Thought I'd start a thread for anyone who finds capsule wardrobes in muted tones tedious as feck.

Ditto little diamond studs and designer bags with glossy bobs.

I personally admire the style of Alys Fowler and Helena Bonham-Carter.

Also love a bit of Gudrun/Lagenlook and other cheerful offerings.

A successful charity shop rummage is a joy to behold. I like messy hair, well -loved clothes and making my own stuff too.

Anyone else?

Ooh, that's lovely.

countrygirl55 · 12/04/2017 10:16

I love mixing prints, a charity shop rummage and messy hair (no choice with what nature blessed me with). HBP's family used to own our house so I am happy to channel her fashion vibes! I really love mixing vintage with modern and have a really "expensive" wardrobe as a result of seeking out good quality things from chazzers and vintage sales. Do love my Fatface dungers though!

Looks I like ...

Thought this thread would be for me but I'm not quirky, charity shop, tweed type. Just can't stand muted tones, studs etc. Hardly have any black in my wardrobe, no beige at all. Definitely not a capsule wardrobe!

NevermetaGilesIlike · 12/04/2017 10:23

You don't have to be- all sorts of quirky welcome 😀

I also like making this sort of thing to liven up something plain...

I also like tunics too 😁

Me me me!!

My wardrobe consists of leopard print, metallics, patent, loud prints, neon, massive jewellery etc etc

My current favourite outfit is a fuchsia pleated skirt, silver puffer jacket and silver boots. I love tacky-looking gold jewellery and clashing prints.

I do have a string of pearls which I adore but I wear them with an 80s style denim jacket and a old Smiths t-shirt and they look the business.

ephemeralfairy · 12/04/2017 10:39

I do have to be a bit careful in case I veer into Su Pollard territory (I wear glasses) but I usually think I look pretty good and get plenty of compliments.

ephemeralfairy · 12/04/2017 10:42

I just bought these shoes form ASOS...

Me! I do actually have a capsule wardrobe in muted colours, because muted colours suit me, but my style is less supermodel and more eccentric lesbian 1930s artist. So I wear pearls quite a lot. And tweed. And fair isle. And sensible shoes.

imthelastsplash · 12/04/2017 11:08

Oh my home! I nearly entirely clothe myself from charity shops/eBay and make stuff too (even though I'm spectacularly bad at it)

I lived in black when I was young and slim (because I thought I was fat) and now I AM fat I couldn't give too hoots.

Today I'm wearing green - green pinafore, green tights, shirt with green birds. I love the mori girl look (but being fat and the wrong side of 40 I tend for mori/librarian)

I love clothes and do have moments where I wish I could pull off elegant but I get told I'm stylish quite a lot.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 12/04/2017 11:14

signing in! i don't DO camel and beige, they make me look like a corpse. I wear a lot of black because it suits me. I love clashing prints and textures and funky accessories.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 12/04/2017 11:21

Love that coat! I really like a lot of stuff in EMP. I also like colour and don't mind pattern if it's the right sort for me. I don't suit big floral patterns but flowers in small scale work for me.
Black doesn't suit me very well and camel/beige looks horrible on me. I find a dark grey much more flattering.

I really love the colours in Gudrun Sjoden but the styles are just a bit too baggy to really suit me.

NevermetaGilesIlike · 12/04/2017 11:24

Is Mori a cross between goth/lagenlook? Never come across it before but have seen some stuff that looks most excellent.

Loving all these contributions. I love all sorts of individual styles and it is so nice to see.

Broomstick your look sounds very Toast Autumn of old. Very cool.

pearls! Who wears pearls??

Well I wear pearl stud earrings I shall have you know.although even I draw the line at a pearl necklaces My earrings go perfectly well with my chestnut brown swishy hair and my muted make up and classic clothes-though never beige and I'm not kidding, Grin

However I also love people who are quirky and different in their dress sense. It's simply not me.

Judydreamsofhorses · 12/04/2017 11:37

Love the sound of everyone's looks! I read those "expensive" threads with interest, but in reality would be shunned. My style is a bit "meeja", but at the same time I do always look "polished" in terms of hair, nails, makeup etc. I buy good "basics" like jeans, coats, shoes, but am not fussed about looking classic. I'm currently in pyjamas, but yesterday I wore black slim dungarees, with a pussybow blouse, and flatform brogues, which is a pretty standard outfit for me at this time of year. I love leopard print and always wear red lipstick. I'd rather see someone looking interesting than classic, but think both can be stylish and elegant.

SwedishEdith · 12/04/2017 11:37

I like both looks, depends what mood I'm in. And I have unruly or can't be bothered to get it cut regularly hair.

Shoes/boots have to be clumpy - really dislike "pretty" sandals and don't wear stilettos at all.

imthelastsplash · 12/04/2017 11:41

Yes clumpy shoes all the way!

Mori I think (because I can't be arsed to google) means forest. Yea I guess it is a bit steampunk/lagenlook but with more natural fabrics

I don't want to look expensive thread. I like colour, prints and comfortable quirky stuff.

www.gabrielleparker.com/c1wool-dress-skirt.php

This is my skirt. You don't have to have it ruched - I personally don't, I like the full length swishiness. I can't quite make it work for me as a dress either! But I love it as a skirt Smile

Airmid · 12/04/2017 11:51

I love clothes that express the personality of the wearer. And I dislike being told what to do so am not going to listen to all those magazines/fashion bloggers etc who tell me that I should be updating my wardrobe to include the latest whatever.

BroomstickOfLove · 12/04/2017 11:52

That skirt Is gorgeous. I have an old Victorian lace petticoat that I used to wear under long skirts and dresses with big clumpy boots, back in my slimmer days. I loved that petticoat so much.

SwedishEdith · 12/04/2017 11:54

That skirt is lovely - and it's a great price for wool.

wickedfairy · 12/04/2017 11:55

Love threads like these - I am a boring dresser, but live looking at everyone else's way of dressing!

bookworm14 · 12/04/2017 11:56

This thread may be for me! I'm not the full Helena Bonham-Carter, but I love florals, bright colours, big earrings and necklaces (sadly can't wear my long fake pearls anymore due to grabby toddler DD).

I have no interest in looking expensive or 'done'!
