Yes, Crem. A GP who is actually interested in, you know, patients...

FlipflopsOrWellieboots · 04/08/2017 21:16

I really hope you get a proactive GP, Crem..... isn't that what we all want sometimes. I know they are overworked and pushed for time, but they must be pretty disappointed that they can't spend time and energy working out what's going on.

That's good news about LEL, Fluffy. I went to Charleston last year with my ddad and great aunt to a 'literary festival'. I was very young, but I loved the garden (we didn't get to go in the house). Are they NADFAS old ladeez?

Here, the jet lag is finally receeding, although mornings are incredibly groggy. I have done very little today, but finally my car is fixed, my ipad screen is fixed and I'm still waiting for two phones back from the menders......Just seems to have been a time when everything has got broken and when it all comes good, life feels a bit better.

I'm doing research to 'get back to work'......jotting down potential targets who will want to pay handsomely for my amazing brilliance Grin

MsMartini · 04/08/2017 21:35

That sort of dismissiveness is inexcusable from a clinician and I doubt saves time and money in the long run. You need someone who listens to you, Crem, and will go out to bat for you.

Yay, Airborne I quite agree. I was on a trip last week and ended up having tea with a tough old thing. She looked at me as if I was insane when I asked her if she was going to have cake, chose the largest going and wolfed it down while telling me about all the pompous men she had shown up in her time 😀

IDismyname · 04/08/2017 23:40

No, not NADFAS! Just a group of laideeees who come together and are creative. Mainly sewing, but we all got a lot out of today.

I mean, an eclectic house, a walled cottage garden and a tea shop with the largest slabs of cake I've seen in a long time.

What's there not to like??

Roll on the 60s!

Cremolafoam · 05/08/2017 10:49

Am pushing for a different gp in same practice. I have seen an endocrinologist , as I do regularly, at diabetic clinic. Also not standard practice here to refer with thyroid issues. ( always managed by disinterested gps) I can't work it out. I think she is trying to attribute my moods and tiredness to diabetes and lack of control or lack thereof. Which is bull. I am managing well.
I think I am 'known' at the surgery. It makes me raging. I have already moved practice in the last few years as I felt passed over. I sound like I am difficult, but actually I just have a lot going on and I want to be involved in my own care. The gps seem deflated and overworked. A 10minute appointment is no good to me, especially when I can only talk about 1 issue.
May pay to go private again. But it won't make any sodding difference if my blood work is 'within correct parameters '

Right, trying to stop wingeing.
Airbourne your wee trip out sounds tremendous.
Flioflops, very satisfying, getting things fixed.i get a great deal of pleasure when things start working again. Are still feeling after effects of jet lag.
It is our wedding anniversary today so we are dining out. Looking forward to that.and the sun has made a momentary appearance. Gay Pride 🏳️‍🌈 here today too, so am going to show my inner rainbow.

bigTillyMint · 05/08/2017 15:44

Oh Cremo, go you making the most of your day.what a shame your GPs are shite. When does your job finish? I feel you need an extended break to work out exactly what your health issues are xxx

NoCureForLove · 06/08/2017 08:30

Last day in Lisbon here. Boo. It's been really great and as family holidays go unstressed! There's always the journey home of course...

Rosenspants · 06/08/2017 11:31

Crem people round our way are more and more seeing private GPS even for a once off. DS1 did this recently when he felt he wasn't being taken seriously at the usual place. It was well worth the money...lots of time to discuss, and good result. It's sad it's going this way. I was really happy with ours but they failed something on the CQC inspection....related to the building, not the care and now they are amalgamating us with a vast group practice further away. Not happy and said we'd see how it goes but I might avail myself of occasional private GP consultations if I can't get the service I want. That said, I mostly stay away. I have had my fill of medical stuff for a lifetime.

Love so glad it's been a successful trip. When are you off to the other place?

In Landsend swim suit news, it's a lovely thing. It's what I put in it that is not lovely, but I am keeping it. I can't remember when I so wanted to start covering myself up.

IDismyname · 06/08/2017 11:36

DH had a private GP consultation a few months back - mainly because he just wasn't around in the week to see his actual GP. It was quite expensive, but he said that there was no hurry, and he had plenty of time and was listened to...
Maybe worth a punt Crem?

Cremolafoam · 06/08/2017 14:19

I have been considering a private appt for some time actually ( great minds) and actually have a years private health insurance with dh's company. Seems a no brainier. No one is interested in a holistic view of my whole situation. I get différent advice based on the different ailments, some of which is contradictory . I suspect here is no definitive answer. I always feel like I am being reprimanded by docs.
Various advice I have had includes
Leave your job (!)
Eat less carbs
Eat a diet with plenty of carbs
Eat more iron based foods
Don't exercise, and get plenty of rest
When you are sleepy, get up and do star jumps to waken yourself up
Have you tried the couch to 5k?
You can't expect to feel any better after 40 years of diabetes.
Oh yes the life expectancy is quite low for Type 1
I won't operate on your carpal tunnel until your blood sugars are 'perfect'
We should really be getting you off those pain meds.....

One more go at gp . Then we will see.

Cremolafoam · 06/08/2017 14:25

Had the most lovely day yesterday poking around antique places with dh, and then a divine dinner out. I had griddled lamb with a kind of wild rice and black bean cumin and spicy sauce. Dh had sesame encrusted cod with sumac dusted sweet potato chips and chunky tartare relish. Amazing.
Town was full of rainbow flag becaped couples and a celebratory atmosphere. Good stuff.

IDismyname · 06/08/2017 17:14

Oh well, Crem - use the private healthcare insurance for all its worth - literally!

I am struggling with digestive ishoos - have done for 25 years. Tried most approaches, lots of contradictory info, and still none the wiser.

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/08/2017 18:56

Please use your private healthcare, Crem. A good doctor, with more time than the 2 minutes you get with a GP, will try and get to the bottom of all this. I took DD1 to see a private doctor to get her health certificate for school. As we were paying for the appointment, and it was for 20 minutes, we had a nice long chat about her asthma and how best to manage it.

Our local GP surgery has become unspeakably useless - can't get an appointment for 3-4 weeks, none of the doctors work more than two days a week, so if you want to see someone specific, you can wait even longer. I was prescribed some cream for a rash (that the doctor didn't even bother to look at) that hasn't existed for years. They have 16 consulting rooms there - the last time I went, three were in use - two by locum doctors (because none of the regular doctors work on a Monday) and one by a nurse who was working flat out.

magimedi · 06/08/2017 21:43

Crem, don't arse round with 'one more go' at the (useless) GP.

Pay out, go private & see someone who will have time for you.

None of us want to go down that line, we have all believed in the NHS, but it ain't working for you & your health comes before any principles.

Cremolafoam · 07/08/2017 10:37

Private appointment made. Copy of blood results requested from gp.
Can't go on like this.

On happier note I have a voucher for Boden and am pondering dregs of sale. Think I'm going to go for a lovely cashmere jumper which is well reduced already. Ridiculous weather is making me think of Autumn 🍂 nights.

bigTillyMint · 07/08/2017 11:13

Good move Cremo. Am hoping its a success.

Thought of cashmere is making me sweat by the pool Grin

NoCureForLove · 07/08/2017 11:30

Thought of cashmere makes me want to scream! But v sensible Crem as will be very Envy EnvyEnvy come November.
Good luck re medical stuff you poor thing.

magimedi · 07/08/2017 12:15

Very happy to read that you have made appointment.

Don't want to think about winter - I hate it.

MsMartini · 07/08/2017 23:19

Really hope it is helpful, Crem, your GP sounds awful....what colour cashmere?

Having very nice holiday so far despite slightly mixed weather. Falling into bed exhausted every night!

IDismyname · 08/08/2017 07:53

I got a couple of cashmere sweaters in the Lands End sale. Just plain v-neck ones.

Most of the sweaters I own have something dribbled down the front.

IDismyname · 08/08/2017 07:55

Oh and Go Crem!!

Good Girl for making appointment.

Cremolafoam · 08/08/2017 11:21

Oh it's just black cashmere , but will be the most useful. I am gradually replacing my horrid knitwear with cashmere or linen or fine lambswool. Got a great range at online Oxfam shop/ Uniqlo sale if you keep an eye out.
Have rescued an abandoned fox cub-no really. We could hear it yippy yapping nearby and looked over the hedge to see it on it own in a bit of a state. Rescue centre said they'll take it, but don't hold out much hope. I know you townies who hate 🦊 will be aghast.Hmm
Family coming on Thursday for a birthday tea. So am making a quiche. ( smacked salmon since you ask) The rest will be St. Michael or similar. Cba Shock
Have ordered a new Ehic card after dire warnings by dsis, whose various children had stitches , a jellyfish sting and tonsillitis on recent holiday. They had a great time btw.

IDismyname · 08/08/2017 14:33

smacked salmon Grin

It will forever be called thus.

Cos Shoes I mentioned last night - They are soooooooo comfortable. I know the juxtaposition of Hotter and Cos are tricky to imagine... but just try. And you'll get there. I plan to dye them come the autumn better start now, then.

In other S&B news, I popped into Clarks, and they have some lovely 'back to school' type grown up shoes... Loafers and nice trainer-y type shoes. They seem very reasonably priced.

Rosenspants · 08/08/2017 19:38

I agree with dyeing them Fluffy. White shoes always make me think of the Queen. I will not think if the autumn yet, although if truth be known I love autumn fashions more than any other. We've had mad rain storms here but it's still quite warm. Seem to have another day of rain ahead but an improving picture.

Crem well done on making the appointment and I really hope it's the start of better things health wise for you.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/08/2017 19:39

They look Hotter than Hotter, Airborne. The DDs inform me that I am too old for Granny Chic shoes and my feet look like The Queen's.

Smacked Salmon and Strangled Eggs, anyone? Grin

Have not done any shopping since my Monsoon haul. I do have a couple of Boden cropped cashmere cardigans which I feel are less matronly than the standard one. Also have a purple standard one to wear with jeans, but ensure that cleavage is on display, otherwise I feel and probably look like someone's nan. And frumpy country nan, not Brigitte Macron Essex Nan Stylee.
