Do we have a 2017 'princessing' thread?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/01/2017 14:26

Last year I joined a lovely long running thread which really motivated me to take a bit more care of myself and massively boosted my self esteem. I ended up quitting sugar and losing 2 stone.

Would anyone like a similar type thread, or is there currently one running?

My goals for January are:
No drinking in the week
8 glasses of water
Cut out the sugar and half the carbs (BSD)
Give my lumea one last chance before I give up on it and Ebay it
Get a skincare routine going (starting with removing makeup everyday!)
Get myself a footner online and do my trotters
Sort out my eyebrows (currently look like two sleeping cocker spaniels on my face)

Anyone with me?

Just logging my progress. I've done really well with my eating and no alcohol but I still haven't even come close to drinking enough water. I'm going to buy some big evians to take to work with me next week.

I did my footner on Monday night but no progress so far. I've Googled it and it seems it should start to work around now. Anyone got any experience of this? I'm currently soaking my feet in hot water.

Karlakitten1 · 12/01/2017 19:57

Place marking - and I also would like to do something about my eyebrows (like squirrels on my face!), my grey hair (feel like a badger) and my skanky dry trotters!! I sound so appealing! Anyone got any tips for doing nice eyebrows?? Thinking of using pencil or the soap and glory archery thing, anyone know if it's any good?

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 12/01/2017 20:03

After one of these thread on the main board last year, I started to dye my hair properly which sorted out the greys which was a revelation. I also started to make much more effort to moisturizer regularly, I had neglected that for years. I made far more effort generally and feel better for it - got eyebrows done by proper eyebrow expert. Now I just need to achieve the small task of shedding 4 stone.

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 12/01/2017 20:05

x post Karla.

You need to find someone who is a specialist in eye brows. They are not expensive, my first session was £15 but I mean some one who literally scrutinizes your brow - ie not just slap wax on them.
For my greys - root touch up was a miracle, £5 per box, sometimes cheaper, takes ten mins, and so easy.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/01/2017 00:42

I bought myself some PixiGlow last week (Yes, I know I'm on Low-Spend 2017, but it was £10 , they have a huge bottle on QVC , but I wanted to see if I liked it before investing).
So.. its nice, I use it in the morning then moisturise, love the smell, but its brought out some unwelcome spots.

Still drinking water (lots) , I don't drink alcohol anyway but my coffee cup would need to be prised from my cold dead hands !

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 13/01/2017 19:40

I bought a clay face mask by soap and glory today. It's self heating and exfoliating and is meant to declog your pores - I'm really impressed with it. Thought I'd share!

MaQueen · 13/01/2017 21:17

I'm already quite princessy to be honest...but I do want to lose some weight and tone up a little bit. I'm 5ft 7", so quite tall- but I'm nearing 12 stone which is definitely my upper, upper weight limit before I start to look a bit plump and frumpy.

So, I am drinking lots more water.
Cutting right down on bread, pasta, cereal, refined sugars and pastry [sobs].
Taking a good multi vitamin every day.
Eating lots more fruit/salad.

I also want to liven up my look a little bit - feel I've got into a rut these last 5 years - so want to start following some good fashion blogs for middle aged laydees Smile

Haven't RTWT. I definitely want to do this! I make no effort with myself. I eat well and I'm currently shifting baby weight (3mo) but need to actually take some pride in my appearance. I want to:

  • walk 8000 steps a day (Fitbit for Christmas) then up it to 10000 in Feb and take it from there. I have an ebf 3mo baby so can't leave her. Plus I have a 3yo in preschool and there isn't a single "bring baby" gym class that I can get to within that window of time. Walking it is!
  • Sort my hair out. I never go to the hairdressers as it isn't easy with the DC so I've been box dying and it looks and feels crap. Might look into a mobile hairdresser to come in the evening when DH can watch DC.
  • I stopped wearing make up a while back. I have no idea how to use it. There are so many products now. Teenagers have better make up skills than me. It's all contouring and brows now but I just want to look like me (but a less tired version). Might pop to boots and start with a base.
  • Continue losing weight. I have 1.5st to go. I signed up for SW in Nov so will push on with that.
  • Fix my scabby hands and feet. Again, no idea how! There are so many products. Might even start using nail varnish.
  • Definitely getting my teeth whitened. I have a dentist apt next month so will look into afterwards.
  • Spend more money on myself! We have the money but I'm a saver and I find it hard to justify money on myself "in case we need it"
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/01/2017 17:41

I finally treated myself to some Shu Uemura eyelash curlers , I used my scabby old Bodyshop ones and a couple of layers of mascara (I don't wear make-up day to day) and I was pretty Smile at the result.
I'd been thinking about the SU for a while so, went for it.

Still on LowSpend (but these are a long term investment)

Need a haircut soon, next week hopefully.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/01/2017 17:52

Potato I'm not s big makeup wearer either but after reading in a similar thread I bought a CC cream, which I use instead of foundation. It just seems to blend my skin so it looks well cared for rather than a layer of makeup. I use that every day with a swirl of blusher and a neutral lip gloss. People used to comment how I looked fresh and had nice skin, and I feel nice wearing it rather than feeling all 'made up'. When I wear foundation I can feel it like a mask on my face. This is really light and more like moisturiser.

Thanks averagebear that's really helpful! I'm going to pick one up this week Smile I've never heard of a CC cream before but just read about it there and it is exactly what I'm looking for.

Broccolirevolution · 14/01/2017 20:07

Scarftown keep us updated please. I did mine on Tuesday and now they look a bit peely but I'm not getting the results I've seen online.
I'd love to hear your progress.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 14/01/2017 20:25

For feet I like the scalpel boots sells for cutting off corns and hard skin!

MaQueen · 14/01/2017 20:33

I'm feeling very sleek and groomed today. Had an OPI pedicure and full leg + brazillian wax earlier (ouch). I've also drank 4 pints of water, too and avoided sugar all day.

Now sitting rubbing cuticle oil into my nails and browsing Midlife Chic blog for ideas (excellent).

ilovetocook · 15/01/2017 14:41

I bought some Erborian cc high definition cream to try. I'm very pale and most light creams are way to dark. Its certainly the best I've found and you only need tiny amounts. Tried it yesterday for first time. I've also decided to go back to blonde after being bright red since last summer.

Checkedstripes · 15/01/2017 15:56

I've been and bought yes I know it's low spend 2017 but I needed it some new skincare goodies from Superdrug's own ranges. I've used them before and listening to Sali Hughes recommend them t'other day reminded me. I've got the hot cloth cleanser, overnight peel (liquid gold unfortunately made me spotty so hoping this doesn't) and a vitamin e serum. And all on offer. So I haven't been too bad Grin Doing my nails tonight - essie in 'kimono over' i think!

I also fell off the diet wagon - I blame Ofsted frankly - so back on it this week. Fingers crossed!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/01/2017 20:34

I've not been very princessy this weekend- been grafting hard all day yesterday, removing fitted units in a bedroom, and today painting, so my hands are dry and sore! My footner hasn't started yet but it's 3 days since I did it so expected to peel soon. I have also found the wax strips I bought for my hot waxer so I will be doing my eyebrows tomorrow when I get a spare half hour. Diet went well all week but not so well this weekend, so will probably maintain this week.

Must try harder this week. It's a sorry state of affairs that I have spent longer this weekend cleaning the cat litter trays than I have spent taking care of myself.

I painted my nails today. Clear so nothing too exciting but it's a step in the right direction. I have now lost the 3lbs I put on over Christmas so I'm happy about that plus I clocked up 11,000 steps today. Still need to get to a shop for my CC cream. I have also bought "Snow Fire" for my chapped, bleeding hands after a friend recommended it so hopefully I'll be less scabby in a few days.

StorminaBcup · 16/01/2017 00:00

I have had a grumpy teething baby stuck to me this weekend so I've only managed to do a quick face mask (still an improvement on lady years efforts). I've also walked lots (in an attempt to get grumpy baby to sleep) so not all bad if you ignore the wine and chocolate

My footner arrived on Thursday but I need to figure out timings so I'm not mid-peel for my swimming lesson.

I can already see my skin improving from drinking more water and having a better cleansing routine. dropped another two pounds from last week so 7lbs off since start of Jan which is good.

I took my measurements and I've lost 2 inches off waist, 4 inches off stomach, 2 inches off hips and stayed the same on thighs so overall I am very pleased with those results.

Definitely sticking with this princessing lark 👸🏻

LittleOyster · 16/01/2017 18:29

Updating for the first time in a few days. I'm managing to stay away from the dairy, grains, sugar and alcohol and my weight is gradually creeping down. Have fallen asleep in my makeup a couple of times, but nonetheless my skin is looking quite good at the moment - even got a compliment on it today! Hair is looking better too (I think) - have been persisting with silicone/SLS free products. Have also been doing various other princessy bits, like scrubbing my feet, removing hair, face mask, etc.

crombanna · 17/01/2017 06:01

Well done everyone, sounds like we are all more or less sticking to the princess plan.

I have been doing my 3 step Aesop routine at night and wearing my day SPF moisturiser in the morning for a week now, and done 1 face mask - wow what a difference. Skin definitely more glowy, and SOFT. I woke up this morning and lay there is the dark stroking my face for a few minutes. That's normal I take it?

I have also added body moisturiser to my regime for the first time in maaaaybe 15 years. Just a Nivea cocoa butter thing (cheapest thing I could pick up in the pharmacy) but wow it makes me feel grown-up and princess-y. Until now I've always put body moisturiser in a category of "things Italian and French women do" but I am quite taken with it...so far.

Water - at least 1.8-2L a day, doing well with no sugar during the week and tons of fruit and veg every day. No booze and fags due to the fetus so really no excuse to not look my best!

I've also recently fallen down the rabbit hole of Asian Beauty. Going to check bank balance now and see if I can justify a small splurge.
