Sorry to hear your news Mrs W - and sympathy with not having her near enough to give face to face hug and sympathy. Hope she soon feels OK about it and can get on with deciding which of her offers to firm - nice position to be in to have 4 to choose from!

Link to the marvellous sounding cigarette pants??

Aw MrsW, rejection is hard, especially after hard work and a long wait. I know it will be fine in the end, but hope you can see her soon for upcheering hug and nice tea and cake or whatever!

I am hoping to see dd this weekend for upcheering purposes - not enjoying the weather forecasts....

Yes, MrsW - we too have experienced rejection...

My favourite saying at the time (and I may wheel it out again) is:

'There is More Than One Way to Skin a Cat'

As others have said, DS was a bit morose for about 24 hours, then got on with life. I think the second option he had will suit him better, anyway.

CointreauVersial · 11/01/2017 21:31

Well done to GiddyLad - at least one of your offspring chose the right university. Wink Sympathies to WobbleLass; the rejection will seem so insignificant in the fullness of time, but painful right now.

Herbs - well, helllooooo! I tracked you down online. Not on the Sidebar of Shame, at least, and looking very va-va-vroom in that dress.

Just back from Zumba, the first class of 2017. I got talking to a lady who is on the committee which runs the local village pageant (I recognised her from the village forum meeting last night). I might possibly have volunteered my services.....

BeachysSnowyWellieBoots · 11/01/2017 22:40

Well first day of mocks went ok. No meltdowns and tonight we've been doing Biology. Ds insists I sit and learn with him verbally, so I'm learning a lot at the moment Smile

Well done to all who have great uni offers and hope any disappointments pass quickly.

I'm very strangely joint achey at the moment, particularly my elbows bizarrely... is there a link to HRT, has anyone found? Will carry on and chat to doc in a couple of months when I'm back for my review.

BeachysSnowyWellieBoots · 11/01/2017 22:40

And Herbs.... nice boobs Grin

GiddyGiddyGoat · 11/01/2017 22:46

Do you take a supplement of omega 3 oils Beachy? i do so religiously now and it makes a real difference - I notice it if I miss a couple - my hands are stiff and a bit painful in the mornings. Worth a go?

Thanks to everyone for kind words re ds2.

Cremolafoam · 11/01/2017 23:14

CV, no better woman! Organiser Extraordinaire.

Beachy, I thought it was just wear and tear, rather than hrt. I feel constantly creaky too.

GGG jolly good news re son 2 ( two, II)Phew!. Agree re red dress. Herbs shame you couldn't have swiped it.Grin

Mrs W, that's blimmin tough. We were in similar position with dd at one point, and you are right that it is the rejection that stings. The fact she has four choices can only be good. Wherever your lovely dd ends up will be the right place and they will be lucky to have her.

Rose , pet, yes we are both ( dh et moi) under the weather with The Queen's Heavy Cold apparently. Bloody shocking flu actually. Dh has been shivering all day, and I would say is 10 days behind me in terms of infection.
I went on a weird shopping trip today, to get something to wear to the funeral. It was not an easy task as snow is forecast for tomorrow. I went to TkMaxx and scored a grey Phase Eight dress for a measly six squid 🐙. It was meant to be.

Morning all Grin. I have been for an early morning explore (with a friend of the friend I am staying with, who knows Historical Stuff) of an area which is profoundly useful/interesting and things are starting to slot into place. Am now dossing about before doing some background reading and off to another meeting this afternoon. It's all go...and productively so. Phew. Hurrah.

GGG, there's good evidence that omega oils help with the side-effects of arthritis, ie the achiness, so I must definitely try some (cracks knuckles).

MrsW, I achieved in the getting-into-oxford stakes...and then it was downhill all the way. So there you go. The age of 17 is possibly not the best one to reach one's intellectual peak!

IDismyname · 12/01/2017 04:38

Beachy I slug flaxseed oil on my morning yoghurt/berry/nuts combo for the omega3. Sometimes if I forget, it goes on my lunchtime soup.

And sometimes it goes on both!

The stuff I use tastes quite nice. I gather it goes off v quickly, so buy small bottles and keep in fridge. I get mine from Flax Farm. Can't do links on my iPad. Sorry.

It's less of a joint issue for me, but more of a high (good and bad) cholesterol problem.

Managed a whole evening without raised voices last night. DH has realised he is no longer Superman in the office, and has told various powers that he's not able to do it all. However we've been here before, so I expect a reprieve but not a long term solution.

I think I'm still going to go and see someone, but will wait until the January rush is over. Ho Hum.

Mrs W commiserations to DD - my friend's son is waiting to hear from Rudy's place today. I think they'd be mad not to take him. It's such a tough process.

Found you online Herbs. Dress looked fabulous and you have a flat stomachEnvy

bigTillyMint · 12/01/2017 08:27

Well done to GGG's DS and commiserations to MrsW's DD. Fingers crossed for those waiting today.

Has anyone got snow yet? NU?

Hooray for girlie Rudy..... nice to put that one to bed 🍾

Lalsy · 12/01/2017 09:05

Yaaaay! Well done her! You must be so pleased that's off the to do list.

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/01/2017 09:08

Oh hoorah, Rudy, what a relief. Good to get shot of that.

DD2's mock results were a bit mixed, but apart from the maths, no real disasters (very sensibly her school does them before Christmas, so they can relax a bit over the holiday).

Work is mad and continues to get madder in terms of both being busy and content.

bigTillyMint · 12/01/2017 10:12

Rudy, that's fantastic news - go Rudygirl Smile

Cremolafoam · 12/01/2017 10:45

Ach Rudy, well done ✅ to dd.

Cocoa, , very wise to wait, but I suspect dh is fooling nobody, except himself. Put yourself first if you can.

Mrs S, we are living in interesting times. Can only imagine that it's all kicking off at your pow.

Did we have a momentary troll?

BeachysSnowyWellieBoots · 12/01/2017 11:54

Sorry Blush that was my inner loan shark coming out not really

hattymattie · 12/01/2017 12:07

Quick in - Contratulations to Rudy's DD - and out again.

NUFC69 · 12/01/2017 12:20

Well done to Rudy's DD. BTM, we had a sprinkling of snow this morning; the kind that looks artificial.

Rose, pain mostly under control, thank you. Yesterday we went to IKEA so I could have a walk around: I need flat, dry surfaces, and somewhere where I can park and open the car doors so it fits the bill. Ikea is actually my idea of hell normally, but it is useful on occasions.

Auriga · 12/01/2017 12:27

Rudy, well done to DD.

MrsS, DD's mocks were also before Christmas. Didn't stop politics teacher from emailing them with work imperatives in the holidays, then rudely haranguing the ones who (sensibly in my view) didn't open the email till term started Angry

DSis1 has been in touch & admitted her drinking is out of control again & she's trying to cut down/stop. Has seen a "counsellor" & received odd advice. Trying to zip my lip & be a big sister.

She's meant to be coming here to keep DD company while we're away singing this w/e. I had a major wobble about whether to go, then talked it over with DD. She's eminently sensible & not anxious, so I think I will go. It's not as though DD would have to be responsible for DSis1 if she does drink, since DBIL will be here too. She has never knowingly seen DSis1 the worse for drink; suppose it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing if she did.

I think what impressed me most is that DD said she'd rather have company than be left at home alone & that she asked if she can do anything to help DSis1 Smile

Hard to look forward to the singing though.
