I want to buy this. Tell me why I shouldn't.

I really like this top and I'm tempted to buy it, but it's stupid to spend this much on a basic top like this. I don't often see tops that are cut like this. I really want it. I never splurge. I'm very frugal with how I spend. Tell me I shouldn't buy it... or tell me I should.

Sorry but is that a vest top for £170?! Bugger me!

elephantcuddles · 10/04/2017 16:28

Yup! I know. It's ridiculous.

It's designer. I don't really care about that. But I like the detail in it. I just like the look of it.

Hi OP it's lovely. I've seen a few like that for less though if the cost is the stumbling block (for that price I would assume silk or some silk content).

There's this www.reiss.com/p/v-neck-tank-top-womens-ona-in-black/?category_id=1122

But it has wider straps.

Also some cheaper on ASOS.

The one you've seen is a lovely shape though.

MumBod · 10/04/2017 16:30

Erm...don't take this the wrong way, but are you currently suffering from PMT?

I tend to waste spend a lot of money on shite during Witch Week.

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/04/2017 16:30

I have that exact same one BNWT send me £150 and you can have itGrin

elephantcuddles · 10/04/2017 16:32

Thank you, FlyingGeese. I'm going to look at those. I really don't want to spend that much on a top. Yes, I think it must be a more expensive fabric... or at least it should be at that price.

MumBod, hahah! It might be around the corner.

IHaveBrilloHair, it's exactly like that? Where did you get it? :P

Destinysdaughter · 10/04/2017 16:33

It's nice enough but really not worth that amount of money!!

elephantcuddles · 10/04/2017 16:33

It says it's 97% viscose, 2% cotton, 1% polyamide
Hmm

OP posts:
Flyinggeese · 10/04/2017 16:35

I don't mind admitting I like viscose though. It hangs beautifully, but I can't see where the cost is coming from in the top, as it is very simple.

You've got me looking at v front and back vests now which would not suit me at all unfortunately but what a gorgeous style...

elephantcuddles · 10/04/2017 16:36

I can't see where it the cost comes from either. :/

I do love the style of a double v or a double scoop. It looks so pretty and feminine.

All for treating yourself but I wouldn't ever buy it.
I thought my jigsaw vests were overpriced but liked so got off ebay.

Nancy91 · 10/04/2017 16:39

I have to say I wouldn't think it cost more than £5 if I saw someone wearing it 😳

If I was going to spend that much on a top I would want it to be more eye catching than a plain vest top, but if you like it then you should treat yourself.

Flyinggeese · 10/04/2017 16:45

It might be one of those where it doesn't look much until you put it on then wow you see what you're paying for. Like with All Saints things IMO. Still, SO expensive.

Error404usernamenotfound · 10/04/2017 16:46

I'm all for people treating themselves now and then if they can afford it, especially if they're normally quite frugal, but this is just a plain black vest top, in bog-standard viscose blend, and I see no sense in spending that much money when you could get something virtually identical for far less.

If it were a statement piece, like an amazing dress that you couldn't get anywhere near on the high street, or conversely a perfectly fitting staple like tailored trousers or a coat that would last years, then i would say go for it. But this is just spending money for the sake of it.

elephantcuddles · 10/04/2017 16:49

I don't see it as a statement piece, but I see it as a classic piece that would last a long time. Years. But if I don't like it, Nordie's has a great return policy. I'm still torn. I know it doesn't look like much, but I honestly haven't found anything else that is that similar to it.

OP posts:
Stormwhale · 10/04/2017 16:52

It looks so cheap op. Why on earth would you spend that money on such a simple top? Go to a few high street stores and try on their black v neck cami tops and you will find one that you like as much!

Floisme · 10/04/2017 16:52

Whatever it is you're seeing, I'm not seeing it.

Is it one of those deceptively simple tops that turns out to have magical body transforming powers?

elephantcuddles · 10/04/2017 16:53

I know. Maybe I'm just weird! I think it looks elegant and feminine and classy. I get my mind set on something and I get fixated.

OP posts:
burnishedsilver · 10/04/2017 16:55

Don't buy it. You would regret it.

Redtartanshoes · 10/04/2017 16:56

Oasis do similar

VintagePerfumista · 10/04/2017 16:57

It looks like any old cheapo viscose vest.

Book a blimmin' flight and have a weekend away in a Primark vest!

Seriously, nobody would look at it and think "wow, she's wearing a £200 vest"

millifiori · 10/04/2017 17:02

Get it. You don't splurge often and it is a classic design you will get loads of wear out of. Other people would spend £££ on a more ostentatious top but just because this one is very low key doesn't mean it's a less wise splurge. I rarely splurge. But the few times I have, the clothes have lasted for ever and not dated. That top fits this category. It's a dateless classic so if you love it, get it.

You know you can get vest tops for £2 from Primark. This is about the cut. I think it's better value than a beautiful Karen Millen or LK Bennet party dress that gets worn once or twice then hangs in the wardrobe forever. You'll wear it loads.

rizlett · 10/04/2017 17:02

order it op and see if you feel the same sense of joy wearing it - you can send it back or keep it or ask us all again!

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/04/2017 17:06

If you're going to feel amazing every time you wear it then maybe it's worth it, I just can't see it over a plain vest though.

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/04/2017 17:07

Do you know any dressmakers?
Could they make you one?
