my 14 year old grows so quickly but i would starve rather than let him go out in too short blazer and trousers...

Marina · 19/02/2007 11:19

I am glad my ds is not the only one whose legs sometimes seemingly grow three inches overnight moo
And out of sheer curiosity when sizing up some new trousers in John Lewis before Xmas I checked Age Seven and Age Eight. On two different pairs there was seven inches difference in length
So it's either Michael Jackson or Don Estelle for us

But sometimes kids grow so fast you barely notice that their trousers have become a bit ankle-showing. Ds1 has just done this and because he wears long shorts to school, I hadn't noticed that several of his other pairs were a bit short, plus he's v attached to a certain pair of jeans and wants to wear them all the time, whether they fit or not. Now that you have shamed me, I will go and take them down so they will touch his shoes again.

Twinkie1 · 19/02/2007 11:19

Never let him wear anything other than plain GAP socks too - I hate patterned socks on girls or boys - much to DDs disgust as she would love to have just one pair of shite sparkly barbie socks!!

ledodgy · 19/02/2007 11:19

Lol Marina!

OttergavebirthonValentines · 19/02/2007 11:20

The biy in question at our primary - well- his brother wears calf length grey marl jogging bottoms
I think cos they are bright their mum thinks thats all that matters....sadly...

Marina · 19/02/2007 11:20

And he is a spindleshanks too Hatwoman. Nearly eight, still in age six trousers from JLP and has only just outgrown a humungous age FOUR pair of Ladybird combats

If I put ds in age-correct trousers I have to hem them so high he looks like one of Wigan's Chosen Bloody Few

JanH · 19/02/2007 11:22

The answer is elastic. DS2 is still wearing the age 12 elastic-backed M&S grey school he started school in 2½ years ago - he just pulls them lower and lower and luckily nobody does crotch inspections.

(I bought him age 14 ones in August but they have no elastic and "everybody wears black" - I must get around to exchanging them before they change the labels!)

Wilbur · 19/02/2007 11:22

Oh yes, hatwoman - we have the skinny boy problem. Ds1 does have some trousers that are age 6/7 and they just fall off him and the last time I made him wear a belt he took it off and made a Heath-Robinson rope bridge for his pirates with it.

Twinkie1 · 19/02/2007 11:22

Even at five I think this could seriously affect him for the rest of his life - I mean imagine looking back at those old photos and seeing hs spiderman socks peeking out from under his trousers!! It would be mortifying!!

Marina · 19/02/2007 11:23

Crotch inspections on teenage boys, forsooth Janh! Never did I feel more potentially sorry for a teacher...

Beetrootccio · 19/02/2007 11:23

I always notice if the trousers are getting too small before they do - and then they get passed down. DS3 has loads of trousers in waiting.

JanH · 19/02/2007 11:23

(Still wearing same blazer too, but that was down to his knees when he started so it just fits now )

OttergavebirthonValentines · 19/02/2007 11:24

I just think that GIRLS would not be subject to the same humiliation
Mums dress up their girlies but are happy for their boys to wear nylon character clothing

Marina · 19/02/2007 11:24

I had to take in/up ds' blazer on every single front, Janh - he looked like Dandini at one point

Lullabyloo · 19/02/2007 11:24

my boss used to wear ankle swingers.....terribly stylish in every other way.....but those dang darn trousers

JanH · 19/02/2007 11:25

Wigan's Chosen Bloody Few, Marina?????

Lullabyloo · 19/02/2007 11:25

shudder......at character clothing...

JanH · 19/02/2007 11:26

Boys' clothes are much more entertaining than girls'

Beetrootccio · 19/02/2007 11:27

Blazers they can wear until they drop as far as I am concerned.

Actually (and this is going to sound poncey) my choristers have to wear Marlborough suits - grey stripy trousers and black blazers. DS1's trousers now have no hem and he still has to wear them for another year of so AND I am to buying him a new pair - it amuses me that they are ridiculously short -

filthymindedvixen · 19/02/2007 11:28

skinny boy excuse here too. He's 9 and age 7-8 fit him round waist. Age 8-9 do not even touch his hips on the way up...
AND he's too bloody dreamy to notice he's wearing his younger brother's jeans half the time.(sheesh)
