Thought I'd start a thread for anyone who finds capsule wardrobes in muted tones tedious as feck.

Ditto little diamond studs and designer bags with glossy bobs.

I personally admire the style of Alys Fowler and Helena Bonham-Carter.

Also love a bit of Gudrun/Lagenlook and other cheerful offerings.

A successful charity shop rummage is a joy to behold. I like messy hair, well -loved clothes and making my own stuff too.

Anyone else?

Yeah the early 80s were great. It all went a bit pear shaped when we started dressing like extras on Dynasty but the street fashion was amazing. I think one big difference was that a lot of the celebs of that time - Madonna for instance - copied what they saw people wearing on the street. These days it's the other way round.

Here's one of my quirky necklaces!

I've just found about something called lagenlook, and I think I like it!

Love this lady's style, I would definitely wear this outfit Smile

Oops posted twice, my phone's playing up and I didn't think previous pics had worked! Blush

hiccupgirl · 13/04/2017 07:51

I'm not into a particular style and more mainstream than lots on here but I love colour and patterns. I'm also quite casual and laid back - I really couldn't do an 'expensive look'. It's not me at all.

My neutrals are navy, black and dark grey (boring!), beige, light grey etc make me look terrible. But even if I'm having a navy or black day, there will be red shoes or a bright cardi etc to lift it.

My biggest issue is liking lots of different things - that's why I can't settle on one look.

Love this shoe too!

I had my colours done a few years ago and although I hated it at the time it was actually really useful. I used to wear black all the time but I'm so pale it doesn't really suit me. I'm an Autumn and I've got a wardrobe of lovely colours now. They also tell you what 'archetype you are', I'm a cross between ingenue and romantic which I envisaged as a medieval Elizabeth Taylor, which pretty much is my style really!

Floisme Tweed is indeed God's own fabric! Can't get enough of it. I am a textile geek, and it ticks so many boxes I can't tell you. Still looking for the perfect blazer though. Picked up a full length riding coat (v similar to this) for a quid in a chazzer last year!

Destinysdaughter · 13/04/2017 08:00

Tweed is a bit too Home Counties for me!

CountessYgritte · 13/04/2017 09:15

Bingo - thank you. Flowers
That is the kind of thing but I didn't see anything that grabbed me. I will keep looking.

CountessYgritte · 13/04/2017 09:16

Destiny - where are those shoes from?

Sample1936 · 13/04/2017 09:19

Thank you! I love this thread!

SheilaHammond · 13/04/2017 09:27

Destiny and countess I've got those shoes and they are always much admired.

They are a brand called Destiny. (Is that why you chose the name?)

Giggorata · 13/04/2017 09:33

Another non muted, non beige person here! Pastels make me look really ill...As I'm now in my 60s, I truly can wear purple with a red hat etc..... one of my role models is Iris Apfel.

When I'm not in skinnies and long tops, for slobbing about, I like some Blue Fish, Zarabesque, Sunheart & Hampstead Bazaar clothes, plus charity shop finds. I dye them to match my palette, which is black, plum, petrol blue, olive greens, charcoal, teal, indigo..
I used to describe my style as rich hippy. Now it's more lagenlook and fewer patterns, apart from some mad tie dye in high summer.
I have a vast hoard closet and rarely chuck the good fabrics stuff out, just remodel and re dye.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 13/04/2017 09:33

Love that necklace, Destiny.

When I had my colours done, I was given Romantic-Classic as my style. Seems fairly accurate for me.

amistillsexy · 13/04/2017 09:46

I've found my tribe! I've been wandering round looking like I just came off the hippy trail since I grew out of my Dexy's dungarees (but eyeing them up again now they're back in the shops..😅) . Will be clicking on these links when I get the chance.

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 13/04/2017 09:48

Yep, beige and taupe arent my neutrals either. I have dark olive, Indian skin and black hair. Too much beige and everything starts blending. Mine are very similar to a pp, (floisme I think?) - navy, purple, burgundy, teal, dark green, dark grey.

I love looking at cosplayers and characters in game franchises for inspiration.

The red shoes are Hush Puppies, the others I've had for years, I'm a bit of a shoe collector!

MarklahMarklah · 13/04/2017 11:48

I've a board on pinterest with the sort of clothes I like. I wouldn't necessarily wear all of them, but most of them!

There was a school Mum who wears what I realise is an EMP coat..its a lovelt red flare with black fur..its super to look at but she is very tiny.

I'm about to wear these shoes for the first time (though not t the gig we're going to to as I don't want them to get sticky). The cover my love of sparkly and cats.

Not too sure whether they would look to 'mad cat lady' with my very subtle cat blouse

hurrah! Fun clothes people! found you all!

I agree, those muted greys, blacks and sludge greens don't work well with everyone, especially black skin tones. I need and love colour. give me a brightly coloured top and funky shoes any day, and i'm as happy as larry.

I go for the mad scientist look, with an edge!

For work, I love wearing a cardi (long/short), a -line knee length twirly skirts, and my DMs or fly any boots. Victorian styled coat and maybe funky tights- yes that's my true calling.

TeaAddict235 · 13/04/2017 15:26

My fun good weather shoes!
