Oh thank God you said boys cod, not girls otherwise I would have thought you must have seen my dd out and about this weekend. She insisted on wearing some trousers that were a good 2 inches too short, even though I told her she looked stupid in them.

My pet hate though is not trousers that are too short (give us poor parents a break: some of us can't afford to rush out and buy new stuff the minute the old stuff is too short) but trousers that are too long, as in hanging so low, they catch on the heel of the wearer and the hems become frayed. That seems to be the fashion round here amongst otherwise immaculately turned out teenage girls. What is that all about?

Yes belts would be a godsend if I knew where to get them. Where do you find belts for boys?

Beetrootccio · 19/02/2007 11:33

yup 'tis the fashion!

Well i t was - not anymore really!

I think my kids must grow slower than others becaasue they never grow out of things overnight - I always know a few months ahead - so can plan finacially

Marina · 19/02/2007 11:34

You know jan, with those really wide flappy trousers...nothing against the dancing etc

yaddayah · 19/02/2007 11:36

errrr what is so bad about spiderman tops ????

I actually think they are rather charmingly retro

yaddayah · 19/02/2007 11:39

oh gawd, my ds (5) has a spiderman belt from next

yaddah watches her style points plummet....wheeeeeeeee

DumbledoresGirl · 19/02/2007 11:41

I think the trouble with me is I don't actually look at my children that much, so when I do, I am often surprised to find that they have grown so much their trousers are up to their shins.

filthymindedvixen · 19/02/2007 11:41

yes, I keep buying blets but dsses keep using them as catapults/boobytraps/I know not what. Plus, he is so thin, and trouser waists so big, he ends up with whole bunching like a full skirt thing going on under his jumper. Not comfy or cool.

I mean, I not saying I deliberatly let him wear shorty saddo trews, just that it ain't always so easy....
you and your perfectly proportioned offspring. Gah.

DumbledoresGirl · 19/02/2007 11:43

Little tip: M&S and sometimes Gap do trousers with adjustable waists, though, if your son is anything like my ds1, you do have to spend most of your time retrieving the elastic from the waistband with a safety pin.

feedmenow · 19/02/2007 11:44

Just thought I'd pop in and say that my ds, 5, INSISTS on wearing trousers that are too short. Something I find mighty embarassing when we go out!!

northerner · 19/02/2007 11:45

Buy tehm long to satrt with, thus avoiding the half mast look, which I agree with Cod is a sure fire way to victimisation......unfortunatley

But do teh half mast kids go on to be half mast teenagers and adults because they never knew any thing other than half mastedness I wonder?

Beacuse, you do see grown men in half masts don't you?

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 19/02/2007 11:47

Ha.. wait til they hit the puberty growth spurt, and trousers that were long on Friday are ankle swingers by Monday!! I made the mistake of shrieking in alarm at the way DS's trousers had shot up his legs when he sat down next to me on sofa this morning.. and he promptly took them off!! Once they are 14 there's no period of grace while you wait for pay day to buy more.. they just won't wear them if they know they look a bit geeky.

Unless they revel in being geeky of course. That is a genuine style preferred by some. Bless.

Beetrootccio · 19/02/2007 11:53

I also buy in Sales so already have stuff for the summer

northerner · 19/02/2007 11:56

Never trust a man in half mast trews with white socks and 'brogues'........

NuttyMuffins · 19/02/2007 11:57

I always feel so sorry for kids with trousers like that. There are a couple of boys at the dd's school with trousers like it and tbh it pisses me off as the father is a doctor at the local hospital and they have fancy cars etc, but can't buy their boyis trousers that fit.

LIZS · 19/02/2007 12:01

cos I'm living in (the vain) hope that m and s will one day have adjustable waist school trousers in the right size in stock ! After Easter they wear shorts anyway .

Twiglett · 19/02/2007 12:03

god do you honestly not have anything better to worry about than fashion on a small boy

does it really matter?

Aufish · 19/02/2007 12:09

We can't all be perfect like you Cod, I have two boys who do have very small waists and their trousers are either too big around the waist or too short. At the end of the day, I don't keep a constant eye on their trousers, got more important things to do rather than that.

Gobbledigook · 19/02/2007 12:10

Ha ha!! LOL at this thread!

Actually, ds1 is growing so rapidly at the moment I keep buying new jeans and school trousers only to find they are half mast a couple of months later! Roll on summer so he can wear shorts

DP has a pair of trousers (He calls them his Adrian Moles) like this.

I forbid him to waer them. I have even managed o get them into charity bags etc but they always find their way back into his wardrobe.

He's 32 ffs. Youd think by now he'd have learnt how long his legs are!
