I am on the hunt for a deep chestnut pair of pull on calf length boots.

Anyone seen anything decent?

Also what is up with Toast this year?

That's annoying.

Tentomidnight · 22/08/2017 10:19

Does anyone have this jersey dress? Is it cool or frumpy on?

Desperate plea: has anyone seen any nice, slim cut, machine-washable, mediumweight, ankle-length, flat-fronted work trousers, ideally with pockets and a bit of stretch?! (Moon on a stick, I know...)

Navy and/or black would be wonderful.

Oly5 · 22/08/2017 12:02

Have you tried Boden Laquila, I find their stretch work trousers amazing

Lottapianos · 22/08/2017 12:37

Flo, just curious - roughly how many coats are we counting as enough to last the rest of your life?!

Floisme · 22/08/2017 14:49

Ok but if this now descends into a Bag Thread, blame Lotta Grin
Off the top of my head:
5 x wool coats
1 x leather coat
2 x maxi coats (not currently in service but ready for duty)
2 x velvet 'opera coats'
1 x lovely but impractical wool crepe coat, bought for a wedding
1 x so- called trenchcoat - very nice but bleeding useless even in light rain
1 sensible bad-weather coat with hood - unloved but the most useful one of all.
Is that 13? Blush
In my defence, I think 6 were bought new and the rest are vintage, dating from 1940s-70s.

Please don't ask about jackets - now that really would be embarrassing!

Lottapianos · 22/08/2017 15:08

Oh I see, jackets are separate Grin Sounds fabulous. My sensible hooded coats are the ones I live in during the winter too.

Floisme · 22/08/2017 15:43

Oh and my cape Grin so um...14.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 22/08/2017 16:23

I have 15 wool coats. I counted them as I brought them down from storage today Blush

I keeping looking at velvet shoes and boots. Wine coloured ones. They're completely impractical right? I mean, I wouldn't be hoofing around in pouring rain with them on, but I feel like they'd scuff and mark just by looking at them.

They're so nice though. I bloody love velvet. Glad it seems to be back this season.

Laquila · 22/08/2017 19:23

Oly5 I tried the Hamptona skinny trousers but they were a bit too leggings-like on me.

I've actually just found some lovely ones in Autograph - the "Tailored Slim", £45. They're quite nice and heavy, with a bit of stretch - hopefully they'll wash and wear well.

taybert · 22/08/2017 20:09

I like that Fox has only told us about the wool coats. What about coats of other materials?! I was feeling a little guilty and excessive when I was thinking about buying another coat since I have two wool ones which are lovely but don't even pretend to be waterproof which is probably what I really need. Also, neither have a hood which I feel in principle should work for me due to my hatred of umbrellas but actually I always end up putting them down because they irritate me. Maybe that's why God gave me straight hair...

I'm feeling uninspired when browsing clothes websites so far. I'd like a few autumn dresses for wearing with boots- maybe a shirt dress type thing. Also maybe some slim fitting trousers to try to take me away from skinnies but not in to soggy ankle territory. I've also made the mistake of buying nice quality boots for the last couple of years so all mine are looking quite decent and I don't have an excuse to buy more. Unless of course something I really need comes along.....

EnidButton · 22/08/2017 20:18

Can never have too many coats and boots tay

taybert · 22/08/2017 20:28

To be fair, I did end up wearing my heeled ankle boots to work quite a lot last year. That was never their intended purpose. They've got work on them now. I will need some more for non work.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/08/2017 20:35

Boots are my favourite thing. I have lots of pairs but 'need' some black Chelsea boots and some tan heeled ankle boots.

Squashit · 22/08/2017 21:10

I have a boots weird too. Particularly for Fly London and Hudson.

They are gorgeous Squashit

taybert · 22/08/2017 21:17

I ordered about 10 separate pairs of Hudson boots one year thinking they were all definitely the ones I needed. They look so nice on other people but I couldn't find a single style that both fitted and looked good on me. Hmm. I do like them though. I touch them when I see them in shops.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/08/2017 21:19

I've got a pair of Hudsons and really like them, but they are terrible for walking at length in.

Squashit · 22/08/2017 21:23

These ones are comfy but like the Encke ones I find going up a size is required.

Can't decide if these are a bit wrong or not but I am strangely drawn....

They're not my cup of tea. I think it's the shiny material combined with the sole. They look a bit Wellington like. Nice colour.
