Sorry if I have been insensitive. It wasn't my intention. Apologies OP.

Redglitter · 22/01/2017 01:28

Why is it people on here have such a thing about designer bags. It never fails. Someone comes on asking advice about which bag to buy and all the comments start

I'd go on holiday
I'd give it to charity Hmm
I'd put it towards x y zone

The OP like people before her isn't asking what people would do with £1300 she's asking what bag she should get. It's quite clear from the thread title.

OP treat yourself. Buy a gorgeous bag and enjoy it.

EnidButton · 22/01/2017 02:03

Been where you are and although you should get your bag can I very gently suggest you give it a couple of months in case it's a knee jerk purchase and you end up associating it with the shit news. I'm speaking from experience.

A Chloe Faye or drew, or a Bayswater double zip! I'm loving mulberry at the moment, no issues at all with quality.

mm81 · 22/01/2017 03:20

Longchamp le pliage
At appx £50 a bag, i could get 26 of them at different colours and rotate twice a year. .. happy days me Smile

^^firstly this

^^ but also this

A couple of colleagues have the Bayswater, the burgundy is gorgeous! - they were worried about the quality but got a good price on a sale day so took that in to consideration

Cheesymonster · 22/01/2017 07:39

I have a Bayswater from 2007 before the prices went up and I bought a preloved Alexa for my 40th (half price).

If I had the chance again, I'd buy a Balenciaga City.

WelshMoth · 22/01/2017 07:40

Honestly, I stand by my post - it's not judgement post - but go onto Etsy and search out handmade leather bags. You can filter the styles and colours you want. Some are bloody beautiful and priceyand I truly pine after the oversized totes.

That said, if you're after designer, I freely admit to knowing 'nowt. The most designer I get is owning a berghaus rucksack.

You shouldn't have had to explain yourself OP, but now that you have, my heart aches a bit for you. You don't deserve this And I wish things were different for you.

SallyGinnamon · 22/01/2017 07:48

Was going to be facetious till I read your update. I don't 'get' bags at all, nor jewellery. But if it floats your boat....

Just going to say if you do get a £1k+ handbag don't put it on the floor of an aeroplane just in case a baby is sick on it. Grin

sauronskitten · 22/01/2017 07:51

I'd get a Prada Esplanade bag for £1650: www.fashionette.co.uk/prada-esplanade-borsa-a-mano-saffiano-city-calf-tote-bag-nero

Do you want a good everyday use bag? Or just a special occasion nights out one?

If you want a tougher bag, you could consider ones in Saffiano leather, for example.

"The distinctive markings on this leather are a series of diagonal lines and cross-hatch designs that renders the leather very resistant to stains, scratches and is also water repellent" -- but it won't have the feel and smell of 'proper' leather.

Many bags are made of veau or Box Calf leather. While they're still durable, they need a certain amount of care.

"Box Calf is smooth with a glossy finish, and a structured hard leather that holds shape well. It can blister if it gets wet, so be cautious around water. Be careful with scratches to the leather..."

Once you've narrowed down your choice, suggest you look it up and find out what users say about it on:

forum.purseblog.com/

and also check out

Just realised the Prada I suggested is a bit higher than budget.

Fendi Petite 2Jours for £1320? www.fendi.com/gb/woman/bags/p-8BH253D7EF0QA1

There are a few other nice Fendi designs for under £1300: www.fendi.com/gb/woman/bags

Abbielove · 22/01/2017 08:02

Op I'm
In a similar boat although I'm still going ahead with treatment.

For my 40th last year and after a failed tx, I got the Mulberry Daria, it's my 4th Mulberry and I love it. Although I'd love a Chanel for obvious reasons!

PrincessNakedAsAJayBird · 22/01/2017 08:10

If you are on fb and would buy preloved there's fantastic mulberry page- all bags authenticated and you could then buy more than one! 😊

PrincessNakedAsAJayBird · 22/01/2017 08:11

It's called mulberry buy sell and swap- I have O cash to even think about it now, but when back at work going to quit my morning Costa and hopefully come christmas will have saved enough to buy one!

jimthecat · 22/01/2017 08:15

Flowers for you OP.

Doobigetta · 22/01/2017 08:17

Sorry to hear your news, OP. If I were you I'd spend some of your budget on a weekend in Florence, and look for a bag there. There are hundreds of stalls and little boutiques selling gorgeous leather bags. There are also all the big name designers if you want the label. Either way, you'd end up with the memory of a lovely weekend to associate your bag with.

CaptainBrickbeard · 22/01/2017 08:19

OP, I would do exactly the same as you in your position and I hope you enjoy your bag. I've browsed online and am quite drawn to some of the more unusual ones like the D&G anchor one, but I think for a classic which will last I would go for something like the Fendi petite 2jours as I love the colour. I am not at all knowledgable though as my most expensive handbag was a £70 fiorelli.

If you had c. £1,300 to spend on a bag...
Honeyandfizz · 22/01/2017 08:19

It always happens doesnt it?

Op I've got £1k to spend on a bag which one should I go for?

Posters How could you spend that on a bag? I would never do that! Go on holiday instead! Buy a Primark bag!

Ffs why post. WHY?!!! Confused

CaptainBrickbeard · 22/01/2017 08:22

Errr...and if anyone can recommend a cheap imitation of the fendi bag, I am all ears!

UserVoid · 22/01/2017 08:24

This a style and beauty thread not WWYD.Hmm

I'd buy a Chloe Faye. They look beautiful and i think they're quite timeless.

Enjoy your new bag!

TheoriginalLEM · 22/01/2017 08:24

£1300 is such a lot of money to me, i can't imagine ever having that sort of money to spend on a bag so it probably influences my thoughts.

If i were to buy that it would be because I'd had a windfall or saved like fuck so I'd be putting ALOT of thought into it as id want it to be something i LOVE. You might be loaded and it be the equivalent of me spending £100 so id think about it but not to headache proportions.

If its the latter then buy a mulbery, id love one although they don't smell as locely as they used to imo. I think mulberry are a bit common as in everyone wants one and a bit of a statius symbol.

With £1300 it would be a major investment and id spend a lot of time on it. I wouldn't want anything ahowy or badgy as in oooh look at my prada bag. Id want a veautiful bespoke bag made by in independent designer. I'd want it to ne unique and personal to me and it would need to smell of beautiful leather. Id want soft and tactile with a lovely lining. I'd also want it ribust enough to actually use. I'd probably want a fabric shoulder strap and leather handle. Id want to have met the person who made it. Would that be fesible at that price?

please excuse typos as my phone is being a twat.

catinbooots · 22/01/2017 08:27

Why, why, why do all these joy suckers come on these threads?? Why open a thread about designer handbags if you don't like bags???

Tossers.

OP you do not have to explain yourself and I'm so sorry about your IVF.

Enjoy your new bag Flowers

snowone · 22/01/2017 08:27

Hi OP - it's your money, spend it on whatever the hell you like! I just love MN for its judgemental idioticness!!!

I would LOVE to buy a brand new designer bag - I dream of the day I win the lottery! Wink I have a lovely pre-loved mulberry and for me it's mulberry all the way!!

Happy shopping Smile

FlouncingInAWinterWonderland · 22/01/2017 08:31

What's the purpose of the bag i.e. business, everyday, casual smart, nights out, one size fits all?

Do you have particular colours that you're drawn towards?

Its a special and potentially sentimental purchase have you thought about flying somewhere with a lovely range of designer shops and bag makers (I love Venice for bag shopping, but my Mulberys are outlet) making a real experience of it and give you an opportunity to dress up and show it off as soon as you buy.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/01/2017 08:31

Bicester have several designer outlets selling bags. It gets crowded so go go early or stay in the hotel near by and walk over.

It's really got fuck all to do with anyone else what people spend their money on.

Some have more disposable income, get over it.
