Do you wear expensive makeup everyday?

... or is it for special occasions only?

DP thinks I'm ridiculous for wearing MAC foundation everyday Hmm and should only wear it for special occasions.

MAC is one of the few foundations that I've been able to find a shade pale enough in. NARS has one too but that's even more expensive. All drugstore brands are too dark/orange for me. So I don't have much of a choice (Caspar the ghost over here) other than wearing a more expensive foundation. He then pointed out most of my makeup is expensive and I need to eventually replace it as it runs out, costing more £££.

Do you use expensive makeup everyday or use drugstore for things like work etc and expensive for special occasions?

Can I also ask what you wear on a day to day basis?
I wear:
MAC foundation
Lancôme mascara
Lancôme eyeliner
Urban Decay eyeshadow
Collection eyebrow kit
Benefit bronzer
Revolution highlighter
NYX setting spray
Either MAC or NYX lipstick

To be fair, until recently, I've just used drugstore but have changed to higher end makeup recently. Maybe DP is right, maybe I do spend too much on it? I don't buy loads of different things of the same product, for context I only have one eyeshadow palette, three lipsticks, one eyeliner etc, I don't have a massive collection but the things I do have are more expensive. Maybe I should just wear the expensive stuff for occasions etc?

TIA Smile

My brushes are all Bobbi Brown or Laura Mercier - silly prices but worth it.

Longislandicetee · 31/05/2017 20:07

After many years of experimenting, I solidly stick with Nars (primer, foundation/tinted moisturiser, pencil) and Mac (eye shadows, blusher) but happy to use any old mascara as don't think it makes any difference and mix up my lipsticks (though I stick with tarte/Nars/Mac).

That's my full on make up which I wear 4 days a week. On weekends I tend to just use Nars tinted moisturiser and lipstick.

Dh has no idea and quite rightly doesn't care.

I use the same brands for every day and special, but it's a range of expensiveness.

Benefit eyebrow stuff
Touché éclat under eye stuff

soundsystem · 31/05/2017 20:09

Posted too soon...

Urban Decay eyeshadow
Maybelline mascara
Mac lipstick but I rarely wear lipstick

I don't wear foundation.

soundsystem · 31/05/2017 20:10

Although most of my make up is birtrday and Christmas gifts from my sister who is much more knowledgable and chic than me!

Ivory200 · 31/05/2017 20:17

Absolutely none of his business. All my life I've used Shiseido , Guerlain, Chanel, EL, Laura Mecier, By Terry etc etc , so I'm no stranger to the finer things. Out of curiosity I tried out Beauty Pie, and have been BLOWN AWAY by the quality of most of it. Go and have a rummage round their website and Instagram, you might find yourself interested. And no, I don't work for them, I just have an open mind about cosmetics and skin care.

No worries. We all have bad moods.

Sounds like we're actually quite similar. If nobody is going without its not really a problem, but if one person is spending lots more than the other in a partnership then it is an issue.

I had a few months where I was trying to get savings for us and DH was doing lots of daft purchases (in my opinion) for the long list of hobbies he seems to have these days. I never said anything because we'd not agreed to tighten our belts but there was a part of me thinking "do you REALLY need that". Made me a little grumpy inside.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 31/05/2017 20:44

I don't bother with expensive mascara, mascara is mascara and the drug store ones are just as good as the expensive ones, don't get me wrong if they are in offer or free on a magazine I'll get them but I do find Rimmel and Max Factor ones are pretty decent.

That's how I feel.
I'm always using freebies, or else I don't bother with mascara at all.
I feel too made up with it. I'm happy wearing the reddest of red lipsticks, but mascara feels like too much.

MaQueen · 31/05/2017 21:13

Always every day, because I am special every day [twirls]

I wear; Chanel foundation, Chanel concealer, Chanel lippy, Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner, Bobbi Brown eyeshadow, Bobbi Brown blusher, Max Factor mascara (this is the cheapest thing I use).

I wouldn't stand for DH telling me to buy cheap make-up.

Autumnchill · 31/05/2017 21:28

Never understand saving something for special and thankfully Husband is the same.

Every day: Clarins foundation, blusher and bronzer and tonight after attending a beauty night at House of Fraser, owner of a rather lovely 3 dot eye liner! Dior eye lash extender and mascara and that's about it for make up

PenguinOfDoom · 31/05/2017 21:39

Face Atelier foundation
Chanel powder
Chanel eyeshadow
Smashbox primer and blusher
Benefit mascara

I don't see the point of saving makeup for 'best'. And I'm not sure DH would even know what was 'best' and what was in my makeup collection, let alone be concerned about what I was spending on it. Especially as it's my own money.

I do mostly buy expensive brands, but I'm not wedded to them. Until I got the Chanel eyeshadow, I was using a £7 pallette from Boots.

Ohyesiam · 31/05/2017 22:08

That's a lot of interest in your make up, it would feel intrusive to me. I would be less. polite irl
Given the shelf life of make up, it's not a practical suggestion either.

I use Chanel foundation
Lancome primer
Benefit blusher
Benefit mascara
Can't remember highlighter.

squoosh · 31/05/2017 22:13

Today I have on

Burberry foundation
Nars concealer
Nars blush
Charlotte Tilbury lipstick
L'oreal mascara

BusterGonad · 01/06/2017 05:47

Thanks Maisy, I do indulge in make up and if my husband told me to stop for no good reason I'd be fuming and I'd tell him to ditch the gym, ditch pints out with his mates etc...
Anyway my everyday make up (not that I wear it everyday) is Clinique CC cream, No7 stay perfect primer (reduced to £3) Pupa concealer stick for under eyes (£15) Pupa eyeshadow quad (£15) Benefit roller lash mascara, free, Rimmel eyebrow pencil, I used to hate this but I've since found the dark brown shade and it's not red at all. Followed by Rimmel clear mascara on brows. Max factor cream puff blusher, I love it. And the creme de la creme is my Marc Jacobs lipsticks! I do have a fair few Chanel eyeshadows from a few years back when I got a bit obsessed by them but now I'm all over Pupa which for everyday use the eyeshadows are perfect as they are very soft and easy to blend in a rush!

SuperBeagle · 01/06/2017 05:57

I only wear makeup when I'm going out for longer than just walking the dogs/dropping kids somewhere etc. So no, I don't wear expensive makeup every day.

But when I do wear makeup, it tends to be the following:

  • Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation, or the Clinique Chubby in the Nude foundation stick
  • Chanel Inimitable mascara or one of the Bobbi Brown mascaras
  • Rimmel setting powder
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay eyebrow pencil
  • Stila black eyeliner (tight line) and Tarte nude eyeliner (waterline)
  • NARS Orgasm blush or one of the Hourglass blushes.
  • Whatever lip product I feel like on the day
BusterGonad · 01/06/2017 06:18

Super what's the Clinique cubby stick foundation like? I've heard various reviews and they've been a mix of good and bad.
