I want to buy this. Tell me why I shouldn't.

I really like this top and I'm tempted to buy it, but it's stupid to spend this much on a basic top like this. I don't often see tops that are cut like this. I really want it. I never splurge. I'm very frugal with how I spend. Tell me I shouldn't buy it... or tell me I should.

It looks like a cheap vest you could get in primark .....

JohnCheese · 10/04/2017 22:51

Try it on and report back.
I don't think I see what you're seeing in it. Looks like a simple vest to me.
The viscose content puts me off. Looks great for the first 5 minutes of wear then creases like a bitch. And what a pain to wash. Shrinks +++. Every single time.

elephantcuddles · 10/04/2017 22:57

Will do. Honestly, I hope I hate it. That way I don't have spend that kind of money. :)

elephantcuddles · 10/04/2017 22:58

I don't think it looks cheap. Different strokes for different folks.

It will be interesting to hear what it looks like irl. Maybe it's fab, really heavy viscose. Tho I would still have to be persuaded on the viscose front.

Whiterabbitears · 11/04/2017 00:09

I'm not stylish at all so maybe its just me but don't most black vests/ camis look pretty much the same? For the life of me I can't see how that vest is worth that much. I also tend to see vests as undergarments which makes this even more baffling. OP I would rather spend that money on a really fab handbag instead.

SashaFiercesMum · 11/04/2017 00:18

He'll that's way too expensive for a mere vest top! I could buy my son a whole wardrobe for that price tag!

Floisme · 11/04/2017 07:07

Please let us know what you think when you've tried it, op - maybe it will give you the body of a goddess. Anyway I'm curious now!

AllllGooone · 11/04/2017 08:03

This is like the emporers new clothes.

AuntieStella · 11/04/2017 08:19

Shhhh - AllllGooone that's a phrase you're not allowed to use in S&B no matter how peculiar or how overpriced (or how plain hideous) the garment is. Because people aren't sheep and can make up their own minds.

ChocolateSherberts2017 · 11/04/2017 08:35

It's not an expensive fabric though, it's a synthetic mix of 97% viscose, 2% cotton, 1% polyamide. If it was 100% silk, then yes but not for a poly mix.

Goldfishjane · 11/04/2017 10:55

I don't think it looks cheap, I'm just surprised that you say you're normally frugal but you want this so much. You could be well off and frugal of course. I will be interested to know if you feel it's worth it. Doesn't viscose snag easily?

AllllGooone · 11/04/2017 14:30

auntiestella duly noted!

You're welcome.

Don't spend that much on a vest. Bloody hell, you could practically have a weekend away for that much!

Bythepowerof · 11/04/2017 17:03

I don't think the feel good factor would last with that top. You are just craving it the way some people crave ice cream or whatever.

I suggest finding a stupidly expensive vest top for £50 and splurging on it.
Then contact the local high school and say you have £100 to donate to buying a prom dress for someone who othewise couldn't afford one.
And the spend the other £19 on wine and nibbles with a friend to chat about your lovely new top and how good helping someone else out feels.

elephantcuddles · 11/04/2017 17:15

I donate a ton of money to charities I'm passionate about already. I rarely ever splurge on myself and I'm in the position to do so.

OP posts:
elephantcuddles · 11/04/2017 17:15

Anyway, I most likely won't be buying the top but will go try it on.

OP posts:
elephantcuddles · 11/04/2017 17:16

That next top is nothing like the one I posted. That's just a black cami. I already have 2 of those.

OP posts:
brickinitIam · 11/04/2017 17:19

It looks like an item of clothing that doesn't look much on the hanger but fits beautifully and looks great on.
I think you will get many year's of wear out of it.

Aeroflotgirl · 11/04/2017 18:54

Its lovely, but I saw a similar one in TKMaxx for £20

andpeggy29 · 11/04/2017 18:56

Cause it's fuckin hideous for that amount of money!

elephantcuddles · 11/04/2017 19:06

Nancy, that asos one is definitely the most similar one posted yet, but they don't have my size. :(

neveradullmoment99 · 11/04/2017 19:15

A ridiculous price. These are pricey but have the v-back and front.

Oh dear. We've had sneering, guilt tripping, cod psychology, unasked for holiday and charity recommendations and did I even see a mental health diagnosis somewhere? (Outrageous). All we need is a bench and we'll have a full house. I think the op has been very gracious - I'd have told some of you to 'do one' several pages ago.

As for the top, I can't see what the op sees in it either but it's clearly calling to her as clothes sometimes do. It will cost her nothing to 'scratch the itch' and try it on and I for one am really curious to hear what exactly you get for that kind of money.
