I want to buy this. Tell me why I shouldn't.

I really like this top and I'm tempted to buy it, but it's stupid to spend this much on a basic top like this. I don't often see tops that are cut like this. I really want it. I never splurge. I'm very frugal with how I spend. Tell me I shouldn't buy it... or tell me I should.

It's an imported 97% viscose vest. You're paying for the label not the lovely material. Confused It won't last any longer than a viscose vest from a high street store.

DoItTooJulia · 10/04/2017 19:06

You've gotta do what you've gotta do, but holy moly, £170? That's a lot of money for viscose.

Would it be worth searching eBay for one?

But buying it and trying it would be a good idea-it's so hard to tell from on line pics/descriptions.

KatyS36 · 10/04/2017 20:46

I love it. The drape and hang is stunning. I read about a rule for new clothes of 'would you wear it 35 times' ?

If you absolutely love it, and can afford it, go for it. Be scrupulous about returning it though if you don't love it.

BTW I love the skirt too!

I was about to suggest the most gorgeous silk organza cami ever I saw a while ago in response and went to look for a link, but it's no longer available. One of the Bond girls wore it in one of the Daniel Craig movies, and it is v similar to the Nordstrom top, but at £60-ish.

Turbinaria · 10/04/2017 21:13

Think of it as cost per wear do if you wear it 50 times a year it's approximately £3 per wear.

tellywelly · 10/04/2017 21:21

If think that £25 was more than enough for such a simple top... it's not like it's silk or cashmere.

How can they justify £169?!

Goldfishjane · 10/04/2017 21:27

Wow I knew Nordstrom was a rip off but....but....

You say you're normally frugal. Are you having a strange urge to spend?

It's viscose.....I am honestly baffled.

fruityb · 10/04/2017 21:29

What does it do? I'd expect it to make me tea and drive me to work for that!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/04/2017 21:38

Its beyond ghastly. Its nothing that you can't get from Primark for £6.
More fool you. If you're prepared to pay £170 to advertise a label for a company

RNBrie · 10/04/2017 21:47

Hush have one...

SailAwaySailAwaySailAway · 10/04/2017 22:04

Order it.
If you adore it when you try it on and it makes you feel wonderful, keep it. You can't put a price on that.
Viscose tends not to fade, shrink or stretch out of shape so you should be able to wear it for years.
None of the others linked is anywhere near it.
It hangs beautifully, especially if you have good posture and straight shoulders.
Also, one day, if you're lucky, you'll get old and have flabby upper arms and a wrinkly chest. You might decide you don't want to wear a strappy little number.

So on the basis that you can afford it and you're a long time dead, just order it and see.

Bluntness100 · 10/04/2017 22:06

I think if you tucked the Asda one in it looks just the same,,Grin

RebelRogue · 10/04/2017 22:08

4 quid at ASOS(it's on sale). Even if not exactly the same.... you can do a lot of experimenting and buy a lot of cami tops for 160£

I want to buy this. Tell me why I shouldn't.
gameofchance · 10/04/2017 22:08

FFS, I wouldn't have bought it when i had £££ - and certainly wouldn't now! Lots of cheaper alternatives out there

RebelRogue · 10/04/2017 22:10

Oh and it's 12% viscose so you still get some 😬

debbs77 · 10/04/2017 22:11

£8 in Matalan

Freshprincess · 10/04/2017 22:19

I like it, I'm looking for something similar. Way out of my price range though.

AllllGooone · 10/04/2017 22:19

The drape and hang is stunning Grin

Will people calm the fuck down, it's an over priced, somewhere between plain and ugly vest.

elephantcuddles · 10/04/2017 22:20

All the tops posted really don't look like the top I posted. They are along the same lines, but not a dupe or close to it.

I'm going to try it on in person this week and report back if you want me to. I bought a black double v top made of modal today but it's got short sleeves on it. I love the feel of modal. It was only $12.99 at TJ Maxx.

I love the idea of if you would wear it 35 times, it's worth it. :)
SailAway, I agree with everything you wrote!

HandbagCrab · 10/04/2017 22:24

It's nice but it's a viscose vest. Irl it will look like the many viscose vests you can buy for less, if you even can buy a viscose vest for more.

I've always been disappointed when I've splurged on something manmade, it never seems to last as long or wear as well as cheap manmade stuff.

228agreenend · 10/04/2017 22:28

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-tops-t-shirts?viewby=Styles&sort=PriceASC&viewtype=large&page=1

Boden gave a few similar ones.

The price is ridiculous. As pp have said, if it were for a classic coat, dress, shoes etc, fine, but a cami vest?!

fruityb · 10/04/2017 22:29

I wear a lot of my stuff a lot more than 35 times and wouldn't have paid anywhere near that for any of it!!

elephantcuddles · 10/04/2017 22:38

fruityb, hmm... that's true. I'm not a disposable type of shopper. I buy stuff and try to get as much use out of it as I can... or sell it on ebay if I don't like it. Or I'll donate it to a humane society shop.

I probably won't end up buying it, but I'm going to go try it on in person just to see. I found out a Nordie's store near me has it in stock.

elephantcuddles · 10/04/2017 22:45

Katy, I also think the drape and hang is stunning. And I love the skirt.

I'm pretty scrupulous about returning things. I feel like I return more stuff than I keep. Anyone else like that? I'm in the US and we are very spoiled here with return policies.
