I want to buy this. Tell me why I shouldn't.

I really like this top and I'm tempted to buy it, but it's stupid to spend this much on a basic top like this. I don't often see tops that are cut like this. I really want it. I never splurge. I'm very frugal with how I spend. Tell me I shouldn't buy it... or tell me I should.

Millifiori, you think in a similar way to me. I wouldn't wear an eye catching dress that much because I wouldn't have enough occasions in my life to wear it to. I would get a lot of wear out of this top... I don't think it looks cheap like some people are saying. I'm not saying people are going to look at me and think it looks expensive though.. I don't really care about that. I just try to look nice and well put together.

Also, if it goes on sale, I have price protection on my card and can get back the difference up to 90 days from today...
I'm still on the fence though.

I'd feel aggrieved spending more than £10 on that.

Bluntness100 · 10/04/2017 17:14

I don't think it looks cheap and it's a nice cami as they go. I can spend stupid money if I really like something. But even I wouldn't pay 170 quid for that, I'd expect to pay about 50 quid max. Sorry op, unless you are very wealthy and money is no object, I wouldn't buy this.

bellabelly · 10/04/2017 17:14

That would look lovely with a "statement" necklace. Don't understand how the price is so high but if you LOVE it, and can afford it, buy it and see if you love it on. If you don't absolutely love it, then send it back.

Floisme · 10/04/2017 17:14

It's not that it's not eye catching. I'm all for spending more on basics that you'll wear again and again and buying your party clothes in Sainsburys. But I'd assumed the fabric would be some kind of knitted silk. Viscose can be so clingy although I suppose you won't know till you've tried it on.

iknowimcoming · 10/04/2017 17:16

£169? For that? Madness, I tell ya, madness!! I mean if it were silk or cashmere or something maybe, but it's viscose! No way Jose!

AllllGooone · 10/04/2017 17:18

I think you're literally just paying for the label here. But if you want to, good luck to you.

LettuceMash · 10/04/2017 17:19

It looks like one off the market, I love designer clothes but am struggling to see the value in that.

bigkidsdidit · 10/04/2017 17:20

That's completely different blunt Confused

I'd buy it op, but I'm a spendthrift

LosingDory · 10/04/2017 17:20

I wouldn't pay £170 for it...but it's not identical to the george one there's a massive difference in quality!

Pestilentialone · 10/04/2017 17:20

Beautiful fabric, reasonably expensive vests by rosemunde. You will be able to get three for your money

AnguaResurgam · 10/04/2017 17:20

Brandy Melville have very similar vest tops at a fraction of the price.

And DD is wearing something fairly similar in cream from New Look.

Though of course if you can afford £100+ for a vest, then just do it (spend your disposable cash on whatever you like). But there are so many so similar vest tops that it's not a garment I would want to splash on.

tissuesosoft · 10/04/2017 17:23

Very similar pnd

andshewillbeloved · 10/04/2017 17:26

Bluntness the only similarities there is that they're both black

I bought four tops with V front and back in silk and cotton from Woolovers for about £15 each. The straps were thicker though and they weren't ribbed. I love them, they are great for layering, wearing on own and for sleeping in.

The pricey top you linked looks nice but no way worth the price tag IMO, especially for viscose (I know some like it, but I don't).

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 10/04/2017 17:31

Is it made from spun unicorn hair?

Pestilentialone · 10/04/2017 17:35

I was going to suggest Jaeger, but they have just gone into administration. Shock

leccybill · 10/04/2017 17:55

Have they really?! Blimey.

Just bought the Asda one, thanks for the (sort of) heads up, op. Saved myself £164.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 10/04/2017 18:04

I always think basics like T shirts or vests are better bought cheaply and replaced more often. The ridiculously inflated price vest wont be an "investment" piece of clothing. It'll start to look old and faded after a summer of wearing and washing it. Bad investment IMO.

it's a No from me Smile

SouthernComforts · 10/04/2017 18:11

I sold my last car for less than they are selling that top Grin

I wouldn't pay more than 30 quid for a plain black vest top. For 170 I would be looking at a watch, shoes, handbag or a couple of sets of underwear.

MovingtoParadise · 10/04/2017 18:19

I think all the tops posted look nothing like the OP's. Confused

It's obviously a classy and very simple vest. I'd buy it and return it if it wasn't good in person. And if it didn't wash well.

I'd expect it to last years for that money.

I have loads of cheap vest tops, I'd trade them all for that one if it was the holy grail of gorgeousness.

Niminy · 10/04/2017 18:52

I think if vests are something the OP wears a lot then it's a good buy. It does let ok like lovely material, it's good a beautiful weight and drape and it's nicely shaped. If it well made and finished as well it will be a delight to wear. I think if you're going to splash out then basics are absolutely what you should splurge on. Spend on the things you wear constantly - not that lovely dress that's going to get worn once in a blue moon. Go for it, I say!
