Smiling at IKEA as rehab centre NU. It will make a change from on the bed bridges. Hope things keep improving.

Rudy, TFFT. Must have been a teeth grinding wait.

Crem, thinking of you in your poor health with a poorly and bereaved DH, grim.

Herbs, how is DP managing?

DD1, still sitting at the table in pjs this morning.
WAF: 'Come on, get dressed, sieze the day.'
DD1: 'But I just siezed the night, and now I need a break.'

IDismyname · 12/01/2017 15:40

NU - did you escape without actually buying anything? That place is like Costco... I go in for the proverbial 'pint of milk' / 'bag of nightlights' and exit much, much poorer.

Hope the pain is at a better level. Bad pain is so draining...

WAF Grin at 'seized the night' - love it. I find I seize far too much of the night these days. It catches up with me about this time of day.

Rudy - have just done a Happy Dance in honour of your news.

Cremolafoam · 12/01/2017 16:28

I would very much like to seize the night right now. Snow swept crematoria and an afternoon with distant in laws, does not a fun day trip make. ''Twas doomy, far too brief ( no one spoke) and lasted about 15 excruciating minutes. Awful. Dh is tucked up in bed.may join him. Sad -—--

Double underline today ^

Crem, draw a line under today and go to bed.

and with that, I'm off too. Have had quite a productive day and am MUCH LESS sorry for myself, you'll be glad to hear.

Night-night!
x

Lalsy · 12/01/2017 17:03

Auriga, what a difficult situation - your dd sounds brimming with warmth and good sense.

Crem, how awful, duvet time definitely. You poor things Flowers.

NU, also enjoyed IKEA as rehab. I like going because it involves a tram ride (channelling Herbs' ds there).

Just got soaked coming back from one meeting and have another one to go and drip in. Pyjamas calling really quite loudly.

Twas just spam below.

Rosebag · 12/01/2017 17:14

crem I would think that bed is just the right place. I'm so sorry. Cosset yourselves. Shut out the world. xx

Rudy woo hoo for DD's maths result! Star Smile

MrsW I am sorry that the outcome of all that waiting wasn't what was wanted. I hope DD is philosophical about it all and sees she still has some great choices. Flowers

Auriga Good decision. DD sound like she is very mature and sensible.

I am anxiously waiting for the snow to arrive and in a quandary about whether to postpone my class. I have the horrors about someone falling down on my path and suing the pants off of us....

Tilly how is DS...is he home?

Auriga · 12/01/2017 17:30

Sorry it was so grim Crem Flowers

We have snow. Lighting a fire tonight.

bigTillyMint · 12/01/2017 17:34

Auriga, how lovely and grown-up of your DD.

Cremo, go to bed and pull the covers up Flowers

DS got discharged last night and we had a meeting to discuss the forward plan today. We have a good one, but it is more than possible that it won't work. We are going to give it a shot. Here's hoping!

hattymattie · 12/01/2017 17:48

Fingers crossed BTM. A plan is a good start.

Crem - sounds dismal - completely understand how you want to burrow away.

Mrs W - friend's son didn't get in either - just heard. I cannot understand it - he's brilliant.

NU - hope you're feeling a little better. I have to be dragged kicking and screaming to IKEA although I do like looking at their rooms and kitchens once I'm there. I usually end up spending at least £100 on stuff I didn't know I needed.

Have put courgette in the pasta sauce despite strict instructions from DS. Trouble is looming.

CointreauVersial · 12/01/2017 18:00

Fingers crossed, BTM.

Crem, hope you feel better tomorrow; what an awful day.

Auriga - a sure sign that DD is really becoming an adult. Not surprised you are proud of her.

Snowing heavily here - see pic! We were sent home at 4pm, so I hotfooted it up the hill with the DDs and it started snowing pretty much as soon as I got home. There are now huge tailbacks on the roads all around; DH has just phoned for navigational advice. I left DS behind, as he has work at 6pm - he was most put out that I wasn't prepared to drive him home then drop him back into Dorking again at 6pm - thank goodness I stood firm, as I'd be sitting in a queue of traffic right now. There remains the small matter of collecting him at 11pm...

Blackduck · 12/01/2017 18:12

BTM keeping everything crossed for you all and Patti DS

Blackduck · 12/01/2017 18:13

Particularly...

IDismyname · 12/01/2017 18:30

Oh Dear Crem - write the day off. So sorry it was that bad.

Take Brew or Wine to bed.

CointreauVersial · 12/01/2017 19:16

NDN appeared at the front door looking like The Abominable Snowman, having crashed his car in the snow about a mile away, and walked home, finding out once he got here that he'd left his front door keys in the car. I have just defrosted him with hot coffee. NDN's wife then turned up, having abandoned her car a mile in the other direction; luckily she had keys. DH is still out there somewhere, near Epsom Downs, and getting very pissed off. He's nearly within walking distance, so he'll turn up eventually.

addle · 12/01/2017 19:29

Blimey, cv, what rough weather. Hope trip to pick up ds ok. Just cold and rainy in this here Waterloo.

Bad luck fr dd, mrs w. Hope she's not too cast down.

Congrats Rudy dd! How great to get that out of the way (and btw also liked your contrib to the style rules thread which I find oddly soothing)

Crem that sounds utterly miserable. Hope you are tucked up in bed. Not a day it's worth continuing.

And nu god stuff re ikea and thanks fr c&b tecommendation. It looks lovely.

MrsWobble3 · 12/01/2017 19:39

Thanks for the sympathy re dd3. I am pretty chilled about it - it would have been nice but life is what you make it and about people and relationships not institutions and on that basis she is still the same special girl and will go where she is wanted and valued. And I think once she gets over the initial disappointment she will feel this too. Dh, on the other hand, is raging and behaving as if her life has been completely ruined because an oxbridge degree is the only one that counts. it's particularly silly since it doesn't seem to be an opinion he holds when doing grad interviews at work (thank goodness) and I think is more reflective of the fact that he's got a bad cold and is having a bad week at work and just got stood up by a friend he was supposed to be meeting for dinner. I'm sure he'll find his sense of perspective eventually.

Hope those of you with bad weather and/or health manage to get tucked up somewhere warm and dry for the evening.

bigTillyMint · 12/01/2017 20:19

Wow CV, there is none here - there were big wet snowflakes earlier but obviously didn't settle!

MrsW, it sounds like a good job your DD3 isn't at home if your DH is that upset!

Two friends' DS's have got offers for Rudy's neck of the woods - so pleased for them. And DD has decided to go to the Brum Open Day for her courseShock - going up with BFF's bf who has also got an unconditional offer for another course and has persuaded her to look!

Rosebag · 12/01/2017 21:57

Shock CV Very little snow here in Norf London, in the end.

MrsW disappointment is such a powerful emotion...it's the theme I want to explore in my next script, if I ever get to write it. I'm sure things will calm down. Hooray for Brum, Tilly. Nods of approval from this end!

As Face Bookers will know, DS is to be on the tele soon...he's just called me (they just finished recording...)....got to speak appaz Shock about TRUMP!!! Yikes!

BeachysSnowyWellieBoots · 12/01/2017 23:01

Was that him? I'm desperately spotting!

Lalsy · 12/01/2017 23:05

Aha, BTM, so the Brum open days have been announced have they? [narrows eyes as ds].

Hell's bells crepeys, I have just spent three hours in an icy room with icy feet and full bladder at a local Lab Party AGM. Voting so tight no one dared go to the loo. Comradely spirit only goes so far. I wanted to hit everyone. Am on sofa under two blankets in search of upcheering tv, possibly permanently.

Lalsy · 12/01/2017 23:05

Oooh Rose, maybe that will do it!

Auriga · 12/01/2017 23:23

Sorry about the setback MrsW. DD tells me that not a single person she knows got an offer from Oxford or Cambridge, which seems incredible, knowing some of the people she's talking about.

She got her fifth offer this evening - an unconditional from Birmingham, or ABB if she puts them second, which would also work. She is thrilled, I went out and bought cake to celebrate and by the time I got back she'd booked two offer-holders' open days. I'm convinced that taking the pressure off will help her to do better at A level & V pleased for her. And didn't have any of the cake 😁

Collymollypuff · 12/01/2017 23:26

I wondered if that was him, Rose! (Was it?)

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/01/2017 23:32

Ooh, Auriga, fab news for your DD!

DD1 appears to be doing some work at last. Cautious hoorah.

I am so tired and stressed at the moment, but seeing some old Israeli friends for dinner tomorrow night, which will be FAB.

Saw one of my old drinking buddies on the news tonight. He was voted the man all the women most wanted to shag at one place I worked. He still looked pretty hot, I thought.
