had any but I'm thinking now they could work. Have I missed the boat? Also they might just be wrong on my big feet which is why I've never actually bought any before...,

LilaoftheGreenwood · 23/08/2017 22:39

I long for brogues to suit me but they don't, I'm too tall and cankly, it just looks like I'm wearing men's shoes Sad I was mooning over the La Redoute brogues page earlier though.

Squashit · 23/08/2017 22:44

I admire them on others but they look rubbish on me. I think they are classic though.

I love brogues but I think my feet are too big for them. My friend with small feet (she must be size 3 or 4) looks great in them Envy

Laquila · 23/08/2017 23:39

Squashit I had some marvellous FF boots a few years ago - sort of slightly ruched low ankle boots in a brown suede/nubuck. They were v comfy and surprisingly durable.

Deianira · 24/08/2017 00:16

I love my brogues - I think they do look like men's shoes but surely that's the point? I mostly wear them with dresses which balances it out a bit - and they're brilliant for when it's raining etc.

Floisme · 24/08/2017 06:58

I'm still wearing them but then I always have. In fact I'm slightly pissed off that they're having such a big moment because it means they will inevitably fall out of fashion at some point. I liked it better when they were just under the radar.

taybert · 24/08/2017 07:19

Hmm. I'm a size 6 feet but only 5'2 tall and I find sometimes flat shoes look like boats on me. I do like the idea of them with tights and dresses though or ankle length trousers before it gets too cold. I don't think I want black- maybe dark grey or ox blood or something.

Floisme · 24/08/2017 07:24

I do mostly wear them with trousers. I used to like them with short skirts but I haven't got the legs for that any more.

LilaoftheGreenwood · 24/08/2017 07:34

I'm putting it badly when I say they look like men's shoes on me - of course they do, it's just something about masculine/androgynous style doesn't sit right on me. I also look subtly wrong in crisp cotton shirts like someone who's playing dressing up, even though I love them and keep buying them!

harrietm87 · 24/08/2017 07:43

Hi can I join? LOVE autumn clothes - I'm so pale and freckly and look terrible in summer (exposed pasty skin/sticky sun cream issues) - so happy to move back to my opaque tights and cashmere! I'm 7 weeks pregnant today though so might have to be a more restrained shopper than usual!

However, have already purchased the m&s trench in khaki. Normally a 10 so tried on a 12 and it drowned me, so got it in an 8. I really like the colour and length!

taybert · 24/08/2017 08:03

I know what you mean Lila sometimes I see an outfit on someone else and it looks lovely, then I try it on and it's just wrong for no real reason. I have to be really careful with prints- they look great on some people but often when I try them on I look like I'm playing dress up with my mum's clothes- even though I'm a woman in my mid 30s and someone the same age/height etc would be fine in it. It's a mystery to me!

Floisme · 24/08/2017 08:12

I really like that M&S trench coat harriet - love the length and the colour. Do you know how it stands up to rain yet?

harrietm87 · 24/08/2017 08:29

flo I haven't actually worn it yet - weather hasn't felt autumny enough! It says it's storm proof but tbh I'm not expecting it to do brilliantly- will just have to make sure I carry an umbrella! I'll update on here after its first wear.

Floisme · 24/08/2017 08:32

Yeah I'm jumping the gun a bit, weather-wise! Thanks.

taybert · 24/08/2017 08:41

Send it up here, I'll try it out for you, it's tipping it down AGAIN!

taybert · 24/08/2017 15:47

Oo, also, my annual hunt for some sort of slouchy lovely jumper to wear with coated jeans, leather skirt etc will restart soon.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2017 16:12

I tried the M&S trench on again and it was still a disaster on me. Dp there to confirm too. Am v jealous of those of you who it suits, as it's a beautiful coat. Has anybody seen any cotton not too £££ trench coats (cotton lined too) anywhere?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2017 17:28

Also, Susie has just featured it on her blog, so there will probably be a lot of people wearing it!

harrietm87 · 24/08/2017 21:44

Yes remus it is v like the Alexa Chung one, though I actually bought that and returned it as didn't like the fit - prefer this one!

Has anyone seen Arket yet (new shop from H&M)? I signed up for the preview but have to say nothing is really grabbing me - prefer cos.

taybert · 25/08/2017 08:40

There's some pure collection cashmere on Brand Alley at the moment, I've picked up a couple of jumpers.

littleredpear · 25/08/2017 15:43

I'd like a new grey cardigan coatigan thing

I've found these 2 but I also love the all saints one posted up thread

https://m.johnlewis.com/mint-velvet-star-sleeve-cardigan-light-grey/p/3255241?size=122_

Is the mint velvet one too busy?

Floisme · 25/08/2017 16:07

It would be too busy for me redpear but that's just my taste. I really like the plainer one you've linked.

I found a fabulous long, Columbo-esque trenchcoat in a charity shop today. Dannimac. Great quality, detachable warm lining, even the right shade of beige. But at least two sizes too big and probably too much paraphernalia for alterations to be an option Sad
